While I was lost in my thoughts, I felt a moment in the room, and I raised my head to Theo, who was walking in.

Theo moved toward me, but his gaze was distant and gloomy.

“Theo,” I whispered. “What’s the skull crest? Why are your warriors scared?”

He stopped in his tracks.

“I’ll explain later,” he said quietly. “When I get more information.”

But his eyes said something else entirely. It looked like he already knew the truth, but he didn’t want to tell me anything. At least, not yet.

And whoever the master is, he’s closer than we think.

I swallowed tightly.

Theo walked up to me and engulfed me in his embrace. I buried myself in his chest, trying not to cry.

I felt overwhelmed and angry.

“Remember Luna Morgana from the Nightshade pack?” Theo asked quietly.

I nodded, still holding onto him, still trying to calm my heartbeat after everything that happened tonight.

But then he said something that made me break the hug.

“She heard what happened… and she’s afraid it’s not safe for you to stay here for a while.”

I froze.

Theo’s arms were still around me, but suddenly they felt distant. My fingers loosened against his shirt.

Slowly, I pulled back from the hug so I could see his face.

“What do you mean?”

Theo let out a long, slow sigh; át felt like the weight of it had been crushing him for hours.

“She’s suggesting you stay in Nightshade with then for some time while handle things here,” His voice softened lus eyes stated into miur protectively. “You are pregnant Kaia. It’s not good for you to be under

What would everyone think? This is so messed up.

My mouth parted, but nothing came out at first.

He wasn’t looking away; his eyes flashed with terror that he tried to hide from me.

I knew he was doing this because he was trying to protect me.

Still, it felt like I’d been punched in my throat.

“I… you want me to go?” I whispered.

“No,” he said instantly, grabbing my hands. “Kaia, no. I don’t want you to go. Gods, leaving you for even a minute feels like hell.”

His thumb brushed my knuckles, gently. His hands were trembling.

“But they targeted you before. They came through the back border. Before now, they left a message meant fo you. And now this symbol..”

His jaw clenched so tight the muscles shook.

“I can’t risk them coming for you again while I’m fighting whoever is behind this.”

I swallowed the hard lump in my throat.

“But I’ll be far away.” My voice cracked.

Theo closed the distance, pressing his forehead to mine.

“You’ll be safe.” His voice broke. “That’s all I care about. You and our baby.”

His hand slid to my stomach, and the gesture shattered me.

“Theo-” My breath shook. “I don’t want to leave you.”

“I don’t want you to,” he whispered back, voice raw, “but I’d rather be miserable than bury the woman I love.”

Silence swallowed us, and tears fell from my eyes.

My heart was brokeas by everything happening. I wasn’t going to let them win, no matter what.

Theo’s fingers lifted my chin gently.

“You’ll come back as soon as I clean this up. I promise you that.” Theo said, wiping a tear from my eye.

But in his eyes. I saw something he didn’t say out loud.

4te was an art and soured as I was, and that shattered me.

“Alright. I will do as you say I muttered wiping my tears. “But on one condition”

Theo nodded, waiting for me to say it.

“I will only be gone for a week,” I said. “I can’t stay away for longer than that. I’m the Luna of this pack. I can’t run away because of threats”

“I know, blue eyes,” Theo pulled me close. “And I appreciate you doing this. I know you don’t want this”

We hugged for a moment.

“I will tell anyone who asks that you had gone there on an official visit”

“Okay,” I nodded.

I was tired by the time it was bedtime. When I tried to sleep, I couldn’t sleep.

My mind was consumed by everything that happened in the day, and I felt restless.

When it finally came, it dragged me under like a whirlpool.

Suddenly, I found myself in a strange place.

At first, everything was dark. There was a suffocating fog in my path, and I couldn’t see anything.

Then I heard heavy steps approaching where I was, and that frightened me.

My breath hitched.

A man emerged through the mist. He was tall with broad shoulders, a hood pulled low.

But what froze my blood wasn’t the person. It was the symbol hanging from their neck.

The skull crest.

The same skull crest was carved onto the attacker’s cloth.

My heart plunged.

Before I could move, a rough hand grabbed my arm.

1 jerked backwards. “Let go! Let me go!”

My own voice sounded younger and trembling.

Like I wasn’t myself, it was a child.

The hooded figure said nothing, dragging me across the fog-filled ground.

1 clavend at the dirt, at anything that could hold me back.

“Please” 4 cried, kicking and fighting.

“I want my mommy! Please don’t take me! I want to go home!”

The fog swirled violently.

Another voice echoed in front of us. It was deep and dripping with

“You belong to us now.”

My lungs tightened.

I could feel my limbs shrinking; my strength was giving out the more I cried and begged.

I was a child in the dream.

“No. No, please-Mama!” I screamed. “Mama, help me!”

My fingers stretched toward a blurry silhouette far behind a woman running and reaching for me, screaming something I couldn’t hear.
