The days flew by, and it was Monday, and we had to go to Kingspire District for the hearing again.
I was prepared for whatever the council would throw our way.
Theo looked nervous as we arrived at the courthouse. He smiled at me, but I could tell he was scared.
One, we don’t know what the council has against him, whether the enforcer has an alibi, or anything that would incriminate Theo.
I clutched his finger and smiled at him, assuring him that nothing would happen.
“You need to relax, Theo,” I said. “Everyone can feel your anxiety rolling off. Please try to control yourself”
Theo nodded, and we continued to walk in. Hand in hand.
We arrived at the courtroom, and we went straight to our seats, the same place we sat last time.
Everyone was waiting for us, and the moment we settled in, they began.
“Welcome, Alpha Theo”, a woman said, bowing to greet Theo. “We are glad you are here again”
Then, she stopped and looked at me. I saw disdain in her eyes, but I couldn’t tell why.
“In case you are not aware, Alpha Theo. This court only allows family members. Bringing your fiancée here is against the rules, and we cannot allow this disrespect. Kaia is not your Luna et; she can’t sit in the court.” The woman said, turning to shoot me glances.
“Diana Mortins, Kaia is going to be my luna sooner than later, and as my wife and mother of my pup, she has every right to be here. Not only that, she will act as my defence. She will ask and answer questions on my behalf just as she did last time.”
Theo looked at everyone in the room, his voice rising slightly and making them flinch.
“This is the last time I will address this. Kaia will be treated with the same respect accorded to me. She will be the luna of Shadowclaw pack and the lady of the west. I would advise you to treat her respectfully; otherwise, I wouldn’t mind doing something about it,” he said, and everyone silently nodded.
“Very well then, let’s proceed with today’s hearing Diana Mortins said, changing the topic.
I smirked, realising what they tried to do. They wanted to get rid of me so they could corner and pressure Theo into breaking.
“Last time it came to our notice that you ordered attacks on the ulnerable villages in the deep west because they failed to pay up taxes you forced on them” Diana flashed a paper, which know was a forged document. “Villages in the deep west are victims of wars and betrayal, and they are a responsibility of the shadowclaw now. Taxing them is out of the question.
“Not only did you tax them. You sent soldiers after them when they couldn’t pay, and these attacks led to the death of innocent people. And now, these people antagonised the Shadowclaw pack. Not only that, they are on the verge of revolt”
Theo clenched his fist at the ridiculous accusations.
Diana looked at him, then at me.
“What do you have to say about this, Alpha Theo?” she asked and sat down.
Theo stood up, about to say something, but I held him back and stood up
instead.

Chapter 147
They were getting on my nerves, and I wanted to put them in their place.
“I believe we shouldn’t be beating around the bush like stray dogs.” I said, and they looked at me.

