If they could acquire it from the Mercers, all they had to do was wait. Once development picked up around it, the value would soar. Flip it at the right time, and it could go for five billion.
More than half of Chase’s turnaround back then had come from that single piece of land.
But none of that was something Nina could tell Jensen–or Marvin and Esther.
If she said she’d come back from the future, they’d probably think she’d lost her mind and send her straight to a psychiatric hospital.
Early the next morning, Nina and Jensen were heading out to school when they spotted Chase asleep in his car by the gate.
Nina frowned and tugged Jensen along. “Let’s go. I don’t want to run into him.”
“Alright.”
They got into the car. Just as the Tann residence gates opened, Chase jolted awake. He jumped out and rushed straight toward their car.
“Nina! Get out of here! We need to talk this through!”
From the back seat, Nina’s expression hardened. “Sam, drive.”
“Ms. Tann, but-”
“Drive!”
With no choice, Sam hit the gas. Chase hadn’t expected her to actually move the car forward. Startled, he leapt aside, lost his footing, and fell hard onto the ground.
Watching him, Nina let out a cold laugh.
She knew it–there was no way Chase would risk his life that easily. He was just used to using his so- called precious life to threaten people.
At school, Katrina had returned to class as usual. Now that her identity had been exposed, she was met with cold shoulders and quiet mockery in Class C.
During lunch break, Nina headed straight to Class C.

Seeing her at the door, Hunter assumed she was there for him and walked over. “Need something?”
“I’m here for Katrina.”
Nina glanced toward the front row. Katrina sat there, not even daring to meet her eyes.

Chase hadn’t shown up to school again that day, and without him, no one in Class C was willing to stand up for Katrina.
Nina walked up to her desk. “Katrina, about the three hundred seventy–six thousand you owe me–any progress?”
“The deadline’s tomorrow. Why are you rushing me?” Katrina shot back, sounding more like the creditor than the one in debt.
Nina glanced around, didn’t see Chase, and said, “Chase was supposed to pay off your debt. I’m just giving you a friendly warning–he can’t cover this. If you don’t want to get sued, you should return the dress to me.”
“Return it?”
Katrina’s eyes lit up at the word.
“You can return it,” Nina said, “but… It’s not enough if it’s just you. You’ll have to convince Tara to return hers, too. Otherwise, you’ll still be stuck paying for her.”
Katrina’s face went pale instantly.
Ever since that night, Tara had hated her. And today, Katrina had been avoiding her the whole time at school–how could she possibly ask Tara to give up her treasured dress?
“So… can’t do it? Then the money’s on you.”
