Chapter 105 He Did Regret It
“I hate this woman!” Wilder suddenly shouted. “She stole Daddy! She deserves to die!”
A collective gasp rippled through the room.
No child would come up with something like that on their own–unless an adult had words in their mouth.
Standing there, Katrina let out a quiet, inward smirk, not the least bit troubled.

For the past five years, Chase had never truly let go of Nina. He’d even pushed himself to rebuild his success, chasing after her in his own way.
Bringing Wilder here today had been deliberate.
She wanted Nina to know exactly where she stood.
Chase’s face darkened. Without warning, he slapped Wilder across the face. “Who told you you could say that? Go home. Now.”
Wilder had never been hit before. The blow sent him into loud, uncontrollable sobs.
Katrina hadn’t expected Chase to strike their child over Nina. Her anger flared instantly. “Chase! Was that really necessary? He’s just a kid–it was a joke. How can you hit him?”
“Yeah, Chase, don’t hit the child. Whatever it is, you can talk about it at home,” others chimed in. At a reunion like this, once things turned physical, people were bound to object.
Charlotte, however, didn’t hold back. “He needed that. What kind of thing was that to say? Katrina, not to be rude, but you’re way too indulgent with your son. What if that drink had actually splashed on Nina?”
“Wilder’s still young. He doesn’t know better–I’ve already apologized for him.” Katrina turned to Nina. “You’re not going to hold it against him, right?”
Everyone looked to Nina, waiting for her answer. The way Katrina phrased it put her on the spot–if she said she minded, she’d come off as petty.
“I do mind,” Nina said calmly. “This outfit’s a new overseas release. It’s expensive. If it had been ruined, it might’ve cost you and your husband quite a bit.”
What she wore was a limited piece, only available abroad and hard to get domestically.

“It’s just a dress,” Katrina replied. “Even if it got dirty, you could wash it-”

Before she could finish, Charlotte cut in, “Wash it and wear it again? Katrina, do you think this is your kid’s diaper? Cleaning something like that isn’t simple.”
“But it didn’t get dirty, did it?” Katrina shot back lightly. “Nina, you’ve been abroad for a few years–how did you get so picky?”
Her tone sounded mild, but it grated all the same.
Chase’s expression turned even uglier. He grabbed Katrina by the arm and pulled her outside, his voice low and sharp. “Go home. Now. Stop making a scene.”
These were all their high school classmates from five years ago. The way Katrina was stirring trouble–smiling on the surface while taking jabs underneath–was humiliating him in front of everyone.
Katrina yanked her arm free, frowning, clearly displeased. “I asked you to have dinner at home today, and you refused. Then you run off here–don’t think I don’t know why. You just wanted to see Nina, didn’t you? What is it? Regretting it now? Regretting not getting engaged to her back then?”
Her words cut into Chase like knives.
He did regret it. Every single day since marrying Katrina, he’d regretted it.
If he’d ended up with Nina instead, the Mercer family wouldn’t have struggled the way they did afterward. And he wouldn’t have to deal with Katrina’s constant passive–aggressive digs every day.
“Dad! Let’s go home!”
Wilder tugged at Chase’s sleeve, trying to calm him down, but Chase only felt more irritated.
All these years, Katrina had been using the child to keep him tied down.
