Chapter 193
–Kaia–
I jerked awake, trembling with fear.
My heart was beating fast, and I looked around. The place was unfamiliar, and I got scared.
After panting for a while, I calmed down and realised I was in my room at the Nightshade pack.
El 55 YouTONESS
I had a nightmare again, and this time, it felt more real than the previous times I’ve had the same nightmare.
I struggled sluggishly out of bed and got ready. While I was getting dressed, a knock sounded at my door.
“Good morning, my lady, I’m Lola. I will assist you while you are here.” It was an omega; she smiled brightly at me. “The Luna is waiting at the breakfast table, and she asked if you could join her”
I wanted to stay back in my room and rest, but I considered it would be rude to reject an invite from the luna.
“Tell the luna, I will join her soon,” I answered, “I just need to finish up”
“See you at the table, Luna Kaia”, Lola said sweetly and left.
I watched until she was gone, and I returned to getting ready.
I pressed my hand to my belly and felt my baby frowning inside of me.
A sense of sadness washed over me, thinking about how we had to leave our home because of the attackers and the attacks they are planning against the Shadowclaw pack.
My pup deserves a safe place to grow up in, and I will make sure the Shadowclaw pack will be that place for her.
I got ready and went downstairs.
When I got there, the luna and Alpha were seated. For now, it was just the two of them. I knew I couldn’t escape seeing Miguel again, and I felt awkward just thinking about it.
“Oh, Luna Kaia,” Luna Morgana’s delighted voice rang across the dining hall the moment I stepped inside.
She called out to me ecstatically, and I smiled as I walked to them.
I couldn’t help smiling as I walked toward them. Her energy was impossible not to soften my heart. It felt as if she was sharing her motherly love with me.
“Good morning, Luna Morgana. Alpha Nightshade,” I greeted respectfully, bowing my head slightly. “I’m sorry I’m late.”
Morgana waved her hand dramatically, as if batting the apology away like an annoying fly.
“Oh, please, child, you’re pregnant, not a soldier on duty,” she huffed. “You could come at noon, and I would still say you’re early.”
Alpha Nightshade chuckled behind his cup, amused.
“She’s been pacing since sunrise waiting for you,” he murmured.
“I have not,” Morgana argued, though she absolutely had. “I merely wanted to make sure she slept well.”
I felt my cheeks warm.

“I did sleep well,” I lied gently.
Morgana’s eyes softened, as if she sensed the small crack beneath my words but chose not to say anything.

“Well,” she said briskly, looping her arm through mine, “you’re here now, and that means we can finally eat. I made sure the cooks prepared things you actually like. Theo sent me an entire list.”
Alpha Nightshade groaned. “He sent three lists.”
“Because he’s a responsible future father,” Morgana snapped playfully. “Unlike you, who fainted when I told you I was pregnant.”
Alpha Nightshade set his cup down with dignity.
“I did not faint. I fell with purpose; it was a sign of joy.”
I laughed, I didn’t know when I let out an actual, and Morgana beamed, clearly pleased with herself.
She guided me to a seat beside her.
“Come, Luna Kaia,” she said warmly. “You’re family here. No more bowing and no more apologies. Just eat, rest, and let us take care of you.”
For a moment, I felt like I belonged in their family
I felt protected and loved, even if it was only for a moment, and I felt the feeling of having a family.
For now, I let myself breathe.
I settled beside Morgana, and she began piling my plate with a little bit of everything before I could protest.
Alpha Nightshade only shook his head fondly, like a man long resigned to his mate’s habits.
“Eat,” Morgana insisted. “If not for you -” she tapped my wrist lightly, “..for the little one.”
I smiled shyly and picked up my fork.
forcing my shoulders to relax, I began to eat.
“So,” Morgana began casually, “Theo called at dawn.”
My hand stilled for a second, just long enough for her to notice.
“He just wanted to be sure you arrived safely,” she continued gently. “The man is worried sick about you.”
My heart pulled tight.
“He worries too much,” I whispered.
“He loves you a lot,” she corrected. “You can’t blame the man, look at you, you’re adorable”
Before I could respond, I looked out, and saw warriors walking past the open hall doors.
Two took posts at opposite ends of the hallway. Another patrolled outside the windows, eyes sharp.
“That’s… a lot of security.” I frowned subtly.
Alpha Nightshade cleared his throat, lifting his head from his plate.

“Theo updated us on the situation,” he said, firmly. “We’re not taking any chances.”

