Chapter 78
–Kaia–
Theo grabbed a towel seeing my hair was still damp.
:
“Let me do it,” I said, taking the towel from him. “Get dressed, big bad alpha” I winked.
“If you tease me like this, I will lose all control, blue eyes,” he mouthed, sniffing my neck.
“You don’t want to?” I asked. “Too bad!”
“No, I want to!” Theo scampered over and grabbed my waist.

“Oh you little horny alpha,” I laughed, and Theo’s face dropped. “It’s still morning. You have a meeting, let’s see what you’ve got later”
“Promised?” Theo asked. He looked like he’d lost a biscuit.
“You’ll have to find out later, dear alpha” I turned away and began wiping my hair.
“Aah, blue eyes!” Theo breathed.
By the time I finished braiding my hair after drying it and folding the sleeves of Theo’s oversized shirt, Theo was already dressed.
He wore a black shirt with rolled sleeves; he had his brushed back, with a few strands falling over.
He looked unfairly good. I can’t believe how lucky I am to have a man like him in my arms.
“Let’s go, you are going to be late” I looked at the clock.
Saying that, I walked ahead. As I was reaching for the door Theo spoke.
“Blue eyes….please wait.”
I turned.
He stood near his drawer, his fingers tapping the drawer like he was nervous.
Theo never looked nervous. Not in front of anyone. But now his shoulders were tight, his eyes softer than usual.
“I-uh…” He cleared his throat. “I have something for you.”
“For me?” I blinked. “Why? I mean what for?”
He hesitated. And that alone made my chest tighten.
“Because… I wanted to,” he said quietly.

Chapter 78
He opened the drawer and pulled out a small velvet box.
My stomach did a flip.
“Theo,” I mouthed. “What-?”

“It’s not a mating gift,” he blurted. “Not yet. I don’t want to pressure you. I just… saw this months ago. Before I even knew you were mine.”
My breath hitched.
Before he knew we were going to become a couple.
What a thoughtful person he was. I wish the goddess would take all his pain and give it to his enemies.
He stepped closer and opened the box.
Inside was a necklace; thin gold chain, intricate, with a tiny crescent moon charm.
It shimmered faintly, warm as sunrise.
“It’s… beautiful,” I whispered.
Theo looked almost shy, his eyes dropping to the necklace like he wasn’t sure I’d like it.
“It reminded me of you,” he said. “Small, but stronger than anyone gives you credit for. Quiet, but… full of light.” He paused. “And the moon has always been sacred to us. To our kind.”
He lifted the necklace gently. “May I?”
I turned around, gathering my hair aside.
His fingers brushed the back of my neck careful and reverent.
A soft shiver rolled down my spine as he clasped it.
When he finished, he didn’t step back.
His hands stayed on my shoulders. Then he slowly turned me to face him
“It’s not just a gift,” he murmured, his soothing voice gracing my ear. “It’s a promise. That I’ll protect you. That you’re not alone anymore.”
I swallowed hard and nodded at him.
“Theo,” I said softly. “You already gave me more than enough.”
He frowned faintly. “What do you mean?”
“You see me,” I whispered. “You don’t treat me like a burden. Or an outcast. Or a mistake. You make me feel like I belong.”

“A mess?” I echoed.

She gave me a sad smile. “When Elara broke his heart and left him wrecked”

“Oh,” I mouthed, not sure what to say. I hesitated, then asked, “What happened to Theo’s fated mate?”
She blinked. “Oh, Theo never found his fated. Not a glimpse of her once. The Moon Goddess didn’t reveal anyone to him.”
Her voice lowered. “He fell in love with Elara instead. He loved her deeply and he was willing to reject his fated if she ever showed up just to be with her.”
“She betrayed him,” Justine continued. “And he never really recovered.”
My chest tightened painfully.
If I had met him back then, he would’ve never looked at me the way he looked at her.
I breathed out slowly.
“I’m lucky,” I said softly. “Luckily he moved on with me.”
Justine looked at me for a long second before asking the one question I wasn’t prepared for.
“What would you do,” she said gently, “if Theo’s fated mate suddenly shows up one day?”
My breath caught, and my fingers froze around the warm cup.
The room suddenly felt too small.
“I…I…I”
The word caught in my throat. I had never once thought about it so I had nothing to say.
Because if I did…If I did, I’d break.
Justine placed a gentle hand on mine.
“I’m not saying she will,” she said softly. “But you deserve to think about it.”
My heart pounded painfully.
Would Theo still want me? Or would the mate bond rip him away from me?
Would I lose everything all over again?
I can’t be selfish, right? He deserves to be with his fated, even if that person is not me.
I forced a small, tight breath.
“I don’t know,” I whispered. “I don’t want to think about it.”
