Chapter 114

–Theo–

I got a reply from Draven.

That was fast. I didn’t think he would agree so easily, but he did.

I was overjoyed when I saw that he agreed to send all the archive documents I might find helpful to my pack.

Once they arrive, Kaia will find the one she wanted, and the rest will be returned.

I typed a reply and sent it to him.

Then, I got up to stretch my legs.

While walking out, I bumped into Lucien, and he looked like he was ready to pick a fight, and I was prepared to give it to

him as well.

“This is your game plan, isn’t it?” Lucien stopped in front of me, asking, and I wondered what he was going on about.

“What are you talking about?” I frowned.

Lucien hadn’t spoken to me since the fight we had, except the night he came looking for Kaia.

So I was baffled that he was accusing me of something I didn’t know about.

“Stop the pretence, Theo!” Lucien barked in my face, looking utterly disgusted. “The problem with you is that you are a coward. You throw stones, hide your hands, then pretend to be a good person in front of everyone.

“You may manage to fool everyone into taking your side, but not me. I can see right through you.”

I watched him vomit everything he had in his mouth, and I waited for the part where he told me what I did to him, but it didn’t come.

“Are you done?” I clasped my chest. “Would you tell me what this is about now?”

“You asked Kingsley to send me to oversee the miserable villages, didn’t you?” He asked, and I shook my head. “You wanted me out of your way so that you’ll keep occupying a position that you clearly cannot properly run”

“I didn’t do anything of that sort, you’re welcome to ask Kingsley for an explanation,” I nonchalantly muttered and made to leave, but he pushed me back, stopping me from going.

“You don’t want to face me because you know what you did wrong, right?” He asked, then balled his fists and made to attack

I blocked his punch, and he was enraged.

“Im warning you, Lucien, watch your words,” I said, “I’m still the alpha of this pack, and you’ll show me respect”

“Alpha?” he scoffed as if he heard a funny joke. “You don’t deserve to be Alpha with that weak heart of yours, Theo. You are a joke of an alpha!”

Pow!

I smacked my fists into his face, almost shifting his jaw. He looked at me with bloodshot eyes, and he could see how angry

I

was.

“Lucien, don’t forget the only reason why you are still in this pack is that I,” I said, and he glared at me, furious. “If I wanted you gone, I don’t need to have Kingsley send you to manage a village. I will strip you of your rights and kick you to the curb,” I threatened, and Lucien looked shocked.

“This is your last warning. I won’t take any more of your nonsense”

Lucien had a way of getting under my skin. I kept tolerating it for years, but now it’s getting too much.

I will have to show him his place.

I was made to leave. I heard him yelling from behind me.

“Theo, this isn’t over yet,” He barked. “You may be Alpha, but I will teach you a lesson my way!”

I turned a deaf ear to him and didn’t want to find my mate, who was soaking in a bath in our room.

I sat on our bed, still burning with rage from my altercation with Lucien.

“What is the matter, darling?” Kaia walked in, wearing a bathrobe.

“It’s Lucien, he’s at it again,” I muttered, and clenched my fists.

Goddess knew how much I hated having anything to do with Lucien. He was irrelevant to me in the grand scheme of things.

I wish he would stay out of my way, the same way I’m staying out of his.

“He thinks I put Kingsley in charge of overseeing a few villages as the new village chief”, I said, and Kaia came closer to me. She hugged me.

She stood behind me, then she massaged my neck, and I leaned in, letting my body stretch.

Her hands touched all the pain-streaked places on my body, and I felt relieved from the tension.

“Dont think about it,” Kaia kissed my neck while stroking my hair. “Lucien is going through it. I wouldn’t take him seriously. You shouldn’t either”

Kaia’s massages made me feel better, and I soon forgot about Lucien.

“Oh, before I forget,” I said, drawing Kaia’s attention. “Draven agreed to give us the documents you wanted”

“Wow, that’s great!” Kaia looked genuinely excited, and I wondered if we would get anything out of it.

I had already opened a secret investigation into Kaia’s parents. These documents would help us further our cause, and I hope something positive comes out of it.

Kaia deserves closure, and I will help her get it.