“You’re safe here,” Morgana added, squeezing my hand. “Whatever or whoever is after you, they’ll have to get through all of Nightshade first.”
The reassurance should have calmed me.
Instead, the image of that skull crest flickered through my mind again.
I swallowed.
“Luna Morgana,” I said quietly, “thank you. I don’t want to be a burden.”
She clicked her tongue sharply.
“Nonsense. Your family. And besides, my home has been too quiet. I adore Theo, but that boy is a little too serious. Having another person to fuss over is a blessing.”
Alpha Nightshade snorted into his cup.
“She’s been redecorating the guest wing for two days straight.”
Morgana ignored him.
“Finish your food. After breakfast, I’ll give you a massage. And then you’re resting, I won’t have you fainting on my watch.”
I smiled again, my heart rippled with joy.
But as I lifted my fork, a shadow flickered past the far window. Probably a guard.
My skin prickled.
Morgana noticed the shift in my expression.
“Kaia?” she asked quietly.
I shook my head. “It’s nothing. I’m just trying to get used to the new environment.”
She rubbed my shoulder in slow, comforting circles.
“Take your time, you’ll get used to them too,” she reassuringly said, and I nodded.
I faced my food, eating my Breakfast when Morgana clapped her hands lightly.
“Ah, perfect timing,” she said, looking toward the entrance. “You two are late.”
I turned just as two figures walked in.
Katya walked in, and her eyes popped up. When they landed on me, they immediately lit up.
“Kaia?” she said, almost breathless.
I nodded, a little surprised.
Before I could say anything, she rushed forward and pulled me into a quick, gentle hug.
“I had no idea you got here already,” she said, beaming as she pulled back.
Her warmth was instant and I was stunned.

I didn’t remember her being this friendly the last time we met, right?
“It’s nice to see you again,” I said, smiling.
“Nice?” she scoffed playfully. “No, no. You’re basically family. That makes this very nice.”
Morgana looked entirely pleased with that.
“That’s my girl,” she said proudly.
Katya slid into the seat beside me without hesitation, already reaching for food.

“You must be exhausted,” she said, lowering her voice slightly. “Travelling while pregnant? I would’ve complained the entire way.”
I laughed softly. “I wanted to, but I didn’t.”
“Well, that’s your first mistake,” she grinned. “Around here, we complain loudly and eat more to recover.”
While Katya chatted loudly with me, Miguel walked in.
His gaze swept over me slowly, assessingly. He looked unimpressed, almost annoyed, by my presence, and I knew why.
“What is she doing here?” he asked, almost bored.
Katya rolled her eyes immediately. “Ignore him.”
But Miguel didn’t stop.
“The infamous Luna,” he continued, crossing his arms. “Causing trouble across packs without even trying.”
I straightened slightly, meeting his gaze.
“I didn’t come here to cause trouble,” I said calmly.
“Funny,” he let out a dry laugh. “Trouble seems to follow you anywhere you go!
“Miguel,” Morgana warned.
But he barely acknowledged her.
Instead, his eyes flicked briefly to my stomach, then back to my face.
Something unreadable passed through his expression.
“Let’s just hope Nightshade doesn’t end up paying for it,” he muttered.
Katya slammed her fork down.
“Okay, that’s enough,” she snapped. “What is your problem?”
“My problem?” Miguel scoffed. “I’m just being realistic. We don’t even know—”
“Stop,” Alpha Nightshade cut in firmly.
That did it. Miguel went silent, his jaw tightening.
But his eyes stayed on me.

He looked at me with his cold and disdainful eyes, as if he was shooting daggers at me.
Katya turned back to me immediately, her expression soft again.
“Please don’t mind him,” she said sincerely. “He’s been in a terrible mood for days now. It has nothing to do with you.”
I nodded, even though I wasn’t entirely sure that was true.
Miguel didn’t look like someone who was just in a bad mood.
He looked like someone who knew something, or thought he did.
Morgana reached for my hand again, grounding me.
“Im sorry about Miguel, please ignore him,” she said firmly.
I nodded at Morgana, but I was still annoyed by Miguel’s antics, and I planned to put him in his place later.
“Come on,” Katya whispered, grabbing my hand the moment breakfast ended. “Before my brother ruins the entire day with his attitude.”
I let out a small laugh as she pulled me out of the dining hall.
“Where are we going?” I asked.
“You’ll see.”
She led me through the long corridors of the Nightshade packhouse until we stepped out into a garden tucked behind the main building.
It was beautiful.
“It’s my favourite place,” Katya said, finally letting go of my hand. “Here, I don’t have to worry about anything happening. Just a peaceful place to relax”
I nodded slowly, taking it in.
“It’s… really nice.”
“I come here when Miguel gets unbearable,” she added dryly.
That made me smile.
We sat on the bench, and for a moment, neither of us spoke. The silence wasn’t awkward, though
Katya glanced at me, studying my face.
“You’re not just tired,” she said gently.
I hesitated.
“You don’t have to tell me anything,” she added quickly. “I just cannot tell.”
She made me loosen my guard just a little.
“I think…” I exhaled slowly. “I think I’m just overwhelmed.”
“That makes sense,” she nodded. “New pack. New people. Pregnancy. And…” she hesitated, lowering her voice, “everything else going on.”
