Nina rushed forward and hit pause–at the same time brushing against Jensen’s fingers.
He pulled his hand back almost instantly, putting a bit of distance between them.
The air seemed to freeze.
Nina looked at his withdrawn hand and said quietly, “I… need to check something.”
“Mm.”
Jensen’s voice was low as he stepped aside to give her space.
The room wasn’t large. Nina quickly rewound the footage. Sure enough, she saw Katrina being dragged into the room by a man’s hand. Hours passed on the recording without her coming out. It wasn’t until late into the night that Katrina finally slipped out, looking furtive.
Compared to when she went in, her clothes were slightly disheveled, as if they’d been tugged
“Done?” Jensen’s voice came from beside her.
“Give me a second.”
Nina took out her phone and recorded that segment of the footage.
“You’re not here for an earring,” Jensen said. “You’re looking for something else, aren’t you?”
“… Jensen, you’re here for your ring. I won’t get in your way.”
She didn’t answer him directly and turned to leave.
But in the next moment, Jensen said, “You knew last night that Miles was the one who drugged you. And you still played along and led Chase upstairs. Weren’t you worried something might actually happen to you?”
“The Solstice has tight security. If anything had gone wrong, the staff would’ve stepped in right away. Besides… last night wasn’t intentional.”
Nina deliberately avoided telling him everything. Jensen didn’t press her, either. He simply said, “You can go.”

Nina walked out of the surveillance room, then glanced down at the hand that had brushed against his.
He’d pulled away so quickly–probably because he didn’t want any kind of entanglement with her.Looks like Jensen really is that into Ms. Beaumont. He came in person just to track down a lost ring, and he won’t even so much as brush against another woman. Model boyfriend material, apparently.
Thinking that, Nina walked out of The Solstice.
Not long after, Jensen stepped out of the surveillance room as well. In a cool, even tone, he said, “Shut down the Huntington family’s projects. I don’t want to hear their name in Linholt within a month.”
“Mr. Grey, may I ask why?”
“They crossed me.”
With that, he left The Solstice.
By evening, Nina was back home. Marvin and Esther had prepared an elaborate spread, and she couldn’t help asking, “Didn’t my birthday already pass? What’s the occasion? Why so much food?”
“Jensen’s coming back later,” Esther said. “Of course, we should celebrate.”
Nina’s smile froze.
Jensen… was coming back?
Wasn’t this supposed to be temporary?
“How long is he staying?” she asked.
Before Marvin or Esther could answer, the doorbell rang again. The housekeeper went to open it. Caleb stepped inside, changed into slippers, and headed straight for Nina.
“What’s the occasion? This looks like a feast,” he said.
“Go wash your hands. We’ll start dinner once Jensen gets back,” Esther replied warmly as she set out the tableware.
Nina nudged Caleb. “What are you doing here?”

“What do you mean, what am I doing here? Haven’t I been staying here these past few days?” Caleb looked at her, puzzled. “Don’t tell me getting bullied yesterday scrambled your brain.”
“Cut it out. Jensen’s staying here now–behave yourself.”
“He can stay all he wants. I’ll still come and go as I please.”
Caleb didn’t take it seriously at all. He dropped into a chair like he owned the place. Marvin and Esther clearly adored him, treating him like their own son.
Nina rubbed her forehead.
At this rate, there was no way she’d have any appetite for dinner.
Ding–dong-
The doorbell rang again, and Nina’s back went rigid.
Sure enough, Jensen walked in.
