Chapter 27

–Kiara–

I’ve changed dresses three times.

The first was too formal, the second too revealing. The third… the third was too bright. Or so I told myself.

I stand in front of the mirror, trying on the outfit. Smoothing it over repeatedly.

Until I realized I wasn’t really fixing anything.

Just nervous.

I looked at myself in the mirror – calm on the outside, chaos stumbling inside.

The Moon Goddess must’ve been laughing somewhere.

A rogue. A traitor. About to stand beside an Alpha again.

Today is my Alpha Acceptance ceremony and I can’t help feeling nervous.

I had decided to join Alpha Theo’s pack.

Miracles like these doesn’t come by easily.

I should be glad, someone is willing to take in an exiled Luna of another pack.

Not everyone is generously willing to take in outcasts.

Especially ex-Lunas,who were deemed traitors.

He’s risking everything for me.

Everything.

A soft knock came.

“Come in,” I said, trying to sound like I wasn’t suffocating.

Maliya slipped in, her curls bouncing, arms full of folded clothes.

Smiling, she approached me.

She looks like a sunshine trapped in a maid’s uniform. Always too cheerful for someone surrounded by people with egos larger than the pack itself.

“Still not ready?” she teased. “The whole pack’s practically holding their breath out there.”

“I just need a minute.”

She set the clothes aside and gave me a long, knowing look.

“You’ve been saying that for an hour, Kaia” she looked at me. “Do you need my help with anything?”

I sighed, crossing my arms. “It’s not every day someone swears loyalty to a man who could probably snap their neck in one hand.”

She grinned. “Oh please. He looks at you like you’re the moon itself. Half the pack already thinks you bewitched him.”

That pulled a reluctant smile from me. “Did they also say what happens if the witch gets it wrong?”

“Then the Alpha banishes her, and the Beta leads her out of the pack” Maliya winked. “You’ll be fine, Kaia. You’re different. We all knows it. Alpha Theo doesn’t play about you”

Different.

That word used to hurt. Tonight, it almost felt like armor.

I exhaled slowly. “Maliya… do you think this is right? That I’m doing the right thing?”

Her teasing softened immediately. “You mean accepting him as your Alpha?”

I nodded, my voice low. “He’s been kind. Fair. But I keep wondering if I’m… if I’m using him to get what I want. To run away from something that already broke me.”

Maliya tilted her head, stepping closer. “You’re not using anyone, Kaia. You’re surviving. And maybe just maybe you’re finally choosing someone who deserves your loyalty.”

I let out a humorless laugh. “You say that like loyalty ever protected me.”

“It’s not loyalty that failed you,” she said quietly. “It’s the people who didn’t deserve it.”

That silenced me.

Maliya smiled again, gentler this time. “You’ve carried too much blame. Tonight isn’t about what you lost,it’s about what you can still claim.

I nodded.

She has a point.

Maybe, this is my chance to get my life together again.

When Maliya left, I sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the flickering light spilling from the chandelier.

If this bond was real… if accepting him as my Alpha meant more than formality, could it quench the ache that had lived inside me since Silvermoon?

I pressed a hand to my chest, where my wolf used to sleep – dormant, silent,

Just once, I wanted to feel her again.

A low chime rang from the courtyard.

Time.

I stood up slowly, clutching my long white dress.

I don’t know why I chose white but it feels so right.

:

My legs runs into each other as I walked out of the room.

Thundering.

I could heart my heart pounding in my chest.

“I hope the goddess is watching. Maybe this time, you won’t abandon me like you did before”

Moon Garden

I walked into the Moon garden, a ceremonial place where the pack gathers for important activities.

And my Alpha Acceptance is one those activities.

The pack stands in a wide circle, with Theo waiting in the centre.

The moon is full, spilling out.

I walked into the centre, standing in front of Theo.

I stood before Theo, my pulse steady but my breathing shaking with nervousness.

It feels as if I’m drowning under the watchful eyes of a lot of the pack members.

Who came to bear witness tonight.

Theo’s voice was low but steady.

“Kaia of no pack, do you swear your loyalty to me, Alpha of Shadowclaw, and to this pack -To protect, serve and to fight as one?”

Theo reached for my hand. His grip was warm, grounding. “Kaia. Do you accept me as your Alpha. To stand with my pack, as one of us?”

My throat tightened. I should’ve been stronger than this, but I couldn’t stop myself from shaking

I lifted my chin, meeting his gaze.

His eyes glowed faintly gold. Not dominance, not demand, but something deeper.

“I swear it,” I said softly. “To you,and to Shadowclaw Pack”

The moment the words left my lips, something inside me stirred.

A rush, a heartbeat that wasn’t just mine. A howl deep within.

My knees almost buckled. My breath caught.

Feels as if the world tilted. Causing me to spin.

For the first time in years, I felt it.

I felt a wild awaking, something attracting it’s way to the surface.

Wild. Animalistic. Powerful.

“Theo,” I whispered, gripping his arm.

I feel my face slipping away,my eyes blurring.

Theo hold me tight, his hand steadied her, eyes wide. “Kaia? What’s wrong”

Then it happened.

For the first time in years, I felt her.

My wolf.

She purred like something long caged, stretching against the walls of my chest.

A single word echoed through my head, ragged and beautiful:

Finally.

I gasped, and the Elders stepped back, murmuring.

Theo’s hand tightened on mine, alarmed. “Kaia? Should I call a doctor?”

“I-” I swallowed hard, eyes wide. “I felt her.”

He looked at me awed, disbelieving. “Your wolf?”

And then…

A slow clap echoed from the edge of the circle.

Every head turned.

They turned to the direction of the clap to see the intruder.

Theo went still beside me.

“Theo,” she purred, her smile practiced and fake. “Aren’t you going to introduce me to your new… pack

:

The entire courtyard fell silent.

I blinked, caught off guard by her boldnessand the way Theo’s jaw clenched, muscles pulling like he was barely holding back his anger.

He moved before I could speak, striding toward her. “You shouldn’t be here.”

“Why not?” she asked innocently, tilting her head. “Don’t you think it’s rude to ignore an old friend?”

“Leave.” His voice dropped, Alpha-deep, dark with warning.

The woman laughed, brushing invisible dust from her sleeve. “Still the same temper. Tell me, Theo does she know what

you did?”

Something in his face flickered. Pain? Rage? Both.

I didn’t understand what was happening. I couldn’t tell who the woman was and why she was here but she seemed close to Theo.

And now, she interrupted the ceremony.

Theo grabbed her wrist, dragging her away from the crowd.

The whispers followed them, the pack members mourning among themselves.

I stood there, frozen, heart still pounding with the echo of my wolf’s awakening.

Zane approached quietly. “Are you okay?”

I nodded or tried to.

“Yeah,” I whispered, eyes still on the door where Theo had vanished.

But I wasn’t okay.

Because for the first time since I came here, the thought crept in like frost:

Maybe, I really don’t know Theo at all.

And maybe,I wasn’t the only one with a ghost.

Turns out Theo has his own buried too.
