The packs outcast Luna (Kaia and Theo) novel Chapter 59

Chapter 59

–Kaia–

The entire pack felt different.

I didn’t need to be told something felt different the moment I stepped out of my room.

It was the next morning after Theo publicly declared me as his Luna.

The air felt refreshed.

It wasn’t hostile anymore, not a little.

Just watchful.

Everywhere I walked, the pack members whispered about me.

They turned to look at me twice. Some people bowed their heads slightly, others stared openly, like they were trying to figure out if what they’d heard last night was real.

Theo called me his Luna.

The title still sat heavy on my chest.

Too big. And maybe heavy too.

It all came as a shock to me. I’ve never dreamt I’d be Theo’s mate, but he claimed I am.

I tightened my grip on the jacket around my shoulders and kept walking, pretending their gazes didn’t burn.

I arrived at the training field and worked hard on my drills with Captain Alaric.

Theo still wasn’t available to coach me yet. Training with Captain Alaric turned out to be quite enjoyable.

He made me laugh and wasn’t uptight with me.

I felt good and trained harder.

After my morning training, I grabbed my jacket and was about to leave.

Then, suddenly.

Someone stepped directly into my path.

Lucien..

Theo’s younger brother. I’ve heard so much about him from pack gossip.

“Well… Well. If not the most famous stray,” Lucien leaned in slightly. “I hear you’ve been stirring up trouble

already.”

I looked at him calmly, straightening my spine.

:

“Only where necessary. I don’t meddle in what doesn’t concern me.” I exhaled.

Lucien clicked his tongue; he looked amused.

“Mm. You say that… but trouble always seems to find you, doesn’t it?” Lucien asked, chuckling.

He left where he was standing and stepped closer, too close, invading my space in a way that felt intentional, a little predatory too.

I didn’t move back.

Lucien tilted his head, eyes narrowing like he was studying something on my skin.

Sniffing for weaknesses

“You know… I actually came to check on you.” Lucien flashed me a smile, which looked fake to me. “You’ve recently been saddled with a new position, new… expectations. Transitions can be overwhelming.”

I didn’t even blink. “If you’re looking to manipulate me, you’ll need to put in more effort than that.”

Lucien chuckled, seemingly neither offended nor entertained, but amused.

He stepped closer, lowering his voice.

“You know… I’ve always been good at reading people. And you—”

His eyes flicked down, then up again. “You’re terrified.”

My jaw tightened.

Lucien tilted his head. “Relax, sweetheart. I’m only checking on you.”

“I’m not your sweetheart,” I snapped. “Please stay out of my way”

I tried to move away, but Lucien lazily blocked my path.

“Straightforward. I like that.” Lucien gleefully said. He cleared his throat and said. “I know a secret about Theo that might interest you.”

I stiffened. Lucien is up to no good, and I won’t let him use me.

No, I wouldn’t bite his bait.

“I don’t want to hear it,” I muttered and stepped back from him.

Lucien’s smile widened, stretched with dark satisfaction.

“Of course you don’t. But secrets… have a habit of refusing to stay buried.” He leaned in, lips almost brushing my ear. “Besides… once you hear this one, you might rethink letting him make you his Luna.”

My pulse jumped, not in fear, but fury

“Theo has-”

Before Lucien could let me in on the secrets I didn’t ask to be let on, Theo interrupted.

Theo’s eyes locked with Lucien.

I felt something dreadful seep through them.

Lucien grinned wider.

“Oh, perfect timing, brother”, he drawled. “We were just talking about you.”

Theo stepped between us without hesitation. “Get away from her, Lucien.”

“You’re awfully jumpy today, brother.” Lucien stepped back casually, still grinning. “Relax. There’s no need to get worked up. I was only… welcoming our new Luna.”

Theo’s jaw ticked, but his voice remained even.

“Walk away. If you don’t go away, I will make you”

Lucien held Theo’s gaze a second too long, then grinned.

“As you wish… Alpha.” Lucien leans slightly toward me. “Catch you later, future Luna Kaia”

Lucien was about to go away, but paused and turned back to us with a lazy grin.

Lucien:

“You know what, brother,” Lucien said, smirking. “No need to get mad. I was only talking to my future sister- in-law.”

