“It’s lovely to have you all here this afternoon,” Justine said, picking up her glass and giving a brief speech. “I’ve always wanted to have the intimate field’s hangout with the girls in the pack but we weren’t that close at all”

“While Zane is out there working, I get bored overseeing things in the pack since the Alpha’s Luna wasn’t here then, so I had to step in and help with running the pack on behalf of the Luna”

“And now that you are all here,” she paused, looking at each of us. “We should make time every month and get together to have fun”

Saying this, she raised her glass.

“Cheers to the girlhood” she shouted. Then, she turned to me. “Congratulations to Kaia, our Luna.”

“Congratulations Kaia, we are glad to have you here,” one of the warriors, Chloe, said, smiling at me.

“Thank you, Chloe,” I mutter.

“We are glad you are going to be our Luna. I’m so happy for you and the Alpha” Meret, another warrior said

to me.

“Thank you, everyone,” I forced a smile.

“Cheers to Kaia and Alpha Theo. To the future Luna,” Justine raised a glass toasting.

We all raised our glasses, toasting to me, Theo, and the girls.

But my mind was far from celebrating the occasion.

My fingers kept brushing against the necklace around my neck, Theo’s gift.

But my stupid heart kept pounding and Justine’s question kept ringing in my head.

“What will you do if Theo’s fated mate suddenly shows up?

I forced a smile, nodding to whatever jokes Chloe was telling the others but my mind wasn’t really there.

My stomach dropped again.

I can’t deny there was a possibility of her showing up soon or later.

Will I lose Theo and everything we’ve built? It doesn’t matter if I was his Luna, his fates will always have the upper hand and I can’t do anything about it.

I had experienced my own fated, it would be cruel to deprive Theo of that privilege.

What if I lose him before I even fully have him?

Chapter 79

No. Stop overthinking it, Kaia.

Justine saw me zoning out and nudged my shoulder lightly.

I blinked back to the ladies and caught up just as Chloe was complaining about her mate’s snoring.

“That man snores so loud I swear it rattles my bones,” Chloe said, making everyone burst into laughter.

I smiled, trying to play along but deep down I didn’t hear a thing she said.

Justine caught my fake laugh and her eyes softened.

She looked at me and asked, trying to include me.

“Kaia, you didn’t tell them about the necklace.”

All their eyes turned toward me.

I raised the pendant between my fingers.

“Ah-Theo gave it to me,” I said, trying to sound normal.

“Oooh,” Mila gasped dramatically. “Look at her blushing. Our Luna is in love.”

“I am not “I started, my cheeks burning.

Justine lifted a brow. “You look happy, Kaia. Happier than when you first arrived.”

I exhaled. “I am. He…Theo makes me feel safe. And seen. Even if we aren’t fated, he-” My voice cracked. I swallowed. “He took away the fears I had.”

The girls fell quiet for a moment. Their expressions softened in a way that felt like a hug.

Then Mila, always the loud one, clapped. “Okay! Enough, you’re making me emotional. Let’s talk nonsense again.”

“Okay…” I cleared my throat.” What’s the most embarrassing thing any of you has ever done?” I asked, trying to fit in and not make them uncomfortable.

Mila nearly choked on her drink. “Oh Goddess, please don’t make me go first.”

Justine smirked. “Oh, I’ll go. Mine is legendary.”

All eyes snapped to her, and we looked at her grinning with curiosity.

She lifted her hand like she was confessing in court.

“So… Zane and I were still new mates. Like, obsessively-mated-new.”

Mila groaned, “This already sounds unhinged.”

Justine grinned. “It was. We were on patrol. We were supposed to be guarding the east border at night. But then Zane gave me this look…”

Chloe cut in. “The mate-hunger look?”

“Exactly that,” Justine said, laughing. “Next thing I know, we’re behind a tree, we ripped our clothes off our bodies in minutes, making the moon goddess proud”

“Justine!” the girls squealed.

She threw her hands up. “Wait, it gets worse! An elder. Elder Rusell comes walking by and I swear on the Goddess, he shines his flashlight on us fucking and goes.

She deepened her voice dramatically. “Young ones, could you kindly relocate your mating ritual off the borders? The guards will get distracted if you keep screaming like that, they might mistake you for a rogue’

We all exploded. Mila fell sideways on a pillow, laughing her arse off.

