Chapter 106
Chapter 106
When I opened my eyes in the middle of the night, I was burning hot; my skin was on fire.
My nose was running, and I couldn’t breathe at all.
I felt like my insides were on fire, and I was going to die from it.

I looked around, struggling to sit, but I couldn’t. I noticed Lucien wasn’t in the room, and I felt forsaken when I needed him. the most.
I had a splitting headache, which made it hard for me to function for myself.
Just then, I thought I was going to die here alone and miserable, unattended, when the door creaked open, and Lucien walked in.
It was dark, but I could see him through my wolf’s eyes.
“Wh-where did you go? Leaving me all alone in this room?” I asked, tears streaming down my face.
I was extra sensitive for some weird reason, but I couldn’t help myself. I cried.
“Hey! Hey!” Lucien gently walked over, holding a bowl. “Im sorry I didn’t mean to leave you alone, I went to get something for your fever”
He looked genuinely worried about me, and here I was accusing him of abandonment.
“Sleep still, I need to make your fever subside, we can’t get through to Maggie at this hour” Lucidn made me lie down and placed a pillow under my head.
At this time, I was shivering, and my lips were shaking violently.
Lucien placed a cloth on my head and tried to get my fever down, but it wouldn’t work.
Meanwhile, my eyes kept drooping in and out of slumber, and I felt myself losing grip on myself.
After trying and failing to get my fever down, Lucien was frustrated and attempted to call the clinic.
Nobody was there, or rather, nobody was willing to come down to the packhouse this late.
“Do you mind if I get Kaia?” Lucien asked me; I know he thought deeply about it before asking. “I can’t watch you like this anymore”
“It-it’s okay,” I stuttered, and nodded, assuring him that it was okay.
In a flash, Lucien left the room and returned with Kaia before I knew it.
He must have woken them up as Kaia came with Theo, who stood at the entrance.
“Does your head feel light?” Kaia asked me as she got to work. “I see you have the flu too”
I nodded, and she kept talking to me, probably trying to keep me awake. It must be a trick all doctors and healers use, but it’s
worked.
“How long has she been feeling this way?” Kaia asked, directed at Lucien.
Lucien locked eyes with me.

“I dont know,” he muttered. “She seemed very tired when she came back from brunch in the afternoon. I didnt notice anything odd then, but as I was getting in bed, I saw her burning up”
“It’s okay,” she said, and hit my wrists thrice. It wasn’t painful; I felt numb instead. “This happens a lot due to stress”
Lucien looked visibly shaken, but he pretended to be strong to avoid stressing me out.
Kais touched my forehead and palms and checked my nails.
After a while, she turned to us.
“I have done a few tests on her, but in the morning, we will get her down to the clinic for a proper diagnosis,” Kaia instructed, standing up. “I will be right back. Give me a few minutes”
She left my side and walked out. Theo walked away with her.
I see, he doesn’t want to stay away from her, even for a few minutes.
He didnt even look at me once, knowing I was dick.
This is not the Theo I once knew; the Theo I knew would be restless when I got sick.
He would panic and take me down to the clinic without question. He would never compromise my health for anything.
And here he was, he didnt bat an eye at me.
When they left, Lucien sat with me. He took my feverish hand and gently tapped it.
“You are going to be fine, Wifey,” he said. “This is nothing to you, you are strong and weird, you won’t stay down for long”
I feigned a smile as my whole face hurt when I tried to laugh at his silly jokes.
He was trying to stay strong for my sake, but I know he was broken. He’s a weird man; I can never understand him.
Ten minutes later, Kaia returned. She was holding a bowl of green liquid.
“This is going to help your fever, please drink up”, Kaia offered it to me. I cringed when I saw it.
It was thick, green and weird-looking. I felt like throwing up just looking at it
I wanted to refuse it, afraid Kaia was trying to poison me. Because who offers a sick person this weird-looking green drink?
Lucien took it from her, probably reading my mind.
“Here, wifey,” Lucien said and brought it closer to my face. “It’s not that bad, just close your eyes and think of your favourite place. It will be over before you know it”
He shook his head while assuring me. I was forced to believe him.
He helped me sit, aided by two pillows and gave me the drink.
I closed my eyes and did as he said, and before I knew it, the glass was empty.
“Good girl!” Lucien praised. “I told you, you can do it. See!”
I smiled a little, seeing his excited face.
“Get some rest, Elara”, Kaia said, “You’ll feel better when you wake up in the morning. And dont forget to check yourself at
the clinic later”

I nodded, and Kaia turned to leave.
Lucien patted my shoulder and stood up to see her to the door.
“Thank you, Kaia,” I heard Lucien say. “For coming to see Elara”
“It’s nothing, look after her. She still needs a lot of care,” she advised and left.
Lucien returned to the bed.

