The packs outcast Luna (Kaia and Theo) novel Chapter 185

Chapter 185

–Draven–

Getting an order from Theo’s pack wasn’t the most shocking part of everything.

It was when I opened it that I found an interpack investigation order regarding Kaia’s banishment.

“After reviewing documents, testimonies and evidence. We believe that Kaia Nightshade was unlawfully banished. Further investigation is required”

The Shadowclaw council sent it, and it had their stamp on it, and they were serious about looking into Kaia

banishment.

They claimed she was unlawfully banished and didn’t deserve the punishment she got.

Unlawfully banished?

My jaw clenched so hard it ached.

“They must be out of their damned minds,” I muttered. “Who the hell do they think they are?” My rage boiled.

I thought Theo and I were friends, but he believed Kaia without hearing me out.

I wonder what kind of leash Kaia has him under. He was always quick to take her side, even when it was a murder attempt.

How could he think of getting his whole council involved and Troy to reopen Kaia’s case?

Scoffing in disgust, I crushed the paper in my fist and hurled it across the room, letting it smack against the

wall.

My chest burned with anger.

Who gave them the right to question my decision? To question our pack’s judgment?

Kaia got the punishment she deserved. At the end of the day, she tried to kill Liora, and there was proof.

But the fury burning through me wasn’t only aimed at the council. It was aimed at Theo.

I thought he was my friend and ally

But this? This felt like betrayal.

“He didn’t even bother to hear my side.” I growled under my breath

Of course, se didn’

I paced the room, rage simmering hotter with every step.

“I wonder what kind of leash she’s got him on.” I spat.

“Because the way he jumps for her? The way he chooses her every damn time? It’s pathetic.”

A bitter laugh slipped out.

Even when she did something so horrible and was banished for it, he still believed her.

Why? Why does he trust her so much when he barely knows her?

My fists tightened at my sides.

There is no reason to reopen the case. My mate would only get unnecessarily stressed, but at the same time can’t refuse Theo.

His pack and mine are aligned, and if something done in my pack is affecting his, he has a right to request a investigation.

I only wish he had talked to me about it first. Not just an official statement.

I tried to go about my day after this and focus on work, but I couldn’t.

The letter from the Shadowclaw Council kept replaying in my head long after I threw it across the room.

The order had mentioned that Kaia was unlawfully banished from my pack.

That was impossible because I clearly held a hearing for her, and she was declared guilty after the evidence and testimonies lined up against her.

Kaia could have been killed for attempting to harm another wolf, but I let go with a lighter punishment.

There could be a claim that improper conduct was involved

I paced the floor with my jaw clenched.

This was ridiculous.

It’s probably a mistake, because there is no way this is true

But then, as much as I would like to believe, I thought what was true.

I couldn’t help remembering Theo’s words when he punched me at the hotel,

He believed my love for Liora blinded me, and I wasn’t seeing the truth in front of me.

Laura’s voter crept into my head.

Clearly, she couldn’t be lying out what happened, right

Liora had cried, insisting she had seen everything and knew for a fact that the men were working with Kaia

I stopped pacing.

Because a thought popped into my head and I didn’t want to think about it.

But I couldn’t stop it anyway.

What if she didn’t? What if Liora wasn’t telling the truth, and I believed whatever she said?

I shook my head violently.

No. No, that was impossible.

Liora wouldn’t lie to me. She was loyal, sweet, and wanted nothing but the best for our family and me.

But something bothered me.

The council’s report mentioned timestamps that didn’t match Liora’s story.

Witness statements that put her nowhere near the border when the rogues attacked.

And then there was Theo.

Theo’s reaction shouldn’t matter to me, but it did.

He wasn’t a fool.

He wouldn’t risk backlash from his own pack members and council unless he believed something deeply.

And he believed that Kaia was innocent and someone framed her.

My stomach twisted in confusion.

A quiet voice in my mind whispered:

“What if Kaia wasn’t the villain?” My wolf whispered in my head, eagerly. What if you punished the wrong person?”

I slammed that idea away instantly. She must have done something.

“Liora wouldn’t lie,” I muttered to myself. She wouldn’t”

But even as I said it. I couldn’t convince myself to believe this version of the truth anymore,

It felt like it wasn’t real, and I was holding onto it, and I was afraid to hear the real truth.

My husal igncned

What if I believed her because it was easier than admitting Kaia was miserable because of my own actions ar selfishness?

My hands trembled.

If any part of that was true, and the real truth was twisted.

It would turn out that I didn’t just misjudge Kaia. I destroyed and banished her from her pack.

My action ruined her life and condemned her to death and destruction.

A pulse of nausea rolled through me.

“No,” I whispered, gripping the edge of the table.

“I made the right decision. I did.”

And for the first time since the banishment…

I felt something I hadn’t felt in years, Fear.

Because if Kaia wasn’t the monster. Then I was.

With a trembling hand, I contacted my private investigator and urged him to finish up the work I entrusted to

him.

I was desperately hoping the truth was exactly as it was.