“Oh my goddess,” I wheezed. “How did you ever show your face again?”

“I didn’t,” Justine said. “Not for three whole days. I was afraid I’d bump into him again”

“Great, you did the right thing to avoid him,” Meret said.

Mila raised her hand cautiously. “Fine. My turn. But don’t you all dare laugh at me.”

“We’re absolutely laughing,” Chloe said.

Mila sighed. “So… during my first heat with Kai, my mate, I was jumpy. Everything startled me. And he snuck up behind me like, ‘Baby, are you okay?’ and I…”

She mimed swinging. “I punched him. Right in the jaw, dislocating his neck”

I snorted.

“He fell,” she added, her face red with embarrassment. “A whole Beta warrior was knocked over by his tiny mate.”

Justine clapped. “The strength of the horny. Nothing that beats that shit!”

“I apologised for an entire week,” Mila muttered.

“It wasn’t really your fault to say the least,” Meret stated. “It was your hormones. Haha!”

Then Chloe lifted her hand casually. “I win.”

“You always think you win,” Mila teased.

“No, I won. Because I gave birth… during a pack run.”

The room fell silent and we all looked at each other, dumbstruck.

“What?!” I squeaked.

Chloe nodded like she was explaining a grocery list.

“It was mid-shift. We were racing through the forests when I felt this sharp pain, shifted back into human form, and everyone behind me started screaming.”

Mila gasped. “Because you were naked?”

“Because I was in labour, Mila!”

Justine doubled over laughing. “The unmated wolves must’ve fainted!”

“They scattered,” Chloe said. “One literally vomited from panic, she said she thought I was dying because the pup was poking out of my wolf”

I clutched my stomach from laughing. “Chloe, that’s insane.”

“I know.” She shrugged. “My mate had to carry me bridal-style back while yelling at everyone to stop crying.”

We were all in tears, actual tears from laughing at that point.

Once we all calmed down from laughing too hard, Meret leaned toward me next.

“So, Kaia…where are you from? What pack? What’s your family like?”

My heart froze. I wasn’t expecting her to ask that.

“Oh-uh…” I tapped my glass. “It’s…complicated.”

Mila tilted her head. “Complicated? How is that?”

Chloe frowned sympathetically. “Did something bad happen to you?”

My throat closed. I tried not to shake or flinch and show what I was battling with inside.

I forced a tiny smile. “It’s just…not a happy story.”

An uncomfortable silence fell over the table.

Right before panic truly set in, Justine cut in smoothly.

“She came from a place that didn’t appreciate her,” she said, looking towards me. “She’s still healing from it. And she doesn’t owe anyone details.”

Goddess blesses her. Justine always saves the day, I can’t imagine what I’d do without her here.

I exhaled shakily.

Meret reached out and squeezed my hand.

“You’re with us now,” she said gently. “You’re part of this pack, okay?”

Mila

put her hand on mine. “Kaia, babe, we all have shit families. Seriously.”

Chloe nodded vigorously. “My mother tried to sell me to her cousin for two pigs and a pickup truck.”

“What?” I blinked.

“It was a nice truck,” Chloe muttered. “I can’t lie”

Everyone burst into laughter.

“My fated mate rejected me for someone with better hair,” Mila said next, chuckling.

“Impossible,” Justine said. “Your hair is your only personality.”

“Thank you,” Mila tossed her curls around dramatically.

Then Meret lifted her cup. “My entire pack thinks I’m cursed because every man I like ends up mated to someone else.”

“Girl, same,” Chloe said, clinking her glass with hers. “Their wolves kept cashing with you, oh I’m sure”

We couldn’t hold it in and laughter exploded again.

My shoulders loosened. And I could feel the tension in my chest unwound.

For a moment, I wasn’t the girl who was betrayed and exiled from the only place she had known as home.

I was just one of them.

Then Mila nudged me. “See? You’re not alone, Kaia. And you don’t need to share until you’re ready.”

Justine squeezed my knee under the table.

She silently looked at me as if trying to assure me that she was on my side.

I felt my throat tighten, I wanted to tear up badly.

My eyes burned, but I forced my tears back.

Then, I managed a small smile.

This is what sisterhood felt like, it felt like safety and security.
