Chapter 181
:
The knocking didn’t stop.
:
I moved toward the door; my wolf was on full alert, ready to attack.
Kaia stayed behind me, her fingers clenched in my shirt.
I swung the door open.
Zane stood there, breathing heavily, his eyes were wild, and blood spattered across his jaw.
“Alpha-” he choked out. “We’ve been breached.”
My heart dropped immediately. “Where?”

“The back border,” Zane rasped. “They used the old drainage path; someone on the inside must have cleared it. We’re under direct attack.”
Kaia gasped behind me, a quiet sound that sliced through my chest.
“How many?” I demanded.
“Enough to cause chaos,” Zane said. “They are more than enough to be a problem.”
His eyes flicked over my shoulder to Kaia. “We need you. Now.”
“You should have mindlinked me,” I said, feeling frustrated.
“You locked the end out. I couldn’t reach you,” Zane said. “But don’t worry, I sent the men out already. We need to back them up”
Oh shit!
I wanted a peaceful moment with my Luna and didn’t want to be disturbed, so I locked everyone out of my mindlink.
I didn’t hesitate. I grabbed my jacket and weapons and turned to Kaia.
Her eyes were wide, frightened, but she was trying hard to conceal them. At the same time, she tried to mask the tremble in her hands.
1 took her face in both palms.
“Go to Justine and Maliya. Stay with them. Don’t come out until I come back for you. No matter what you hear.”
She opened her mouth to argue.
I didn’t let her.

Chapter 181
…
“Kaia,” I said, my voice sharp with authority and fear I couldn’t hide. “Please.”
Something in her softened. She nodded.
“I’ll stay with them,” she whispered. “Just… come back to me.”
I kissed her quickly, fiercely, like I needed her breath in my lungs before I walked into war.
“I will.”
I turned to Zane. “Move, let’s go”
We ran out into the forest, towards the back border.
The strong scent of blood was already drifting in the air.
It was pungent and distasteful. My men must have killed a few men because the smell was strong.

In the meantime, a few Kappas took the residents to safety while we headed out to fight the attackers.
Stash surged forward like a beast unleashed, and soon I shifted into my wolf and began tearing up the intruders.
There were a lot of them, and I was annoyed that they all managed to sneak into the pack undetected.
We didn’t have many warriors in the mansion right now, which worried me.
They outnumbered us. There are about sixty of them, and there are just twenty of us right now.
I didn’t recognise any of them, and they smelled like rotten flesh.
They must be rogues, hired for this particular, and they fight savagely.
I did not know who sent them, but I was sure they went overboard with their tactics.
They came at me, and Stash took over, gnawing at their throats and cutting up anyone who came at us.
1 unleashed my anger on them, angry that they ruined my sweet moment with Kaia, and I wasn’t about to let them get away with it.
A wolf jumped at us, aiming for my neck. I knocked it away with all my strength, and it flew away, hitting a tree and dying on impact.
I lunged at another wolf and killed it.
When I looked around, many of the attackers had died, and we were about to kill the rest.
The remaining attackers were cornered, and I could feel victory buzzing in my veins.
The puck was strong and coordinated, as a result, we were able to deliver the right punch to subdue the
attackers

Then, suddenly, it hit us.
A hissing, faint at first, then a thick, choking smell overpowered us.
My wolf stirred beneath my skin, growling, but even it couldn’t counteract what was coming.
A strange mist rolled over us. My vision blurred and my strength faltered.
“What-” I gasped, coughing, trying to lift my arms.
The attackers smirked, their eyes wild.
“You’re finished,” one of them rasped.
The air burned in my lungs, and my muscles screamed with weakness.
My wolf struggled to fight back, but the mist sapped my strength, and I felt it leaving me.
Even the warriors staggered, claws scraping against the ground as they tried to resist.
I knew we had been poisoned, and we might not make it.
Stash groaned, struggling to get us back on our feet, but we couldn’t stand.

We watched as the remaining attackers charged towards us like mad wolves, their eyes blazed with something dark.
I realised this was their plan all along, to weaken us when they are losing and win by cheating.
We had succeeded in killing and injuring more than half of their men, and they knew they would die if they didn’t weaken us with poison.
Stash was angry and wanted to fight to the death. But there was nothing we could do. We couldn’t even lift o bodies from the ground.
The remaining wolf came at us, and Stash growled, trying to make them get away from us,
But the attackers didn’t care; they wanted to kill us, and they won’t rest until they do.
A grey wolf lunged at me, and a silver wolf came out of nowhere and slammed away into a tree.
The grey wolf growled, and his men took charge, ready to fight off the silver wolf in unison.
Just then, another wolf, a green one, came out from the side and joined the silver one to fight.
I didn’t know who the two wolves were, but I was grateful for their help.
Soon, the two wolves fought the attackers like madmen, tearing them up and killing them in one big slash across the throat.
They were skilful and didn’t give the attackers a moment’s breathing space.

Taking them on until we got back on our feet after the poison wore off.

We joined them and killed the remaining wolves. The anger I felt fueled my desperation to see them all dea but Zane stopped at the last minute, opting to take some of the wolves for questioning.
I agreed and let him do so.
Then, I shifted back to my human and knelt in front of the wolves, who came to help us.
One of them lowered their head respectfully in front of me; it was a lower-ranked wolf, and I knew that.
I looked at the silver one with glowing fur, came to nudge me, and my heart jumped.
She shifted back to her human form, and my heart panicked when I saw who it was.
“My goodness, blue eyes?” My eyes widened. “What are you doing here?”
Fear gripped my heart, afraid that those wolves would hurt her.
“I came to help,” Kaia said. “I knew you would use some help, and I decided to come”
“You can’t do that, Kaia”, I was furious. “This is not something you go around doing like it’s nothing; those people are dangerous”
“Look, nothing happened, okay?” She said, twirling. She was smiling, and that enraged me.
“That’s not for you to decide, okay?” I angrily said, then took her hand, forcing her to come with me.
The other elf turned out to be Maliya, who decided to join Kaia in fighting the wolves.
Thankfully, they didn’t drag Justine into their madness; it would have been worse, and I know Zane wouldn’t like it.
I picked Kaia up, took her to our room, and mindlinked the healer immediately,
Before we got there, the healer was waiting, and I let her examine Kaia,
She told me everything was fine, but I was too paranoid to believe it. So, I asked her to check again.
She did it three times, and I still wasn’t satisfied.
Suddenly, I heard a whimper, and I turned to look. Kaia was crying.
“Honey, what happened?” I worriedly asked, cupping her face. “Did you get hurt anywhere?”
I turned to face the healer and raged.
“I told you, she was hurt” I yelled. “You didn’t check her properly. What if something happens to her?”
The healer lowered her head apologetically.
