Chapter 115
–Lucien–
I packed my things to leave for the village where Kingsley had me sent.

It was a rural place in the western region. They had no Alpha system and only did communal living due to an event that happened before.
I know why Kingsley is doing this to me; it was because of Theo.
He wanted me far away so that I would not dethrone Theo to become the alpha.
He, as well as everyone, knows Theo is not fit to be Alpha; that is why he’s doing everything he can to keep me from snatching the position from his son.
At first, I didnt want to go, but I realised this was his ploy to test and strip me of everything I deserve if I refused to do as he says.
He knew how much I wanted to be Alpha, yet he sent me to oversee a village as an acting village chief and to settle the dispute between the people while they figured out a new chief.
As the king of the Alpha Council, who also acted as the leader of the western region, Kingsley had to oversee the smaller villages that had no Alphas and depended on him for rescues.
It should be Theo doing the rescues, not me, Dan!
I should be the one giving out orders while Theo executes them.
I clenched my fists, realising how unfair it is that Theo is living the life I should be living.
I am the one with a firm and healthy heart, not Theo.
I am physically and mentally stronger than him, yet the moon goddess played her sick trick and did not bless me with the alpha genes.
When my mom found out Kingsley was her mate, I was overjoyed.
Finally, I would stop being seen as the son of a drunk, who died drinking his ass away.
Mom and I were happy when Kingsley brought us here. I thought everything would fall into place as Kingsley saw me as his son, and he treated me as such.
Everything was going according to my plans. I tried to impress Kingsley, and I grew in strength, too.
I was convinced he would choose me as the next Alpha when he stepped down.
I was shaken beyond words when he chose Theo over me the day he presented the crown heir to the pack members and council.

It broke me completely. I couldn’t understand why he would do that to me.

Theo could barely survive his training; his coach had to bring in a doctor each time they had an intense training. On the other hand, I would finish my intense training without hassle.
Theo collapsed every week and spent most of his life in the hospital and the healer’s chambers.
During this time, Kingsley treated me as though I were the only thing that mattered. Turns out, that sly old fox was playing around with me.
Theo would always be his biological son, and I’m just the son of his mate, whom he took pity on.
I was sure this was how he saw me, and I was determined to take things into my own hands.
Shadowclaw deserves a healthy Alpha, and I would be that for them.
“Are you going to do this?” I heard Elara ask from behind, and I turned to face her.
“Yes, I know Kingsley didn’t send me there in good faith. He must have something up his sleeve. I can’t let him win,” I said, and she nodded.
“Honestly, I dont think Kingsley is planning anything against you, Lucien”, Elara said and picked up her scarf. “I mean, the man loves you as it is. He could just be doing this to help you out”
“Loves me?” I scoffed; my eyes were filled with disdain. “He doesn’t love me; he never did. The only reason he tolerated me was that my mother is his mate. Also, because his son is useless, he needed a substitute to save face. Now that he doesn’t need me anymore, he’s throwing me out”
I could feel my blood boiling as I spoke.
I recalled how Kingsley would take me everywhere with him back then, even to places where he’d never take Theo.
He introduced me to everyone as his son, yet when it was time to prove that I was truly his son, he chose that weakling.
He might have fooled me before, but he can’t fool me anymore.
“Theo is not useless!” Elara snapped, and I realised she still doesn’t want to hear anything against him. “Watch the way you talk about him in front of me, Lucien”
I shook my head, laughing at myself pitifully.
“Even my wife is taking his side,” I uttered, raising my head to look at Elara’s face. “I’m always losing to Theo,
aren’t I?”
“It’s not like that, Lucien” Elara tried to touch me, but I moved away.
“It doesn’t matter now,” I took my wallet and
I didn’t wait to hear her explanation.

I walked out of our room, and I could sense Elara following me, but I didn’t care to check.
When I got downstairs, my mom was there, talking to Kingsley. It looked like they were having a heated argument.
She came up to me the moment she saw me; tears were in her eyes.
“Listen to me, baby,” she said, holding my bag. “You don’t have to do this. You shouldn’t have to prove yourself to anyone, please”
“I want to do this, Mom,” I said, and she looked perplexed. “If this is what it takes, then I will do it. Don’t worry about me, I can handle myself”
Kingsley got up and walked to where we were. He stopped in front of me.
“Look, son, I’m not doing this because I hate you or anything,” he said, and I wanted to laugh in his face, but I stopped myself. “I’m doing this for your own good. If you help the villages out of their crisis, there is a lot to gain from this”
He tried to pay me on the shoulder, but I dodged him. I was angry. If he touched me, I would lose it, and I don’t know what I would do to him.
“Mother, look after yourself and Elara. I have to go” I turned to leave, and my mom refused to let go.
“No, please!” she cried. “Dont go anywhere, I will speak to Kingsley and get this order reversed. You don’t have to do this”
“Let it go, mother,” I gritted my teeth. I was already furious, and she was making it worse. “Im not a child, I can do this much”
She wanted to continue her dramatic pleas, but I wasn’t in the mood.
Just then, the driver walked in to inform me.
“Sir Lucien, the car is ready to leave,” he said, bowing his head respectfully. At least, someone still regards me in this pack.
“Im ready to leave, let’s go”, I walked past the driver and headed out.
