“Why is he crying like that? Should we take him to the hospital?” someone asked.

Katrina gave an apologetic smile. “He’s always like this. Sorry to worry everyone—he’ll be fine after some rest at home.”
Then she glanced at Chase. “Chase, why don’t we head out for tonight? We can have everyone over to our place another time.”
In a situation like this, Chase couldn’t very well refuse her in front of everyone. He nodded, pretending not to see through it. “Let’s go. I’ll call a car.”
Only then did Katrina seem satisfied.
Charlotte had seen right through her little trick–but she hadn’t expected a mother to go that far with her own child.
“Nina, maybe we should head out too.”
She’d lost all interest in staying.
Nina nodded.
The group broke up quickly, any sense of reunion gone. Katrina had managed to ruin the entire gathering.
Inside the Mercer home, Katrina had barely stepped out of the car before her face darkened. “Delete Nina. Now.”
Chase had had enough of her unreasonable demands. “Are you done making a scene?”
“Done? Chase, she added you for a reason. She knows you’re married, and she still flirted with you right in front of me. Don’t forget–you have a wife. You have a child. Delete her. Right now.”
Katrina lunged for his phone, but this time, Chase, fueled by alcohol, shoved her away. “Get off
me!”
She fell back onto the living room sofa. Wilder rushed over and threw his arms around her. “Mom! Daddy, don’t hit Mom!”
Looking at his son, Chase felt a surge of anger–Katrina had completely warped the boy.

He yanked up Wilder’s pant leg and saw bruises scattered across the child’s thigh, marks clearly left by Katrina’s pinching. “Don’t think I don’t know your tricks, Katrina. He’s your own son, and you can still be this cruel. I really misjudged you.”
“Chase! I’m doing this for us! Nina still has feelings for you. She wants to break us apart. Have you forgotten? I was the one who stayed by your side all these years. Me–not her!”
Katrina had lived with Chase in that cramped apartment and stood by him through his hardest years. Now he was the president of Mercer Group. There was no way she’d let anyone take everything she had.
Chase’s voice turned icy. “Enough. If it weren’t for you, Nina and I wouldn’t have split up back then. I’ve already done more than enough for you. Giving you the title of Mrs. Mercer is the most you’re getting. Don’t expect anything else.”
The words hit Katrina like a blow. Her face drained of color.
Just then, Cecilia came downstairs, irritation written all over her face. “What are you fighting about now? Ever since you got married, it’s arguments every single night. Can’t I have a moment of peace?”
“Cecilia, this is all Chase! Do you know what he did at dinner? He and Nina were exchanging looks the whole time–and they even swapped contact information! I’m Mrs. Mercer. Did he think about how that makes me look at all?”
Katrina’s voice rose into a hysterical pitch, bordering on madness.
Cecilia let out a cold laugh. “You were the one who clung to my son in the first place. If it weren’t for you, he and Nina would’ve been together long ago. Our family wouldn’t have had to struggle all those years. You brought this on yourself.”
“Cecilia, how can you say that? Don’t forget, Chase and I are married. Wilder is your grandson. I’ve given so much to this family. I won’t let anyone threaten my place here!”
Katrina’s shouting gave Cecilia a headache. She rubbed her temples. “What’s the big deal if a man has a woman on the side? Especially someone like Chase. It’s only natural for Nina to come back around. Maybe you should take a hard look at yourself–figure out whether you’re even worthy of my son.”
