I was so angry after hearing what Elara and Cara had done right under my nose.

My feelings for her blinded me so much that I couldn’t see through her acts.

Because of that, many people suffered in silence.

My chest welled up with anger all through dinner, and when we returned to our room. I couldn’t erase whatever I was feeling

I showered and picked up my laptop to work because there was a lot that needed my attention.

And I thought working would ease the anger I was feeling.

I spent the next three hours working, and when I raised my head after finishing. I saw Kaia sleeping soundly.

She looked tired, and I suddenly felt bad for leaving her alone when she was so tired.

I stood up, went to bed, and drew the blanket to cover her.

I looked at my watch; it was lam.

I decided to take a walk outside to stretch my legs, so I picked up my jacket and phone.

Walking outside, I slowly closed the door to avoid waking up Kaia. I know she needs to sleep a lot to regain her strength.

When I got outside, there was a half-moon in the sky. A night like this is good for running and hunting. Unfortunately, I wasn’t in my pack; otherwise, I would have taken Kaia for midnight runs and hunting.

I breathed, letting the moonlight spill on me; it felt good somehow.

After standing outside for a while, I dipped my hand into my pocket and realised I still had a leftover of the miniature Don Julio, so I pulled it out.

I uncuffed it and leaned my head back, taking a big gulp. I felt it burning as it went down my stomach.

Maybe it was the alcohol or something else, but I felt free soon after.

“Couldn’t sleep?” I heard a voice from back, and I turned sharply

I flinched for a moment, afraid it was someone else, but it turned out to be Katya.

“Yes,” I breathed. “I needed fresh air, so I came outside”

“Me too,” she yawned tiredly. “I had such a long day, and I couldn’t sleep when I attempted to”

“I get that feeling, it happens a lot”, I said, and she smiled.

She stood beside me on the balcony and stared at the sky.

“The moon of preparing for a full bloom, isn’t it?” she asked, looking up, and I nodded. “This is one of those nights I like going hunting”

“Me too,” I said. “I love hunting on half-moon nights, it’s peaceful and less dangerous, and the animals come out on moon nights to play”

“Oh my, this is so true!” Katya ecstatically clapped her hands. “We really have a lot in common, no wonder we are friends. Unless you’ve had me replaced”

She strapped her hands under her chest, looking at me with suspicion, and I already knew what that look meant.

She was suspecting me and wanted to either validate her or tell the truth about whether she had been replaced,

“Replaced?” I repeated, feigning ignorance. “Who on earth can place you?”

“I don’t know,” she shrugged. “A lot of people, seeing how you didn’t care about me for years, it wouldn’t matter if you got a new best friend, replacing me”

I moved a little closer and clutched her neck, pretending to chol her, like I used to do when we were little.

“Nobody can replace you in my life,” I said, and she scoffed. “I st think about you all the time, I was dealing with a lot of shit, and I didn’t have the time to come find you”

I felt emotions surging through me, and Katya turned to me; she probably heard it in my voice.

“You miss Auntie Mariela so much, don’t you?” she asked, looking into my eyes.

I nodded, and she clasped my hand, squeezing it.

“You know,” she sucked her lower lip. “Mom might not tell you this, but she regrets every day for cutting ties with Alpha Kingsley, which directly affected her relationship with you. She would cry when she missed you and Auntie Mariela”

I knew she was telling the truth. Luna Morgana loved me as a child and wanted to take me mother’s father, but he wouldn’t give me up. That’s why I didn’t see them for a long time.

“I know she did, I could see it in her eyes”, I said.

“Also, I heard what that bastard Miguel did to you?” Katya angrily spat. She clenched her fists. “Him and that awful woman, Elara”

“I don’t want to talk about them anymore,” I said and looked away.

“Im sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you”, Katya said.

“I’m not upset,” I said. “They are my past now, and I want nothing to do with them”, I stated.

“I understand,” Katya nodded, and I knew she could understand why I didn’t want to talk about it. “But, I was wondering how you’re coping with Elara, I mean, you two are basically living in the same house now, and Kaia, how does she feel about this?”

I jolted when Katya said it, my eyes flung to her, and she looked confused.

“Wait, don’t tell me Kaia doesn’t know about this”, Katya said, raising a finger to her ear, and I nodded.

“She knows what Elara did,” I breathed. “But she had no idea it was with Miguel”

“You should tell her, she deserves to know so that it wouldn’t come as a surprise to her later”, Katya said, and I agree with her.

“I didn’t know it would come to this?” I sighed breathily. “I wasn’t expecting things to get this complicated”

Katya moved closer, patting my back.

“It wasn’t your fault, Theo,” she said, looking at me. “Those two bastards betrayed you. They should be ashamed, not you”
