Laurel slept restlessly, her mind spinning with chaotic thoughts.

What was that strange black mist? Was it the illness, or something else entirely, something alive and dangerous?
That so-called healing power had to be hidden. She needed to forget it ever existed. She couldn’t afford to bring trouble down on herself.
She’d only just arrived in the tribe. How was she supposed to prove her worth and be accepted, instead of being treated like some outsider?
Could she really rely on Sebastian alone? If he knew she came from another world, would he still treat her the same? Or would he be the first to drive her away?
And yet, she didn’t want to leave. For the first time, she had a stable place to belong. Everything here was too beautiful to give up.
She had lived through years of war. Compared to that, the peaceful life of a beast world tribe felt like a paradise. How could she bear to leave?
She tossed and turned until well past midnight.
When the moon hung high, Laurel quietly got up. In the dark, she dragged her hide bedding across the floor, inching over to Sebastian.
She spread her bed beside him and lay down, feeling instantly calmer.
Only when she could clearly hear Sebastian’s steady breathing did her heart finally settle.
After a brief hesitation, she quietly reached out and gently tugged on three of his fingers.
The warmth of his hand filled her with a deep sense of safety.
Sleep finally crept in, and she drifted off.
Beastmen had sharp senses. Hearing the little female tossing and turning, Sebastian had been awake the whole time, silently keeping her company in the dark.
When she got up, he only half-closed his eyes, watching quietly as she dragged her hides over with effort and then flopped down beside him.
He chuckled softly, finding her unbearably cute.

The fingers she held tightened slightly as he wrapped her small, soft hand in his palm. In the darkness, the smile on his face was impossible to suppress.
He watched her perfect sleeping face at close range again and again. When dawn finally began to break, he couldn’t resist reaching out with his other hand and lightly pinching her soft cheek.
Tenderness melted in his eyes, and he let out a satisfied sigh.
He felt like he’d caught some strange illness.
The more he’d once avoided females, the more he was now hopelessly drawn to the little female before him.
He wanted to be her male, to please her, to care for her, and to spend his life with her.
Once that thought took root, it refused to leave.
The next morning, Sebastian went out early to handle tribe business.
When he returned, he saw Laurel frying meat slices over the fire at the cave entrance.
Smoke curled into the air. Fat wrapped around the meat, sizzling on the stone slab, the mix of lean and fat releasing a mouthwatering aroma.
“You’re back.” The little female looked up and waved at him, her eyes crinkling happily. “Come quick. I made fried meat and roasted root vegetables.”
The male sat down beside her and watched as she carefully picked out a sweet potato with a crisp, browned skin and held it to his mouth. “Try this. Today’s sweet potatoes are really sweet. Open up.”
Sebastian’s cheeks warmed. He hurriedly opened his mouth and took a bite, so nervous he couldn’t even taste it properly.
His reply came out low and muffled. “Yeah. Really sweet.”
After the meal, Sebastian suddenly remembered something and took out a small hide pouch.
Laurel opened it and found it full of coarse, pale yellow crystals. She pinched one, touched it to her tongue, and her eyes lit up. “It’s coarse salt. Where did you get this?”
“I traded hides for it. I could only get this small bag. Eat it first.” Sebastian rubbed the bridge of his nose. “Sorry. There’s nothing much at home. When warm spring comes, I’ll take you to the market and trade for more.”

Laurel nodded obediently and couldn’t help praising him. “I thought everyone just used mineral salt from the river. I didn’t expect you could make salt yourselves. That’s amazing.”
Sebastian took over the roasting and explained gently, “Salt really is precious in the beast world.
“Mineral salt is rare, and it’s not easy to find in the forest.
“Most of the salt we eat comes from sea salt dried and sold by mermaids.
“Every year in spring and summer, tribes hold markets. Beastmen trade there for a whole year’s worth of supplies.”
He smiled and handed a piece of roasted meat to Laurel. “The markets are lively. If you like them, I’ll take you next warm spring to have a look.”
“Really?” Laurel’s eyes curved into crescent moons. “The last time I went to a market was when I was a kid. I’m so excited.”
Sebastian felt a quiet stir in his heart. Before, when he had no intention of forming bonds, never needed to buy salt.
Now that Laurel had entered his life, he was learning how to take care of a female for the first
