–Draven–

I was still drowning in self-doubt when I returned home.

I instinctively touched my face where Theo had slapped me earlier. Thankfully, it didn’t leave a mark.
It would have been hard to explain how I got it.
Finally, the car stopped in front of the house, and I came out, breathing deeply.
Everything wasn’t the same after I saw Kaia again.
She was living her life and was happy with Theo, after she ruined the life we had together.
Kaia claimed she didn’t do any of the things she was accused of.
I don’t believe her, but I can’t stop myself from thinking about it.
Especially with the rogues’ disappearance, who committed the crime against Liora.
I walked into the house, and Liora and Rabiya came to welcome me.
“Honey, why didn’t you tell me you were coming today?” Liora asked, after hugging me. “I could have made something for you”
“There is no need,” I replied. “Besides, I decided to surprise you. I finished my business early and came back home.”
“Oh, I see,” Liora smiled.
She looked so innocent when she smiled like that. How can a pure woman like her be capable of doing what Kaia was insinuating?
“Go ahead and freshen up,” Liora said. “I will ask the omegas to make something to eat”
I kissed her and headed to my room. I was tired from the trip.
I stood under the shower and let the cold water run down my back.
It felt good, but it didn’t wash away the image from my mind.
I could still remember how angry Theo was when he came to my room this morning, and the way his fists met my face.
Not to mention, Kaia’s eyes, cold and full of contempt, when she spoke to me.
She was no longer the same woman who would do anything to please me. She was different, and it was evident in the way she scolded me.

Seeing her reminded me of what I had lost
Her scent lingered in my thoughts, sharp and warm, making my chest tighten. I kept seeing her, hearing her words, feeling the weight of what I had lost.
I clenched my fists, my wolf growling deep inside me, restless and angry.
“You let her go. You should have fought for her.” He growled. “You should never have cheated on her and treated her like a worthless piece of trash, Draven!”
I swallowed hard and turned off the water, but the memories didn’t leave.
My wolf ignored me and tried to bury everything behind me, but it wouldn’t work.
Then my wolf stirred again; he was angry and restless.
Growling low, deep in my chest. “You lost our mate. I told you Liora wasn’t right for us, but you wouldn’t listen. Now, have you seen what you’ve done? Our mate is with another man, and she looks happy. Way happier than she looked when she was here. You lost her, our mate.”
My wolf was angry, and I could feel him fuming in my head. He had never supported my relationship with Liora, but I forced him to accept whatever mate I was giving him.
Kaia betrayed us; there was no use staying with someone like that.
“Shut up, Smoke!” I growled back. Smoke didn’t back down. “None of this would have happened if Kaia didn’t betray us, alright? It was all her fault!”
“You are still grasping at straws,” Smoke scoffed, and I felt pathetic. “You know the truth, Draven. Kaia didn’t do anything wrong. Our mate would never attempt to kill anyone, especially not our heir. Moreover, the heir wouldn’t exist if you didn’t backstab her in the first place”
My heart clenched in pain. I didn’t expect my own wolf to backstab me and take Kaia’s side.
Smoke always loved Kaia, but I’m his partner and his loyalty should be to me, not to her.
I hate how easily Kaia has everyone wrapped around her fingers.
Even when she was here, she handled internal affairs with ease, and everyone loved her for it.
I thought Liora would easily replace Kaia because she was also good at mediating. After all, she worked as my advisor for a year before we mated.
Unfortunately, I realised she couldn’t fill Kaia’s gap with the people.
The pack members wouldn’t say anything to me, but I noticed they would occasionally talk about Kaia, and when they saw me, they would halt.
It’s been months, and she was still breathing loudly in every corner of my pack.
“Deny it all you want, but this pack is not a home without Kaia, and you hate that your precious new Luna

couldn’t take her place” Smoke prowled in the back of my mind, restless and scolding.
I gritted my teeth and balled my fists tight.

After meeting Kaia again, Smoke has refused to let me forget that I made the right decision for the pack and me at the time.
“And who says Kaia was barren again? Aaah you! Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but she was never barren, you were just an impatient bastard!” Smoke scolded one last time and retreated to the back of my head.
I had let myself be weak for once, and now my wolf wouldn’t let me forget it.
