Chapter 116
We were startled awake by an argument outside.
I looked at my watch and realised it was 9pm already.
:
Liam and I got up and went outside to see what was happening.
When we got there, we saw William in a heated argument with a man I hadn’t seen before.
“What’s going on here?” Liam asked, and William turned to us; he didn’t hear us coming.

“It’s nothing, sir, I will handle it”, William said, trying to send us away, but my interest got piqued the most. “Please go get some rest”
I looked at the man breathing fervently in front of William; he had a disdainful expression on his face, and I couldn’t miss it.
I pushed William aside and walked in front of the man.
“What’s going on here?” I asked, directed at the man. “Why are you making a scene?”
The man glared at William, stopping himself from speaking.
“Speak,” I ordered, and he flinched. “That’s an order!”
William wanted to stop him, but he couldn’t defy my orders, so he looked away.
“Why are you here?” The man spoke, and I frowned. “After everything you and your family have done to us, you still have the nerve to show your face in front of us”
I was surprised. What was he talking about?
“What are you talking about? What did my family do to you?” I asked. I looked at William, and he didn’t say anything.
“Tell him, William, would you or I should tell him instead?” the man said, and I waited for William to say something, but he didn’t. “You welcomed a man like him into our town after everything they’ve done. You should be ashamed of yourself. You are supposed to stand with our people, not betray us”
I was getting impatient at this point. I clenched my teeth.
“Would someone tell me what’s going on here?” I demanded angrily.
“We don’t want you here!” The man said.
“Why? I have the right to be here,” I said, and he scoffed as I cracked a joke.
“You don’t have the right to be here after you and your family ruined our lives!” He said.

“What is that supposed to mean? Speak clearly!”

“Your alpha sent, who conveniently happened to be your brother, sent an order demanding taxes from us, and when we failed to pay, he sent men to kill us and assault our women”, he narrated, and I was shocked.
Theo did what? But why?
“Do you realise what you’re saying?” I questioned. “It’s treason to accuse the alpha of something of this magnitude falsely.”
The man shook his head, clearly disappointed by me. He thought I was putting on a pretence.
“Mateo, that’s enough!” William said, trying to stop the man from talking any further.
“No, it’s not enough, William!” Mateo snapped. “They ruined our lives. Both he and his dirty family. It wasn’t enough that the previous alpha had set us up for war, and we lost because of him. Everything was almost destroyed, and we thought we were finally free when the former alpha, Kingsley Ashford, came to our aid. Who could have thought that his son would be different from him and get greedy for our mineral resources?
“Why did you think it was a good idea to let a man from that awful family into our homes?”
I smirked in my head, unable to believe my luck. If this turns out to be true, Theo could get impeached and unseated as Alpha. And the only person left would be me.
“Can you prove that the order came from the alpha himself?” I asked, prying to get all the evidence against Theo. “Why didn’t you come forward before? Why didn’t you complain to the council or anything?”
“We didn’t say anything because the alpha is a powerful man and we are just a lowly group with no power on our side”, Mateo said, and I could see his point. “And as for the proof, we have proofs”
I watched as Mateo walked up to William and whispered something in his ear.
William walked away for a few minutes and returned with a document.
“Here, sir Lucien, this is the scroll with the alpha seal. It was presented to us by an enforcer who came to demand the taxes”
I grabbed the scroll and looked at it seriously, and there it was, the alpha seal.
I couldn’t believe my luck, the weapon to destroy Theo was resting in my hands, and all I had to do was stir the council court against him.
“I have no idea why the alpha sent you here, but we won’t let you hurt any one of us again!” Mateo declared, and the rest of the people agreed, roaring with agitation.
“Look, I have no idea what happened, but trust me, I’m on your side”, I tried to reason with them. This was my chance to rally the people against Theo, and I won’t waste it. “Alpha Theo didn’t send me here. I came to oversee things and help you figure out your situation. I had no idea that Theo was behind what happened to
you.
“Now that you’ve told me everything, just give me a chance to help you get just once against my power-drunk

brother, Theo, who wickedly took everything from you”
When I said this, Mateo looked at William, and then the rest of his people murmured among themselves.
They didn’t trust me at all, and I could see it in their eyes. But still, I won’t give up.
I will fan the flames of hatred in their hearts for Theo. This should be fun and rewarding.
“You can ask around, Theo and I hate each other, and it’s because of the way he handles the pack”, I added, trying to make their decision-making easier for them. “If you give me a chance, I will get Justice for you all against Theo”
“Alright, we are giving you a chance to prove that you are not like your brother, Alpha Theo”, Mateo said. He seemed to be their leader and spokesperson. “Don’t disappoint or betray us. This is our warning to you”
“Trust me, I want to get justice for you, and I won’t back down”, I vowed.
Then Mateo walked away with the people, while William walked up to me, looking pensive.
“Sir Lucien, are you sure about this?” William asked, and he had fear in his eyes.
I wanted to laugh out loud. He is not the one who should be scared; it’s Theo who should watch out.
“Great injustice has happened to your people, I’m only doing what’s right”, I said, and William looked at me in admiration.
Right, he should get used to respecting me. Because very soon, he will refer to me as alpha, with his head lowered.
“Thank you, sir, this means a lot to my people, and I can’t repay you for this”, William said.
“You don’t have to repay me for anything, I’m only doing what’s right”, I assured him, patting his shoulder.
William invited us to eat dinner at his house, and we obliged.
It was best to keep eyes and ears open for anything that could incriminate Theo. And the best way to do that is by befriending the people who hate Theo as much as I do.
