The packs outcast Luna (Kaia and Theo) novel Chapter 45

Chapter 45

–Kaia–

:

When I woke up, the first thing I saw were the missed calls from Theo.

The moment I saw them my stomach dropped.

Why would he call me that many times?

At that hour?

Something had to be wrong.

I didn’t even think.

I ran.

My feet barely touched the floors as I raced through the corridor, my heart hammering wildly against my chest.

If he was hurt, if something happened, if…

I didn’t finish the thought.

I reached his door and pushed it open without knocking.

“Theo–?”

He was standing in the middle of his room, hair messy, shirt half-buttoned… and a bright smear of lipstick marked the corner of his jaw.

I froze.

I saw the world tilted.

Not just lipstick, several smudges, faint fingerprints on his collar like someone had held his face.

A woman’s perfume clung to the air, sweet and sugary.

My heartbeat went silent. I felt a pang of jealousy gripped me.

He noticed my stare and immediately rubbed his jaw.

“Kaia….wait it’s not.. it’s not what you think.”

My throat tightened painfully.

I hated how jealousy stabbed me, sharp and uncontrollable.

Chapter 45

:

“I saw your calls,” I managed. “I thought you were in trouble.”

His expression twisted in guilt. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to make you worry.”

“Right,” I whispered, looking anywhere but his mouth. “Well… you look fine.”

I turned to leave before my voice cracked

but I didn’t make it three steps.

A sugary, triumphant voice cut through the hallway.

“Well, well, isn’t this interesting.”

Elara.

Of course. Who else would it be if not her.

She strutted toward us. Her eyes gleaming the moment she saw me standing there beside Theo and the lipstick on him.

“Oh,” she gasped dramatically, hand to her chest.

“So the rumors were TRUE.”

I stiffened.

“What rumors?” I asked tightly.

She sneered. “That you’re a desperate little stray trying to claw your way into Theo’s bed.”

Her eyes flicked to his jaw. “And clearly, you’ve been… working hard.”

My chest clenched so hard it hurt to breathe.

“Elara,” Theo snapped, voice sharp. “Stop. What the hell do you think you’re doing?”

But she wasn’t done.

“Honestly,” she said with a cold laugh, “I didn’t believe it at first. But seeing you here, at his door, with lipstick all over his neck? Pathetic.”

My stomach twisted. My vision blurred for half a second.

I hated how much it hurt and I hated that she could see how her words hurt me.

I swallowed, lifted my chin, and walked past her.

Not because she was right, but because if I stayed one second longer, I was going to shatter.

I didn’t look at Theo when I said, “I’ll stay out of your way.”

Chapter 45

:

And then I walked out. Fast.

Before either of them could see the emotion burning behind my eyes.

–Theo–

“Elara,” I said, my voice burning with low fury, “what the hell is wrong with you?”

She blinked innocently. “I just told the truth. She was practically-”

“Shut up.”

Her mouth snapped closed.

“You don’t get to talk about Kaia like that,” I growled. “Ever.”

“But look at her-”

“Elara.”

I stepped closer, letting my anger bleed into my voice.

“One more word about Kaia, and you will to answer me.”

For the first time, something like fear flickered across her face.

Good.

I didn’t wait for her reply.

I shoved past her and ran after Kaia. But she was gone.

Completely gone.

I tried to smell her but her smell disappeared immediately.

She must have been so hurt that she ran away in pain.

This is all my fault, I made her run.

I dragged a hand through my hair and cursed under my breath.

I had to find her and explain everything to her.

I needed to tell her that the lipstick wasn’t what she thought.

I have to let her know that I didn’t let Elara or any other woman touch me.

Kaia. You’re the only woman I want. I swear.

But she was nowhere in sight.

And for the first time in a long damn while-I panicked.

When I turned around Elara was still standing in my room, aggrieved.

“What?” I raised a brow. “What are you waiting for? Leave my room”

“Theo,” her voice cracked. “Why are you doing this to me? Don’t you remember everything you and I shared?”

Elara looked at me,her face slightly pale as if she was about to cry.

“I remember everything,Elara.” I step closer, facing her. “All the more reason why I don’t want anything to do with you anymore”

“You don’t understand-”

“I don’t want to understand,” I muttered. “Please leave now”

Elara shook.

She looked at my eyes burning with rage. Then, she made a run for the door.

Turning back to steal one last glance at me before leaving.

I have to go look for Kaia and talk to her.

The only place to find her at this time is the training field.

That’s where I’ll go to get her.

***

–Kaia–

When I left Theo’s room, I rushed out for training.

I had to keep myself busy since I’m not allowed at the clinic for now.

The moment I stepped into the training field, I knew something was wrong.

People pretended not to see me at first.

They looked at each other, then at me, then quickly away.

Ugly ripple whispers clung to my ears.

I forced my shoulders back.

Fine. Let them stare. Let them whisper. I’d survived worse.

