The packs outcast Luna (Kaia and Theo) novel Chapter 194

Chapter 194

Katya didn’t stop pulling me along until we got away from the main garden.

She dragged me through the winding garden paths, pointing out little things as we went.

“You’ll love it here,” she said, glancing back at me with a grin. “Once you ignore the overprotective warriors and my brother’s permanent bad mood.”

“I already like it,” I admitted.

And it was true, I really do like it here.

There was something about Nightshade that made me feel at home and loved.

Within a few hours of being here, I already felt like I was at home, and it was nice.

We reached the far end of the garden, where it felt like people rarely visited.

The air felt cooler here, and the place was quieter.

When she finally slowed down, I was almost breathless from jogging to catch up,

Katya walked slowly, and I stood by her side.

“This part isn’t used much,” she said. “Most people don’t come this far.”

“Why?” I asked.

She shrugged. “No real reason. Just old.”

I took a step forward, and something in my chest tightened.

A strange pull.

It felt like an invisible thread tugging me in and urging me to walk deep into the trees.

“Do you feel that?” I asked softly.

Katya frowned. “Feel what?”

“I don’t know, it’s just…” I placed a hand lightly over my chest. “Like something is calling out to me.”

She looked at me and didn’t say anything.

Then, she took my hand.

“Kaia,” she said carefully, “maybe we should head back-”

A twig snapped behind us.

We both turned to look, and there he was.

Miguel.

He was leaning casually against one of the trees with his arms crossed, watching us intensely.

He didn’t look surprised to see us, like he’d been there the whole time.

“Didn’t know this place was part of the tour,” he said lazily.

Katya groaned. “Seriously? Do you ever mind your business?”

He ignored her and set his eyes on me.

For some reason, his hatred towards me has increased, and I have no idea why.

“You shouldn’t be here,” he said.

My brows furrowed. “Why?”

“Because this part of the land isn’t for outsiders.”

Katya stepped in front of me slightly. “She’s not an outsider. She’s family.”

Miguel scoffed. “Since when?”

“Since I said so,” she snapped.

He didn’t even look at her. His gaze stayed locked on me.

“You feel it, don’t you?” he said suddenly.

My friend furrowed in confusion.

“What are you talking about?” I asked to confirm whether he was talking about the pull.

His expression shifted slightly.

“You feel like you are a part of our family now because Katya said so?” He asked, glaring at me angrily.

Before I could utter anything, Katya grabbed my hand.

“We’re leaving.” She said, pulling me along.

When we turned to leave, Miguel pushed off a branch of a tree and stepped closer.

“Interesting,” he muttered. “Very interesting.”

“What is?” I asked.

For a moment, it looked like he might say something worthy of attention.

But then his expression hardened again.

“Nothing you need to worry about,” he said seriously. “Just stay away from this area.”

Katya glared at him. “You don’t get to order her around.”

“I’m not ordering,” he replied calmly. “I’m warning her.”

A chill slid down my spine.

Looking at him, I realised Miguel wasn’t being a jerk; he was serious about what he was saying, and that caught my attention.

Katya tugged me away, clearly done with him.

“Ignore him,” she muttered under her breath. “He thinks everything is some kind of conspiracy.”

But as we walked away, I couldn’t help it.

I glanced back.

Miguel was still standing there, watching me, and our eyes met.

Maybe I was overthinking it, but I felt like he was hiding something and didn’t want me to find out.

Thinking of this, my heart shuddered.

Katya didn’t speak until we were completely out of Miguel’s sight.

When we reached the main garden area, Katya sat on the bench and gently pulled me to sit with her.

For a moment, she just stared at her hands. She looked upset, and I could understand why.

“Kaia…” she said finally, exhaling softly. “I didn’t bring you here to allow Miguel to upset you. I brought you because this place… it means something to us.”

I turned to her, sensing the sudden heaviness in her voice.

Katya tucked her hair behind her ear, her eyes distant.

“This part of the garden was made for someone,” she said. “Someone we lost.”

My heart tightened, and I turned to her.

“Who was it?” I asked quietly. “A family member?”

She nodded, biting back tears, and my heart broke for her.

“My sister.”

I froze. Theo once mentioned that Alpha Mathew lost a daughter, but hearing it from Katya made my heart feel heavy.

“She was taken when she was still a child, and we never found her,” she continued, sadly. My parents tried everything they could, but we never found her. The kidnappers never called us to place a random order. Nothing.”

Her throat bobbed as she swallowed.

“My mom likes to pretend she’s fine. She talks and smiles and leads like nothing ever happened, but…” Katya’s voice cracked. “But the truth is she’s broken inside. What happened to my Ster broke her.”

Emotion rushed through me, pain that wasn’t mine but felt like it could’ve been.

Katya brushed a tear off her cheek and gave a small, sad laugh.

“I’m the loud one in the family, you know? The happy one. I try to be because someone has to be. But there are days…” She looked at the flowers around us.

“..days when the pack feels too heavy, and the sadness of the incident weighs down on our family. So my parents built this place, a safe place they could go. Somewhere they could grieve without everyone watching.”

She took a slow breath.

“They come here on her birthday. They sit exactly where we’re sitting now.”

She paused, her finger trembling.

“And they talk to her, crit and laugh over the memories they have of her”

I swallowed hard. My chest was tight, and I let out a shaky breath.

I didn’t know why, but the pain in her voice felt like it was tugging on a part of me buried too.

“What was her name?” I asked softly.

Katya shook her head.

“We never say it aloud. Mom said names bind us, and she couldn’t bear saying hers if she wasn’t here.”

My heartbeat stuttered.

Katya let out a trembling breath and leaned her head on my shoulder.
