Chapter 38
–Elara–
Cara strode into the guest lounge like a storm wrapped in royalty.
I stood up from the sofa immediately.
If her expression was anything to go by, she’d already confronted Kaia.
Good.
“Close the door,” Cara said.
I obeyed.
She didn’t sit. She didn’t smile. She paced. small, precise steps that reflected her irritation.
“She spoke to me,” Cara began stiffly, “as though she were my equal.”
I blinked. “Kaia?”

“Yes.” Cara’s nostrils flared, cheeks taut. “The stray girl thinks saving the King gives her the right to… challenge
me.”
A thrill of satisfaction slid through me.
Perfect.
The more Kaia pushed back, the easier she was to paint as trouble.
And with Cara on her neck, I won’t have to do much.
“What did she say?” I asked softly.
“That Shadowclaw is her home now.” Cara spat the word out like it was poison on her tongue. “As if she belongs here.”
I masked my smile with a gasp. “That’s bold of her.”
Cara stopped pacing and faced me.
“This can’t continue. She’s gaining sympathy – even from people who should know better.”
“Like Theo,” I murmured.
Cara’s jaw tightened.
There. Found the wound.

“She already has his attention,” I continued carefully. “If we let this spread, she could become… powerful.”
Cara inhaled sharply, fury flickering in her eyes.
“She won’t. I won’t allow it.”
A pause.
Then Cara’s tone shifted. colder, more calculated.
“Elara,” she said, “your rumor was effective. They’re already whispering.”
I bowed my head. “It was the least I could do.”
“But we need to push harder. We can do better”
My heart raced. This was the moment.
“What do you need me to do?”
Cara came closer until her perfume, something sharp and expensive, filled my senses.
“You will isolate her.” Cara muttered.
“In what way?” I raised a brow
“All ways,” Cara said. “Friends. Training. Reputation. Every door she approaches, you shut it. Every ally she tries to make, you poison it. I want her surrounded by shadows until none of the wolves pitied her.”
A chill ran through me.
Cara wasn’t angry anymore. She was scheming.
“And then?” I asked.
Cara’s lips curved slightly, a smile not meant for kindness crept into it.
“And then we give the pack something they truly can’t forgive. A mistake. A scandal. Something Kaia cannot defend herself from.”
My pulse quickened. “You want to frame her.”
“Not want,” Cara corrected. “Need.”
Silence stretched between us.
A dangerous agreement formed in between our silence.
Cara straightened her coat, getting rid of invisible wrinkles.
“Start tomorrow. I’ll handle the official channels trainers, advisors, anyone with rank. You handle the social

side.”

“And Theo?” I asked, voice low.
Cara’s eyes sharpened.”Leave him to me.”
A hard lump tightened my throat.
:
She wasn’t just going to sabotage Kaia. She intended to turn Theo against her completely.
I smirked. This is exactly what I wanted.
Of course, I’m excited for it.
Cara opened the door, paused, and looked back.
“Let’s make sure Kaia regrets ever stepping foot into Shadowclaw.”

“You didn’t have to say it, Cara” I chuckled. “Its my pleasure to make sure Kaia regrets. Gladly, I’ll do it”
The door clicked shut behind her.
And the war officially began.
–Kaia–
I stayed on the edge of the training ground, watching the warriors.
The training grounds were busier than usual.
Warriors were sparring, trainees shouting instructions, the sharp clang of metal echoing across the field.
I’d just thrown my fiftieth punch when a shout cut through the noise.
“Jace! Jace, what’s wrong? breathe-someone help!”
My head snapped up and I turned sharply.
Jace, a young but skilled warrior-in-training- suddenly collapsed. His whole body convulsed violently, his limbs jerking uncontrollably,
Gasps rippled through the crowd.
People froze.
And a few stepped back away from him.
“Is this happening again?” Someone murmured.
Someone shouted, “He’s having the fits again! Someone get the medic!”

I didn’t think. I didn’t have the time.
My body just moved on its own.
“Move back….Give him some space,” I ordered sharply, dropping beside him.

Warriors scrambled away in shock not because they knew me, but because someone actually took control.
Jace’s muscles were spasming hard, foam gathering at the corner of his lips.
I gently turned him on his side, checking his pulse, then pressed two fingers to a pressure point at the base of his neck.
“His airway is closing,” I muttered. “He’s choking on his tongue.I need something to stabilize him. Get me some water, a cloth -anything.”
A trainee hurried to hand me a water bottle.
I tore a strip of cloth from my sleeve and used it to keep his head steady, murmuring softly to him.
“Stay with me… just breathe…”
After a few tense seconds, I stopped.
I knew seizures like this could last minutes or steal lives.
I placed both palms on his cheeks and whispered a small invocation under her breath.
A healer’s trick my grandmother taught me before everything fell apart.
A warmth spread from her fingers.
Jace’s jerking slowed….and stopped.
The entire training yard went silent.
I exhaled in relief and checked him again.
“He’s breathing normally now. He’ll be exhausted, but he’s okay.”
A huge warrior – Captain Alaric, one of the most respected in Theo’s forces stepped forward, eyes wide.
“Jace-!” He dropped beside his son, cupping the boy’s face. “Son… are you alright?”
Jace, groggy but conscious, managed, “Dad… she helped me.”
Captain Alaric turned to me.
For a moment he looked stunned. Then something shifted in his expression; something humbled and grateful.

“You-” his voice broke, just slightly. “You saved my boy. “You-you stopped it,” he said in disbelief. “He usually needs an injection to get out of an episode.”
I didn’t know what to say. I shook my head. “He would’ve been fine. I just… helped stabilize him. That’s all.”
Alaric shook his head.
“No.” Alaric gently cut me off.. “That wasn’t ‘just.’ You saved him. What you did… No ordinary healer can do it”
And then something unexpected happened.
In front of the entire warrior troop, Captain Alaric bowed his head to me.
Gasps rippled through the onlookers.
A warrior. A high-ranking one.
Bowing to me. Respectfully. Publicly.
“Thank you,” he said quietly. “From this day on, if you ever need anything you must come to me.”
Gasps spread through the crowd. The pack members whispered, glaring at me.
“That’s Captain Alaric…”
“He actually bowed to her?”
“She saved his son….”
“That means she’s earned his protection.”
“Maybe she’s not what they were saying…”
Overwhelmed. I felt my throat tighten. “I didn’t do it for anything in return.”
“I know,” Alaric replied. “That’s why you have my respect.”
He placed a hand on my shoulder.
“If you ever need anythin…protection, a witness, support or anything at all, come to me or my son. You have it.”
I felt her chest tighten.
For the first time in a long while….Everyone looked at me with admiration.
Not judgment. Just admiration