But then I actually heard it.

“…heard she’s only here because she’s good in bed…”

“Alpha must be bored”

“Powerless wolf, no lineage, who even let her stay here?”

“You’re so naive. Of course, she slept her way through”

My breath caught.

A cold, familiar rage coiled behind my ribs. This wasn’t normal gossip.

This was a coordinated attack against me by Cara and Elara.

I swallowed hard and kept walking.

Pretending I didn’t hear any of it, acting like my chest wasn’t aching.

But it hit harder when one girl sneered just loud enough for me to hear.

“She probably seduced him. It’s the only way someone like her”

“… You need to mind your business,” I saw Alisha snarled.

My heart ached when I saw her. Apart from Maliya, Alisha is the only friend I have here.

Who didn’t think I was as bad as they say.

“What?” The girl exclaimed.

Alisha’s voice shook, but she didn’t back down. “I said what I said. She’s done nothing wrong?”

A second voice scoffed. “Defending her? Why? Planning to join her on Theo’s bed?”

My throat tightened when the two female warriors crowded Alisha, pushing her back against the wall.

“She’s a stray,” the taller girl spat. “A whore who thinks she can climb into the Alpha’s bed and steal the Luna title.”

“And you’re defending her?” the other sneered. “You must be desperate too.”

Alisha lifted her chin, tiny but fierce.

“She saved captain Alaric’s son,” she snapped. “None of you even moved.”

“Oh, please,” one hissed. “Trying to play hero to impress a man, classic whore tactic.”

“Stop calling her that,” Alisha said, her voice trembling.

I felt something inside me twist. Hard.

Chapter 45

:

The insults didn’t hurt me as much as…this.

Someone is getting attacked because of me.

Because she stood up for me.

:

I stepped forward before they could hurt Alisha anymore.

“That’s enough.” Their heads turned to me.

Alisha looked relieved to see me.

The warriors didn’t hide their disgust for me.

“She shows up right on cue,” one muttered. “Probably can’t wait to cry on Alpha’s shoulders to play victim.”

I ignored them and walked straight to Alisha, placing myself between her and the others.

“You okay?” I asked softly.

She nodded, but I saw the way her hands shook.

I turned to the two women, keeping my voice low but steady.

“If you have something to say to me, say it to my face. Leave her out of it.”

The taller one crossed her arms. “Oh, so you can stand up for yourself. Surprising.”

“Unfortunately,” the other added, “the rest of us have to clean up the messes you make.”

“Whores don’t deserve any regards

,

A growl ripped across the training field.

It didn’t come from me.

A deep, furious, unmistakable growl.

My heart stumbled. I turned to look.

Theo stood behind us. And he looked murderous.

His eyes were glowing- stormy, dangerous like he was two seconds from shifting right there.

His jaw was clenched so tight I could see the muscle ticking.

Everyone went silent.

“What,” Theo said, “did you just say?”

The girl paled instantly. “A-Alpha…. I didn’t… I wasn’t-”

Theo took a step forward.

She stumbled back.

“Say it again.” His voice was cold as ice.

Everyone in the training filed their breaths.

“I-I wasn’t talking about Kaia-”

“Yes,” Theo snapped, “you were.”

My stomach twisted.

:

This…this was exactly what I didn’t want. Not like this. Not him defending me like I was something fragile.

“Alpha Theo,” I said sharply. “Stop.”

He ignored me.

“Anyone else want to open their mouth about her?” Theo growled, glaring across the crowd. “Go on. Try me.”

God. My heart thundered. Whether from the fury in him or his protectiveness, I don’t know.

Maybe both.

I stepped in front of him, forcing him to look at me instead of them.

“Alpha Theo,” I said quietly, “this isn’t helping.”

His chest rose and fell, too fast. He was beyond angry. Beyond reason.

“Kaia, they shouldn’t-”

“It doesn’t matter.” I forced the words out. “Let it go.”

He stared at me, eyes flicking over my face like he was checking if I was okay.

And that made it worse.

I hated how much I wanted that concern. And I hated that everyone could see it.

I took a step back. “Alpha Theo… please.”

He exhaled slowly as if he was trying to pull himself back from the edge.

“Fine,” he muttered. “But we’re talking. Now.”

“No. Alpha Theo” I shook my head.

“No. Theo” I shook my head, moving away.

Chapter 45

He took a step toward me. I immediately stepped back.

The pain that flashed in his eyes almost broke me.

“Kaia,” he said, “don’t pull away.”

But I already was. And I hated myself for it.

But I can’t help it.

But I couldn’t stand there under all those watchful and judgemental eyes, waiting for me to slip up.

“I’m going to my room,” I said quietly. “I don’t want to stir up more trouble.”

And before he could say anything else,I turned and walked away.

But my chest felt tight. A little too tight.

The rumors were terrifying enough but the way Theo looked at me just now?

That terrified me more.
