In her previous life, her marriage to Chase had been nothing more than a hollow shell. All the while, Katrina and Chase had been carrying on behind her back. There were even times Nina had stepped aside herself just to make room for their affair.
Back then, Katrina was always talking about not wanting to break up a family, yet she never stopped pushing Chase to choose between them. And in the end, Chase made his choice.
He let Nina die–along with their two children–just so he could marry Katrina.
This time around, things wouldn’t end that way. If anything, Katrina was about to find out exactly what it felt like to be manipulated and set up.
The doorbell rang at the Tann residence.
Martha went to answer it, only to find two unfamiliar faces standing on the doorstep.
“May I help you?” she asked, sounding puzzled.
Beatrice and Miles brushed past her without hesitation, walking in with an air of ease as if they owned the place.
“Hey–wait, you two-” Martha tried to stop them, but they were already halfway into the house.
The elegant interior of the Tann home immediately caught Beatrice’s eye, and she couldn’t hide her satisfaction.
“So this is the Tann estate,” she said with a bright smile. “They certainly live well. Just look at this place–the decor, the layout. Everything is exquisite.”
Her eyes roamed greedily over the room, as if she were already picturing herself as its owner.
“Mrs. Huntington? What is the meaning of this?” Esther had come downstairs after hearing the commotion. She froze at the sight of Beatrice and Miles standing in the middle of her living room, Miles cradling several large, red gift boxes.
Her confusion deepened.
She hadn’t forgotten the poor impression they had made at Nina’s birthday party; why were they suddenly showing up here?
“Mrs. Tann,” Beatrice said, perfectly composed and wearing a wide smile. “Nina hasn’t told you

yet, has she? That girl really is a bit shy.”
“What exactly is going on?” Esther’s tone cooled, her displeasure obvious.
Just then, Caleb and Nina joined them downstairs.
The moment Miles saw Nina, his eyes lit up. Nina noticed immediately and frowned.
“Mrs. Huntington, Miles… what brings you to our home today?” she asked.
The Tann and Huntington families had never been on close terms.

Beatrice, however, acted as though that didn’t matter. She stepped forward and took Nina’s hand. “Nina, look at you–you’ve truly grown into such a poised, beautiful young lady.”
“Mrs. Huntington,” Nina said firmly, pulling her hand back. Her brow remained furrowed, her irritation unmistakable. “Why are you here?”
Beatrice hesitated for a split second, as if even she realized how abrupt this was, but she quickly brushed the tension aside with a smile.
“Don’t be silly,” she said. “We’re here, of course, to discuss a marriage proposal.”
The word “proposal” made Esther let out a sharp laugh of disbelief.
“A proposal? Mrs. Huntington, you must be mistaken. We have no plans to marry Nina off.”
Beatrice only smiled, unfazed.
“But she’s already essentially part of the Huntington family,” she said lightly. “If we didn’t come here to formalize this proposal, it would make us look irresponsible.”
“What?” Esther’s expression shifted instantly. She turned her gaze toward Nina.
Before she could say a word, Nina cut in.
“Mrs. Huntington, what exactly is your goal? Coming to the Tann house this early in the morning just to ruin my reputation?”
Beatrice let out a soft sigh, as if she were dealing with a shy, difficult child.
“Nina, I know young ladies can be embarrassed about these things, but you shouldn’t act as if none of it happened.”
She continued without skipping a beat, “On the night of your birthday party–just three days