“You heard what she said, right?” he asked while helping me lie on my back. “You need to rest, I’m not letting you out of my sight unless it’s to pee and even at that, I will come with you to pee”
I wanted to call him crazy, but I didnt have the strength to do so. I just glared sternly at him, and he got the message.
“I dont mind being crazy as long as I get to keep you safe from harm”, Lucien said, and I shook my head.
Maybe it was the medicine or something else, but I fell asleep soon after.
I was still feeling feverish and cold. Lucken drew the blanket over me and got in bed as well.
I didn’t know how long I slept, but when I woke up again, it was bright outside, and Lucien’was lying as my human wall while I rested my head on his chest.
I must have rolled over in my sleep, making him uncomfortable all night.
“You are awake, wifey,” I hear him say, and I jolted. I thought he was sleeping. “Were you checking me out? Admit it, I’m hot without a shirt on, right?”
I slapped his chest, and he pretended to wince in pain.
“In your head, Lucien, who says you are hot?” I asked..
By now, I wasn’t cold or feverish anymore. Kaia’s concoction must have worked, as I felt strength return to my body and tiredness fade.
“I just know I’m hot, everyone I know, except you, of course, says I’m hot”, Lucien said while getting up from bed.
“It was probably to boost your ego, Lucien”, I reasoned. “A bit sorry to burst your bubble, but you are not hot, maybe average at best”
“Ouch,” Lucien held his chest. “That hurts, but I will take it coming from you”
I rolled my eyes at him. He doesn’t get mad easily around me. If I hadn’t seen him fight with Theo, I would have thought he never gets angry, but that’s not the case.
“I thought you were still asleep,” I said, trying to change the topic.
“I couldn’t sleep all through the night, and I couldn’t leave as well since you practically held me hostage” Lucien leaned in and winked at me. “But I’m not complaining”
“You’re crazy!” I muttered.
“What would you like to eat? I will ask the attendants to make something for you, or I can make it myself if you want,” Lucien offered, and I thought the offer was juicy.
It was a chance for me to make his life as hard as possible. I might not get this chance again after I recover.
“I want you to make me carrot pie and cheese-coated toppings”, I said.

“As you wish, my lady.” Lucien said. “Please take a shower while I make your breakfast”

“I can do that, go make breakfast,” I said and walked into the bathroom before he had a chance to say anything.
I felt a little weak; my leg was jittery while I stood to take my bath.
I had no idea why I suddenly got sick. Hopefully, I recover soon, I can’t afford to stay sick for too long.
I finished getting dressed after taking a shower when the door opened, and Lucien walked in, carrying a board.
“I figure you wouldn’t be able to go down for breakfast, so I brought you breakfast in bed as a good husband would”, he announced and set the board down.
Then went to open the window properly to let in some air.
I combed my hair while staring at his sculpted back. He has tattoos just like Theo’s, but his are brighter and bolder.
“Come on, wifey, let me feed you” Lucien walked up to me and scooped me into his arms, taking me to the bed.
He sat me down on the bed and placed the board in front of me.
“Im going to feed you, please eat a lot to regain your strength,” he said, and I nodded.
Lucien took the spoon and fed me while I silently ate.
After I ate breakfast, Lucien took me straight to the clinic. He refused to believe that I was better.
We met the doctor, and he took my blood and urine samples and ran some tests.
The result came out, and I had a high fever, so I had to be treated immediately.
Lucien requested that I be treated at home; the doctor agreed, and he will come around later to treat me.
I left the clinic with Lucien; he picked up some of my favourites on the drive home.
By the time the doctor and nurse came around, I was in bed.
They fixed the IV and sedated me to rest.
The last thing I remember was passing out.