Theo stiffened instantly.

I felt the air around him drop.

Lucien kept going, enjoying every second.

“And who knows… maybe I’ll reveal a few family secrets to her. You know- So she doesn’t walk into this pack completely blind.”

“Lucien,” Theo muttered.

The way Theo called his name was sharp and filled with warning.

Lucien didnt take his Ange seriously and kept grinning like a well-fed puppy.

“Don’t scowl at me. If Kaia’s going to survive here… she deserves to know what she’s getting into. Dont you agree?”

Theo’s eyes narrow, a muscle ticking in his jaw.

Lucien’s voice dripped like poison.

“Don’t worry, Theo, I’ll only tell her the truths you’re too afraid to.”

I saw his fists clenched when he wasn’t paying attention.

Lucien noticed too, and he seemed to love it.

“Anyway. Enjoy your day, Alpha. I know I will enjoy mine. Haha.”

He walked away with a low chuckle, not bothering to hide his satisfaction.

When he left, I let out a breath I didnt realise I was holding.

“Are you alright?” Theo asked, his eyes filled with concern.

“Yes, I am,” I nodded once.

But the truth is, I wasn’t fine.

Theo waited until Lucien disappeared down the corridor, then turned to me.

“Come with me.” Theo grabbed my hand.

He didn’t look angry or worried.

I followed him into a quiet place.

“Did he say anything else to you?” Theo asked me.

I observed him.

This wasn’t the calm, controlled Alpha the pack saw.

This was a man on edge.

“He was trying to provoke me. Manipulate me. That’s all.” I replied.

Theo’s jaw clenched. “He’ll keep trying. Lucien doesn’t do anything without reason.”

I crossed my arms.

“Theo… what was that about?” I asked.

Theo doesn’t answer immediately. His hands drop to his sides, flexing his fingers. Restlessly.

“Lucien said he knew a secret. Something about you.” I asked, pausing to grasp at his expression.”What did he mean?”

Theo looked away, his jaw tightening. “Nothing you need to concern yourself with.”

I frowned, confused.

“Theo… if it’s about me, or us, you can tell me.”

He still doesn’t look at her.

His chest rose and fell unevenly. It felt as if the truth was something he was afraid of talking about.

When I saw him hesitating, I changed my mind.

“It’s alright. Really.” I smiled, patting his hand. “Im not so nosey, you know. Hehe”

“Lucien just wanted to stir up trouble. He enjoys watching people tense up around him.”

Theo finally looked at me. Sharp, surprised, almost pained.

“You’re not worried? Not even a little?”

I shook my head.

“No. If there were something I needed to know… you’d tell me. I trust you.”

Theo’s breath shuddered.

He looked at me as if my words hit him hard. A little too hard.

I wasn’t bluffing. I trust him completely.

He has given me every reason to believe everything he had to say.

I won’t let Lucien push us apart.

“Kaia… I—” His voice cracks, just slightly. “There are things I haven’t told you yet. Things I should have told you sooner.”

I nodded at him with a smile.

“Then tell me when you’re ready. Not because Lucien pushed you into a corner.”

Theo swallowed hard, his face reddened with guilt.

“I will tell you myself. I promise.” Theo said.

I nodded softly with a smile, accepting his decision for as long as he needed me to.

“Good. Then let’s not give Lucien the satisfaction of getting in our heads.”

Theo almost smiled. Almost.

“You make it sound easy,” Theo said.

I smiled.” It is. When you’re not alone.”

“Lucien wanted you to doubt me.” Theo pointed out.

“Why? What does he gain from that?” I asked, arching my brows.

Theo exhaled slowly, looking away for a second.

“He hates that I’m Alpha.”

I frowned. “That’s normal sibling rivalry. That can’t be all.”

Theo shook his head.

“It’s not a sibling rivalry.” Theo paused. “He believes he should have been Alpha. He still does.”

He looked hurt, but he didn’t say anything more.

I could see his face heating up with hurt.

Theo walked a little closer to me and took my hand into his.

“Stay close today. Please.” Theo muttered.

I smiled at him. “I wasn’t planning on going anywhere.”