Diana was pissed, and she wanted to shut me up, but Spokesman Garry Walter stopped her, and she begrudgingly sat down.
“Thank you, Mr Speaker,” I said, and he nodded.
“Im sure everyone can attest to the fact that we went over this last week, and we shouldn’t be wasting our time on this,” I said. “Councilwoman Diana, in case you are not aware, there is no evidence that Theo did any of the things you are accusing him of. So, it wouldn’t be wise to pass judgment on him like that. Henceforth, I would advise you to speak carefully to avoid complicating things”
I turned around to face the spokesman, Garry.
“We were told the enforcer who took the signed order from the alpha will be presented in court today. Please bring him, let’s proceed, let’s not waste the court’s time”
Garry signalled at someone, and they went out to bring in a man who I assumed was the enforcer.
Then I was led to the witness stand and allowed to question him.
“Enforcer Shiloh Gilbert,” I said, standing in front of him. “Can you confirm that Alpha Theo Ashford himself handed over the order to you?”
Shiloh Gilbert shook his head before looking up at me. He looked frightened.
“No, Lady Kaia”, he answered, his lips quivering.
“No?” I repeated. “Why not?”
“The document didn’t come from the alpha himself,” he continued. “Yes, I got the signed order to carry out an attack on the deep west, specifically Seeland, and since it has the pack seal and the alpha’s scent, I had no reason to doubt it”, he said.
I shook my head silently. This wasn’t just an attempt to frame Theo.
It was an attempt to disrupt the peace in our world, and Theo happened to be the perfect villain they could use.
“What you are trying to say is that someone gave you a signed order from the alpha, and it bears the Alpha’s scent, but it didn’t come from the alpha himself?” I asked him again, and he answered.
“That’s right, my lady, “Shiloh said.
“Can you identify who gave you the order?” I asked. “Where and at what time did they give it to you?”
“Yes, my lady,” Shiloh nodded. “It was in October of last year”
“If I recall correctly, in October of last year, Theo was in the forest chasing after attackers who were making moves against the pack. So, how is it possible that he was waging attacks on Seeland at the same time when he was fighting against attacks as well?”
“I can’t tell, my lady, it’s the order I got, and I acted on it”, Shiloh said in his defence.
“Did you verify with the alpha himself?” I asked, and he fell silent.
“No, my lady,” he shook his head. “The alpha was in the forest, and I trusted the seal and the scent”
“And that’s all”, I said, backing away.

I swiftly spun around, facing the council members, who had unreadable expressions.

“I would like to assume it has been established that Theo had nothing to do with whatever happened in Seeland and the other villages in the deep west”
“Aside from that, we have every reason to assume that the council did not do its job and relied on accusations to persecute the Alpha.”
“You can’t blame the council for taking the safety of the pack seriously, Lady Kaia”, Diana said, irritatedly.
“Well, I can, and I will blame the council for making a public spectacle without doing an investigation on the information they got,” I said, and they fell silent.
“Did the council even bother to check who ordered the letter? Who sent it, and who received it from the alpha himself? The time and where it was collected?” I scoffed, “Of course not, you failed to fact-check and went with fabricated evidence to persecute the Alpha”
The council members turned to each other, murmuring in silence, and I saw shame wash over their faces, and I knew they had made a big mistake.
“This is not me trying to question your competence, I’m just worried my mate is being roped into a big ploy, and the council is playing into it because they fail to fact-check. If the alpha didn’t order the attack, I think it’s reasonable to find out who would do such a thing, why, and what they stand to gain”
I finished and stepped aside.
“You are amazing, Kaia”, Zane linked me, and I smiled.
“I believe the council has made a big mistake, and we owe the Alpha an apology for summoning him without doing our due diligence. It’s disgraceful and a stain on our end”, Robert Half, the council leader, said.
He looked ashamed because of everything that had happened, and that was enough for me.
“We deeply regret our action and apologise for how we handled everything here today. We promise something like this will never happen again. Please give us a chance to rectify our mistake, and will make sure Seelanders knows you had nothing to do with what happened, your grace,” Robert said, and Theo glanced at me. I nodded at him.
“Thats okay,” Theo said.
As much as I wanted to drag things out, it’s not advisable to antagonise everyone yet, especially the council members. A lot of them have skeletons in their cupboards, and I will make them spill it out somehow.
“Enforcer Shiloh Gilbert should be taken along with us; he needs to be questioned,” I linked Theo.
“Shiloh Glibert will be imprisoned in the pack dungeon for the role he played in the attacks against the deep west”, Theo declared, and everyone gasped.
“Your grace, please have mercy, I promise I wasn’t trying to betray you”, Shiloh begged as they dragged him away.
I felt pity for him and wanted to get to the bottom of everything to see whether he was set up as well or lying to save his skin.
I will question him later.
Theo smiled and took my hand.
“Shall we go home, my dear Luna?” Theo asked, and I nodded.
“Yes, my Alpha”, we laughed and walked out of the courthouse with everyone staring.
