When I entered the living room, my mother was pacing, as if she were about to pull someone’s hair out.
She didn’t look like the cunning and calculating woman she usually was.
She was pacing frantically. Her hands trembled from rage.
“Zane threatened me,” she snapped the moment she saw me. “That mutt thinks he can speak to me like that.”
I raised a brow, leaning against the couch. “Threatened you. What do you mean, mother?”
She scoffed, but her voice shook.
“He said I should stop interfering.” She muttered. “He warned that if I kept pushing Theo, there would be consequences.”
Her fingers clenched at her sides. She was furious probably a little scared.
I watched her for a moment longer before speaking.
“You’re angry,” I said slowly. “But this isn’t just about Zane, is it?”
She froze.
That pause told me everything I needed to know.
I straightened, my tone casual, almost curious. “I told you how I feel about Elara. You know I want her. Yet you keep forcing Theo toward her instead.”
Her eyes flicked to me, sharp and defensive. “That’s not what I’m doing.”
“Isn’t it?” I pressed. “You could have supported the circle’s earlier compromise. You didn’t. You could have let this end quietly, no you’re hellbent on making Elara Theo’s Luna instead of my wife.”
She turned away, jaw tight.
“So I’ll ask again,” I said. “Is there a special reason you’re so desperate for Theo and Elara to marry?”
Her silence stretched.
Then she exhaled harshly. “You wouldn’t understand.”
I laughed softly. “Try me. I’m sure you know I don’t need crayons to understand intentions.”
She faced me then, eyes blazing. “Because Theo is weak.”
There it was.

“He always has been,” she continued bitterly. “And Elara brings power and alliances. Without her, he’ll cling to that stray and ruin everything.”
I tilted my head. “And where does that leave me?”
She hesitated, just a second too long for me to notice.
“You’ll have your place,” she said quickly.
I smiled, bitter and cold. “Funny. Because it feels like you’re willing to sacrifice what I want to keep Theo under control.”
Her eyes flashed. “I’m protecting this family.”
“No,” I corrected quietly. “You’re protecting your image of it.”
Her mouth opened, then closed.
I stepped closer.
“If this were really about Elara,” I said, “you wouldn’t be shaking right now. You’d be confident. You’re not.”
She looked away.
“And that,” I finished, “means you’re afraid Theo choosing Kaia breaks something you can’t fix.”
Her hands curled into fists. “You should stay out of this, Lucien.”
I chuckled. “Too late.”
Because for the first time, I saw it clearly.
This wasn’t about Elara. My mother was hiding something from me.
It was as if Mother was this desperate to force Theo’s hand… To save her own skin.
–Elara–
I hate losing. Especially to a bottom-tier girl like Kaia.
But I can’t deny the truth in front of me. I knew I was losing, there’s no need to deny it anymore.
It hit me all at once.
Now that the Circle stopped looking at me when I spoke, they wouldn’t take my protest seriously.
And my father? He would do anything for me, gave me everything I wanted but now the way my father’s silence stretched longer each time we talked to each other is breaking my heart
The way my name no longer carries weight in the room; even the omegas do not flinch when I walk by.

The realisation tasted bitter. I had spent years believing I could bend things back in my favour if I pushed hard enough.
If I reminded them of debts.
Using my father’s power and influence, I thought I could collect what was promised to me.
Turns out, I was utterly wrong.
Father didn’t even argue when the Circle finalised my marriage to Lucien.
Two days. They gave me two days before my marriage to Lucien takes place and I’m supposed to be okay with it?
The thought made my stomach twist with fury.
This was not how it was supposed to end. I was not supposed to be discarded like trash for some damned girl.
I made up my mind, I didn’t scream or beg for Theo to take me back.
I adjusted. Because surrender had never been my style.
If I couldn’t have Theo outright, then I would take the long way around.
Lucien lived in the same house as Theo now.
They share the same halls, council chambers and pack.
And I would be living here too as Lucien’s wife.
I would stay close enough to watch Theo and Kaia fall apart when I finally start interfering in their relationship.
I would be close by to remind Theo of everything we used to be.
Marriage was not the end of a game, it was just a different board.
Theo thought he had won because he chose Kaia as his Luna. But he’s wrong, Kaia’s existence and the circle’s decision cannot stop me.
They were wrong.
I would become Luna of this pack, one way or another, even if I have to marry Lucien for that.
And when Theo finally realised what he had lost, I would be right there, wearing another man’s ring, living under the same roof as him, close enough to take everything back.
I smiled to myself.
Getting married in two days isn’t bad.

I combed my hair and stepped out to look for my future husband, Lucien.
I found Lucien outside in the garden, having a wine party with some girls serving him.
He sat with his legs wide like the pack already belonged to him.

He looked up when he saw me and smiled slowly, the kind of smile that said he’d been expecting me.
“Leave us,” he barked at the girls and they quickly left.
“So,” he said, putting his glass down., “I hear you’ve decided to stop fighting the inevitable.”
I didn’t correct him.
“I’ve agreed to the Circle’s decision,” I said. “We’ll marry in two days.”
Lucien’s brows lifted. “That’s it? No screaming? No threats? You were ready to burn the pack down yesterday.”
“People change,” I replied calmly.
He laughed, low and amused. “No, Elara. You don’t.” He stepped closer, studying my face. “So tell me. What made you change your mind?”
I met his gaze. “I realised resistance gets you nowhere. Influence does.”
His smile widened. “Careful. That almost sounds sincere.”
“Believe whatever you like,” I said. “You wanted me. You’re getting me.”
Lucien tilted his head. “And Theo?”
My jaw tightened for half a second before I smoothed it out.
“Theo made his choice,” I said. “I’m making mine.”
Lucien watched me, clearly enjoying this far too much.
“You know,” he said, “I always wondered how it would feel to finally win something he couldn’t take back.”
I stepped past him toward the doorway. “Then don’t waste it.”
He caught my wrist lightly, possessively.
“You’re not doing this just to be my Luna,” he said quietly. “You’re doing this because it puts you back in his orbit, right?.”
I leaned in, lowering my voice.
“Does it matter,” I said, “if it gets us both what we want?”
Lucien released my wrist and laughed.

“No,” he admitted. “It really doesn’t.”
As I walked away, I felt his eyes on my back. He had a satisfied and confident smile on his lips.
Let Lucien think he’d claimed me.
I had only agreed to stand close enough to take everything else back.
