Chapter 238 The Prisoners of Grimstone

Gillian shot him a look. He was big and rough-looking, and honestly, barely attractive for a beastfolk. Yet he actually thought he had chance to touch her.
“Hmph. I’m not interested in you.”
Her real target was Zerak.
She kept walking slowly and leaned closer to him on purpose. Eventually, Zerak lost his patience. He snapped the whip in his hand.
Crack! Crack!
The sharp sound cut through the air and startled the beastfolk ahead. Several turned around at once.
Zerak pointed at Gillian with an annoyed look.
“Pull your clothes up properly! Move faster! If you keep dragging behind, don’t expect to rest tonight!”
Gillian puffed out her cheeks and stomped her foot. Angry, she pulled her coat back into place and hurried after the group.
The other female beastfolk laughed when they saw she had failed.
“Gillian, do you really think you’re still Finlay’s favorite female? Trying to seduce Zerak so he’ll treat you better? Give it up already. At least keep a little dignity.”
“Seriously. You’re embarrassing all of us.”
The rest kept criticizing her while continuing down the trail.
But Gillian didn’t care. She had heard words like this countless times before. If she took every insult seriously, she would have driven herself crazy long ago.
Still, one particular female caught her attention.
She looked very young, barely an adult. Her face was full of innocence and curiosity. Even in this situation she still smiled brightly while looking around at everything.
Everyone else had mocked Gillian at least once, but this unfamiliar young female hadn’t said a single cruel
word.
“Eva, what are you staring at? What’s so interesting about these trees?”
Gillian rolled her eyes.
Eva smiled when she heard her name.
“Of course they’re interesting! I’ve never even left the city before. And I’ve definitely, never seen trees this tall. Look how huge those trunks are!”

“Hah. Boring. Acting all proper.”
Gillian turned her head sway and stopped talking.
Eva didn’t get upset. She kept looking around excitedly. If not for the vines tightly tied around her wris people might have thought she was out on a camping trip.
High above the forest, Rufus saw everything clearly. The beastfolk leading the group looked strangely familiar, but he couldn’t remember where he had seen him before.
Claire, sitting on his back, let out a soft sound of surprise and pointed downward.
“There are so many Level 2 female beastfolk wandering around the forest. Aren’t they afraid of wild animals finding them?”
Female beastfolk were already precious, especially Level 2 females. Yet they had only brought a small number of guards into the deep forest. Their courage was honestly shocking.
Rufus had excellent eyesight. He quickly corrected her.
“Claire, look closer. Their wrists are tied with Purple Scale Vines. They can’t shift forms. And those beastfolk are driving them forward to stop them from escaping.”
Claire narrowed her eyes for a long moment before nodding.
“You’re right. That’s really strange.”
She was curious, but not curious enough to get involved. After making one quick comment, she urged Rufus to go find Zane.
Not far away, Zane’s white wolf form and the giant panda were moving slowly through the forest. All the babies were packed inside four large fur pouches tied to Marcus’s back, two on each side.
The giant panda waddled with every step, and each sway made the babies squeal excitedly.
“Zane,” Claire called out, “there’s a group of beastfolk ahead. Some really aggressive-looking ones are forcing several Level 2 females to keep moving. They seen to be in a hurry. Should we avoki them?”
Г
Zane’s group was traveling slightly faster. If they continued straight ahead, they would run into the other
group very soon.
The white wolf stopped and looked is the direction Claire pointed.
Marcus suddenly stiffened.
“Claire, how many Level 2 females did you see? Is the leader called Zerak?”
Claire touched her chin and nodded.
“I think that was his name. There were about nine females. Yeah, definitely misc All of them were Level 2
The number stood out to her, especially because every one of them had two beast marks.

“Marcus, do you know something?”
Marcus’s expression darkened,
“If I’m right, those beastfolk are from Grimstone.”
Zane frowned at once. “Are they the ones
Marcus nodded.
Finis
“Yes. Claire, remember? After Grimstone lost to Valorhenge, they were ordered to hand over ten Level 2 females as tribute. Before the Sky Rites, Finlay sent Zerak and his men to escort the nine captured femal to Valorhenge. I didn’t expect we’d run into them here.”
Claire finally understood.
Thinking back carefully, the style of those fur coats really did look exactly like the guards from Grimstor No wonder she and Rufus thought they looked familiar.
She turned toward Zane.
“What do we do now? Should we rescue them?”
No one knew what kind of fate waited for them once they reached Valorhenge.
