Chapter 148

–Theo–

I still couldn’t believe it.

I kept stealing glances at Kaia while she stood firmly in court, asking and answering questions on my behalf.

The way she stood up to them, if she weren’t here, I had no idea what I would have done.

Because of her, the council apologised to me and took me off the radar.

The truth is, it was their fault for not fact-checking and escalating the matter to the court, and now that we are here, they had no choice but to apologise to me.

And it was only possible because Kaia intervened.

Soon, she took my hand, and we got into the jeep and returned home.

When we got home, I wanted to take Kaia to get some rest, but she was adamant about the investigation.

“We can’t waste any more time, Theo”, Kaia said. “Who knows what else they are planning? I need to question Shiloh Gilbert right now”

“He will arrive in the van with the Kappas, you should rest until then”, I suggested and pulled her in for a hug.

She hugged me back and buried her nose in my chest.

After a while, she pulled away.

“I can’t rest knowing there are people out there plotting against you”, Kaia said. “I will come back after interrogating Shiloh Gilbert. You should come with me”

“I don’t think I’m ready for the truth yet, Kaia”, I said, looking away. “You should do it alone, tell me your findings”

“Alright, I will be right back”, Kaia said and left.

While she was gone, I couldn’t focus on resting anymore. I decided to get to the bottom of things in my own way.

I got out of my room and headed to my study.

Immediately, I got there, turned my computer on, and looked through my saved bookmarks.

Kaia had told me she saw the transactions go to the North, which means only one thing: the mastermind behind everything is either in the North or his accomplices are receiving the money

I picked up my phone and dialled a number; it rang for a minute

“Draven”, I greeted once the call connected. “We need to talk, and it’s very important.”

“Hey, long time no see, Theo”, Dragen happily said.

“Yeah, it’s been a while. ” Besides that, I called you for something very important, and I believe if this gets out, it will not only affect your pack’s image, but it’s relationship with everyone else I said, and I heard Draven go quiet on the line.

“What’s going on?” Draven asked with a cracked voice.

“I think someone is planning a terrorist attack on my pack, and they have somehow recruited some of your men”. I said.

“What?” Draven exclaimed. “How is that possible? I mean, how did you find this out?”

“I have been tracing a transaction, and it’s landed in the north, which means they are working with people in the North to carry out this attack”, I said.

“Now, what do I do to help?” Draven asked. “This is a serious matter, and the board doesn’t take it lightly”

“I know, and that’s the reason I’m worried,” I said, letting out a sigh. “I was almost framed just now, and I think it will get worse. These people are dangerous, and I’m not sure who their target is. need you to fish everyone in the north involved in this movement carefully. Do it discreetly to avoid alerting anyone”

“I understand, your orders will be carried out immediately,” Draven assured me. “And I will look into everyone suspicious”

“Keep me posted on your every finding. I will really appreciate it I said and ended the call.

I took a deep breath, feeling overwhelmed by everything happening at once.

We were supposed to be in the Nightshade pack. Having the time of our lives, watching the games and all the fun that came with it.

Unfortunately, these people had to disrupt our lives and rob us of the joy of spending some quality time together.

I walked out of the study. Maybe I should help Kaia question the enforcer and get the truth out of him.

If I don’t face it now, it will only get worse, and people will think I’m a pushover; I guess they already think so.

That’s why someone could forge documents in my name and attack villages to make me a war criminal to get me banished from my own pack.

For some reason, I had a feeling that Lucien was involved, and I wanted him back immediately.

Because on a normal day, he would be the first to face his face in front of me and mock my situation.

But, despite knowing I was on the verge of getting my position ripped away from me, he didn’t show up to stir trouble. That was strange, and I find it even more suspicious.

I was lost in my thoughts when someone stopped behind me.

“Theo,” I heard my name. I turned to see. “I can’t tell you how happy I am that you got out of the situation,” Kingsley said.

“Thanks to Kaia, I was acquitted of all charges”, I said, and he smiled.

“Kaia is truly the goddess’s blessing to us”, Kingsley said. “Ever since she came into our lives, she has done nothing but save our skin”

I nodded, recalling everything she had done so far. I realised without her, I would have drowned a long time ago.

My heart rippled with warmth and gratitude.

“She is truly a blessing,” I muttered.

“Here,” Kingsley stretched his hand to me. “I’ve meant to give this to you, but I didn’t get the chance”

I took it and opened it up.

“It’s the document from Silvermoon, it came in a few days back he said.

“Thank you,” I said and tried to walk away.

“Theo,” he called me, and I stopped. “Umm, never mind. Just take care of yourself”

I nodded and walked away.

If anyone needs caretaking, it should be the frauds working behind my back to disrupt the peace in my life.

Now, I’m going to show them exactly who they are messing with and they won’t make it out alive by the time I find them.

I linked Zane and Ronan to meet up. I needed them to do something very important for me.

And they came to my wing, and I informed them of everything I found out, and they expressed their suspicions and disbelief”

After that, I gave orders to look into every region for any terrorist group planning an attack.

I feel they might be connected, and I can’t take any chances.

I have to uproot everything from the ground and make sure they never get a chance to germinate again.

I gritted, holding back my pent-up anger.

They asked for this, I’m only giving it to them as they wanted.
