Chapter 105

I took my car keys and headed out.

I was taking Rabiya out for brunch today, and I wanted to talk to her about Kaia. She had good news for me.

When I raised my head, I saw Lucien standing there with a little grin on his annoying face.

“Where are you heading to, wifey?” He asked, stopping in front of me.

“It’s none of your goddamn business, Lucien”, I barked, irritated by him. “Mind your business, and I’ll mind mine. Don’t try to get in my way”

Being married to him has drained my life force. I thought we had an understanding, but it turns out he truly wants to play the married couple.

“Shall I give you a ride?” Lucien asked, and I rolled my eyes. “I don’t want you stressing yourself out, wifey”

“I have my own car, did you forget?” I raised the keys in his face. “I can handle my own affairs. I don’t need you to do things for me, and stop trying to act like my husband”

“Why not? I’m your husband, your mate, let’s not act like cats and dogs.” Lucien walked close to me, and I felt my core twitch.

My stupid body was reacting to something I didn’t understand.

But I won’t lie, Lucien looks very handsome when he’s serious.

“We had an agreement. This marriage is nothing but a contract we both agreed to,” I said, trying to jog his memory. “We both know what we wanted, let’s not derail from the main reason why we got married”

Lucien closed the distance between us before I knew it. His finger rested on my lips, stopping me from continuing to yell at

him.

“Shhh! Keep your voice down,” Lucien looked around, afraid someone might hear us. “We don’t want people knowing we are not a real couple, do we?”

“I don’t care if they know or not. I want you to stay within your limit,” I retorted, and rolled my eyes at him with disgust. “I’m leaving, don’t try to follow me”

“Drive safely, wifey. I love your pretty legs, I don’t want them marred”

I didn’t reply to him; I briskly walked away.

He was doing too much, but it’s cute that he cares that much about me, even when I told him to stay away.

Maybe we should sit down and chat over a cup of hot chocolate about our next course of action.

I got in my car and drove down to the cafe in town.

By the time I got there, Rabiya was sitting at the window seat, waiting for me.

She waved excitedly when she saw me, and I walked over to her. We hugged and exchanged pleasantries.

“How are you and your husband doing?” Rabiya asked, placing her order. “Still fighting like always?”

“Husband?” I snorted. “Stop calling him that, it sounds so strange”

“Well, he’s your husband. Denying it won’t change the truth” Rabiya winked at me and laughed.

“Still, I’d prefer if you call him Lucien instead,” I muttered, nodding at the waiter who served our order. “It’s better that way”

“Lucien, it is then,” Rabiya said, teasing me, I know it. “You don’t like him very much, do you?” She asked me, and I shifted.

She knows how I feel about him. The only reason I married him was because of Theo, nothing more.

“You know how I feel about him. Why are you still asking questions?”

“Too bad, Lucien is quite hot” Rabiya bit her lips, thinking about him.

I rolled my eyes. He’s not that hot. Rabiya’s taste in men keeps getting worse every time I see her.

“Quit exaggerating it, he’s not that hot for you to drool over him like that” I said, for some reason, I raised my voice.

“But he is!” Rabiya argued, I realised she’s a lost case. “You don’t like him. Can I have him instead?” She asked.

Everything blurred in front of my face. I wasnt expecting her to be that audacious and shameless.

“What? Are you crazy, Rabiya?” I exclaimed. “He’s my husband, how can you have him?” I said before I realised it.

“But you just said now that you have no feelings for him. You only have eyes for Theo, why let such a hot man waste when he can share a steamy night with me instead?” Rabiya nudged me, smiling like she said something funny.

I didn’t find it funny, so I didn’t laugh along with her.

“I dont control Lucien, he has a mind of his own. You can flirt with him and see if he has anything to offer you,” I suggested. “It’s not my business”

“You are getting a little too serious, aren’t you?” Rabiya asked, and I realised I wasn’t playing anymore. “I was only pulling your legs, but you seem to have taken it seriously. But thanks for the offer, I might take it”

“Don’t you have a boyfriend, Rabiya? The one you told me about?” I asked, and she frowned..

“That idiot cheated on me after everything we’ve been through together” Rabiya’s face turned red, and I could feel her rage burning. “The bastard had the guts to sleep around with another woman in my apartment. I kicked his ass out, now, I’m back to being single”

“Oh, that’s bad. I’m so sorry that happened to you,” I patted her back. “Your coffee, it’s getting cold”

We picked our coffee and drank in silence. I wanted to ask about Kaia, but I was afraid she wasn’t in the right frame of mind to talk yet.

