Back in those days, she would sneak cup noodles over for him to eat, while she sat across from him munching on fruits instead. She’d always make up an excuse, saying the cup
noodles tasted great but she couldn’t have any herself, so she’d ask him to eat them for her to satisfy her cravings.
“Just order takeout for yourself.”
Jensen set down his empty mug and started washing it.
Nina pulled out her phone. “What good food is there around here? Looks like barbecue is pretty popular.”
“Only barbecue places are open this late.”
“I see.”
She scrolled through the app and confirmed there were barely any other options nearby. She picked out a few items casually, then glanced over at him in the kitchen, unable to hold back her question. “About you and Ms. Beaumont…”
“It’s nothing like what you think.” His tone stayed calm, and his hand paused mid-wipe. “You’re awfully curious about gossip, aren’t you?”
“I was just asking casually.” Nina shrugged. “Still, you were pretty careless. How could you lose control just from drinking? Don’t you know in our circle, women can get men drugged just as easily?”
“Nothing actually happened that night.”
“Huh? That’s not what you said earlier.”
“I have no solid proof, but I know full well what I did and didn’t do.”
He’d suspected foul play all along, yet no one was willing to tell him the truth. Ever since Nina came back, he’d sorted out his true feelings for her. He’d been quietly digging into what really happened that night, trying every means to get Audrey to spill the truth.
After finishing her order, Nina spoke up, “It’s not exactly a bad thing anyway. The Beaumonts have massive wealth and influence. Marrying Audrey will put you well on track to become one of the world’s top tycoons soon enough.”
“That’s how you see it?”

It was always meant to be his fate, no matter in her past life or this new chance at life. He was destined to take full charge of the Grey Group and grow into that all-powerful influential figure everyone talked about.
For a brief moment just now, overwhelmed by guilt, the quiet atmosphere and old memories, she’d mistaken the man in front of her for the boy he’d been five years ago. But time moved on, and people inevitably changed.
Jensen placed the glass down on the marble kitchen counter, his voice cold. “Don’t make too much noise eating late-night snacks.”
With that, he headed straight upstairs.
Nina turned on the TV and lowered the volume all the way down.
Her takeout arrived soon after. Instead of a regular delivery guy, an elderly shop owner showed up at the door. He looked surprised seeing a young woman answer the door. Nina noticed a whole case of beer in his hands right away.
“I didn’t order any beer. Did you bring the wrong order?”
“This is Mr. Grey’s place, right? He always adds beer whenever he orders late-night snacks from us. I figured he just forgot this time.”
“You’re the shop owner yourself?”
“That’s right. It’s just a small family shop, so I handle deliveries personally.”
Nina pulled out some cash to pay him. “Thanks a lot. I’ll let him know.”
She shut the door and stared at the beer case, shaking her head softly. He really has grown up and picked up drinking habits over the years.
She opened the case and counted out a full twenty-four cans. Just how much alcohol could he even drink?
She laid out all the skewers. There was nothing to drink in the fridge except milk, so she popped open
a beer can to go with her food.
Upstairs, Jensen heard the distinct sound of a can being cracked open. He walked down the stairs at once and spotted Nina sipping away.
“Jensen? Why did you come back down?”

Her face flushed bright red instantly; she always got flushed easily after drinking, and the effect was plain to see now.
Jensen frowned sharply. “Where did you get the beer?”
“The snack shop owner brought it over. He said you always get beer with your late-night orders. You’re still so young, why drink so much? Got something weighing on your mind?”
Her thoughts were still clear enough, yet her eyes looked dazed and naive.
Jensen knew she had an extremely low alcohol tolerance. She could barely handle sparkling wine, and two cans of beer were more than enough to get her tipsy.