“Have you decided what we are going to do in the Nightshade pack?” Kaia asked me after we settled the document case.

I pinched my chin.

“I entrusted the gamma with the arrangements,” I answered, and she nodded. “We just need to get ready to leave for Nightshade in three days”

“It’s almost here, I’m so -” Kaia grinned and stopped herself.

“Yes, and I hope we do well in our games,” I said. “Uncle Mathew loves a winning team, it will be a huge honour to get his recognition”, I said, and didn’t realise I was asking when I said this.

“You and the mighty Alpha of the Nightshade pack seem to get along really well,” Kaia pointed out. “How did that happen?”

I waved my hand as my mind travelled down a memory line.

“It’s a long story, Love,” I said, locking eyes with Kaia. “But Uncle Mathew is my godfather; unfortunately, things happened, and I didn’t see him for a long time. I will tell you everything there is to know”

I pulled Kaia into my arms, feeling the warmth of her body against mine.

She kissed my forehead, and I found myself wanting more.

We spent some time making love and fell asleep soon after.

When we woke up again, it was evening, and we went to eat dinner with Justine and Zane.

They looked lovely. Happy and lovey-dovey in each other’s arms just like before, and I was relieved to see that.

“You reek of each other,” I said, and Zane’s face turned red.

“I could say the same for you and Kaia,” he replied, and I couldn’t deny it.

Since Kaia and I found out we are expecting, we couldn’t stop thinking of the family we would build together.

That alone fuels the hunger we have for each other, and we couldn’t keep our hands off each other.

“Jus, do you have anything planned for the trip to Nightshade?” I heard Kaia asked Justine.

Justine dropped her cutlery and faced Kaia. They looked so excited as they talked about the pending trip.

“I haven’t thought much of it, but now that you brought it up, it’s wise to think things through and make plans ahead”, Justine said, and Kaia agreed.

“This is going to be one hell of a trip, I want us to make the most of it”, Kaia said, then she pulled out her tablet. “Look, I brought my tablet, let’s decide on everything and conclude on it. I will write them now”

Zane and I sat there like intruders while the two women made plans right in front of us, leaving us aside like ghosts.

Occasionally, they would ask for our input, and that was it.

“Theo, we would like to visit the Cosmic Lake. I’ve heard so much about it. You and Beta Zane will take Justine and me to watch the lake, is that okay?” Kaia asked me, and I agreed.

“Of course, there would be so much fun❞

We had a lot to talk about, and before we knew it, the time had flown by, and we returned to our rooms.

While Kaia went to bed immediately, I had a word with my father in his room.

When I went to him, he was making ginger tea.

“Would you like a cup of ginger tea?” he asked me. I nodded. “You know it has become a habit. Mariela and I used to share a cup before bed back then”

He smiled, recalling the incident. I wondered how badly her death affected him.

“Umm, by the way, what brings you here?”

“Lucien,” I said. “Why did you send him to those villages?”

“Because he doesn’t have what it takes to lead a pack,” Kingsley said. “I sent him there for him to learn from the grassroots. Maybe if he does well, the alpha council will give him a chance to rule them. This is the most I can do for him”

I understood his predicament, but Lucien was blinded by his rage and hatred towards me, unable to think deeply.

“He thinks I put you up to it,” I mouthed, and Kingsley sighed, tired of Lucien’s antics.

“I’m sorry he accused you of that,” he said. “I should have made him understand”

“It’s okay,” I mutter. “I think you made the right choice, and if he goes with your plans, his future will be secured”

“Thank you. I wish Lucien would see it as you do”

We chatted a little, and Kingsley revealed a little of the thing he had been holding in, and I felt pity for him.

I wanted to know about him and Alpha Mathew, but I didn’t want to pressure him to tell me.

In the end, I retired to my room to work on a few things without having all the information.

I saw Kaia passed out on our bed; she looked like a goddess, and my heart did a flip at the sight of her.

And I recalled the first time I saw her at the academy. She stole my heart and everything I had to offer.

I have no regrets about loving a woman like her. I hope I am worthy of her love; I will work harder to make myself worthy of her.
