“Maybe… the shamans could learn from you. There are so many herbs, and this naming method works perfectly for organizing them.”
He brushed the topic away smoothly, but unease still lingered in his mind, because Laurel had lost her memories, yet she clearly remembered the names of animals and plants.
If that was the case, why did she not recognize the nursery rhyme etched into every beastman’s very being?
What kind of past was she concealing?
Laurel only thought Sebastian believed her explanation and began chatting freely, jumping from one thought to another.
“By the way, Sebastian, I’m curious. Fenfrosts are supposed to eat meat, right? Then why do you also eat fruit and vegetables, and even… salt?”
Sebastian blinked, then laughed softly. “Silly Laurel, we are beastmen, not wild animals.”
He reached out and pinched her cheek, feeling that this little female looked adorable no matter how he saw her.
She reminded him of a newborn cub, ignorant of the beast world’s rules, eyes bright and filled with curiosity.
That odd sensation made Sebastian suspect she came from somewhere beyond this world.
He then explained calmly, “When we stay in full beast form, males can simply hunt and cat
meat.
“But most of the time, we have to remain in human form.
“In human form, beastmen cat many kinds of food, because we need nutrients from more
sources.
“Females who cannot shapeshift need an even broader diet to stay healthy.
“And there are also weaker beastmen in the tribe. In beast form they cat plants, but once they return to human form, they need meat and salt to recover”

Laurel nodded, thinking it through. A beastman’s human form really worked like a human’s body, eating everything. No wonder they used salt and cooked meals.
A race that could freely change forms truly was remarkable.
They continued wandering. Following the little female’s guidance, Sebastian broke into a nest and brought back a clutch of eggs. He normally never ate the tiny, fishy eggs of feathered beasts, but if the little female liked them, that was fine.
After all, he trusted her incredible cooking without question.
By the river, Laurel gathered many smooth stones, planning to build a stone furnace once they returned.
Then she pointed to a large rock and had Sebastian shape it into a water jar.
Deep in the forest, they came across a fallen ancient tree, completely dry, with dark violet heartwood that was hard as iron and patterned with elegant, winding rings.
“So pretty. This tree looks fancy, doesn’t it? Sebastian, can you cut it into boards?” As she spoke, she picked up a twig and drew the size and thickness of the planks on the ground.
Sebastian nodded. One hand shifted into beast form, and with a few swift slashes of sharp claws, he chopped the trunk into neat blocks, then split them into boards.
Laurel instantly became his biggest admirer and showered him with praise.
“Sebastian, you’re incredible!
“That was so effortless!
“Those claws are unbelievably sharp!
“There’s no beastman more capable than you!”
Soaked in her compliments, Sebastian sank into a blissful mood and used the leftover wood to make basins, buckets, stone pots, plates, and other delicate eating tools.
In his good spirits, he even carved wolf paw patterns onto several pieces, pretty to look at though not very practical.

“Mr. Whitehead brought things back again? Looks interesting…”
“No idea. Maybe he’s trying to make his wife happy?”
“Is that for a stone bed? I heard his cave has no decorations at all.”
Inside the cave, Sebastian built a stove using river mud and smooth stones.
Laurel took charge of cooking.

Dinner consisted of stir fried pork with green peppers, scallion pancakes, boiled corn, and a pot of thick truffle rib soup.
The truffles were so fresh it almost shocked Sebastian, and he nearly cried while eating.
Still, keeping up the manners of a good husband, he continued serving the little female, placing food on her plate and ladling soup for her.