“You know, I’ve been cracking my brains, but I still couldn’t get my head on where I saw Kaia before”, Rabiya said, dropping her coffee. “I think I’m missing something, but don’t worry, I will ask my brother when I get to Silvermoon in a day or two”

“Why don’t you give him a call and ask right away?” I asked.

“Because my brother doesn’t know I’m back in the country, I want to give him a surprise. It will get ruined if he sees the place I’m calling from,” Raabiya explained, and I nodded, agreeing.

I’m desperate for answers, but I can’t ignore common courtesy. Rabiya has done a lot for me; I shouldn’t repay her with disregard.

“Oh, true, sorry I wasn’t thinking straight,” I apologised, and Rabiya nodded.

“It’s okay.” Rabiya casually replied. “You know, my brother and his mate are having a pup, I’m going to become an aunty. Can you believe it?”

My eyes widened in excitement for her.

“Really? Congratulations, friend!” I said, and stood up to hug her.

She looked genuinely happy, and I was glad there was something to take her mind off the horrible betrayal she endured at the hands of her cheating boyfriend.

I would have whacked the bastard if I saw him right now.

“I can’t wait to become a godmother when you have your own kids,” Rabiya commented, and I rolled my eyes.

“You are unfortunately going to wait forever. Getting Theo back is not as easy as you think,” I said, feeling pitiful for myself..

I didn’t expect Theo to move on from everything we had.

I had my reasons for leaving him back then. I thought when I came back, we could mend things, and I would tell him why I went in the first place.

Then Kaia happened, and he totally forgot about me.

That stray girl bewitched him and won’t let go.

“Are you really going to wait around for him? I mean Theo?” Rabiya asked, jogging me out of my own thoughts. “I mean, what he and Kaia have seems to be strong. He’s not letting her go anytime soon unless she leaves on her own accord, and I don’t see that happening”

“Why don’t you give Lucien a chance? That guy is head over heels for you,” she said, and I chuckled.

“You know that’s not true, Rabiya,” I said. “Lucien has no feelings for me. He only agreed to mate with me because I’m Theo’s ex-girlfriend and wanted to prove a point”

“I don’t believe this!” Rabiya exclaimed, and the coffee almost poured away. “Here I was thinking I was the dumbest person in the room, turns out you’re dumber than me. You can take the crown, I won’t argue with you”

I shook my head. I was confused for a moment.

“What are you talking about?” I asked.

“I’m saying Lucien has no reason to marry you because you were Theo’s ex-girlfriend. The guy is in love with you, you just refused to see it”. She explained, and I was frowning through it.

“Good then, he should keep it very far away from me,” I said. “He’s not the reason I’m here. I don’t want to get distracted by meaningless things”

“But Lara-”

I raised a finger, stopping her from going on and on about Lucien.

I wondered if Lucien somehow bribed my friend to get into my head and ruin my plans to get Theo back.

Whatever it was, I’m not letting them distract me from my goals.

“I will drop you off at your hotel since you refused to stay in the packhouse with me for a few more days”, I said, after we cleared our bills and headed out.

“I was just bored out of my mind, sitting in my room all day. The hotel is more fun,there is a lot to do there”

She was right. If I wasn’t married into the family, I wouldn’t have stayed there either.

The place was too boring for what I was used to. Adventures. Fun and risk-taking were my things, but now I was stuck arguing with an angry old lady whenever we met.

“It’s alright. Let’s go”

I dropped Rabiya to her hotel and returned home. I was too tired, I needed to rest in my room.

In my sleep, I perceived a good smelling meal and opened my eyes to see Lucien carrying a board filled with food.

“Wifey,wake up, I brought you your meal,” he leaned close trying to wake me. “You didn’t eat lunch and it’s dinner time now”

I jotted up and my lips accidentally collided with Lucien’s lips, planting an unintentional kiss on his lips.

I was too embarrassed to say anything but Lucien acted as if nothing happened, he brought the board to me and fed me my meal.

“You seem a little tired, wifey, eat and showe after this. Then, go back to bed” he said and I nodded.

My body was in pain and I couldn’t argue.

Lucien was acting gentle and mature with me, I thought he was a completely different person.

“Good night,Elara” he drew the blanket over me and left.

I peeked out to see him working on his laptop. He looked like a powerful alpha, working on his laptop.

I muttered back, softly even though he couldn’t hear me anymore.

“Good night.”
