Claire urged the white wolf forward. Before Zane could respond, she had already leaped off his back.
Landon stared as she landed lightly beside him despite her impossibly large belly, too stunned to say a word.
Since when are pregnant females this tough?
Zane glanced back at Claire’s anxious expression and nudged her toward Landon with his tail.
“Take care of her.”
He was clearly speaking to Landon.
Landon snapped out of it and nodded quickly. He looked at the white wolf with gratitude.
“I’m counting on you to save Altair!”
Zane didn’t answer, his body shooting forward like a streak of silver lightning.
The ox-headed python thrashed wildly, shaking its head again and again, but it couldn’t pull its horn free from the peregrine falcon’s wing. Its massive body twisted violently across the ground, and the nearby beasts instinctively gave it space.
Marcus had sensed something was wrong. He tried to follow the scent to help Altair, but the beast swarm blocked his path.
He knew the peregrine falcon had taken a fatal blow meant for him.
Altair was on the brink of death, and he couldn’t reach him in time. Guilt rose in his chest.
Soon, he caught the scent of the white wolf racing closer.
A flash of relief crossed the panda’s face.
“I’m leaving him to you!”
With that, he vented his anger on the beasts before him, stomping them down without mercy.
The sound of bones cracking echoed one after another, unsettling to hear.
Taking advantage of the ox-python’s distraction, the white wolf leaped onto the vital point of its

body. He bit down hard, his fangs piercing through the thick scales and driving deep into its flesh.
With the ox-python momentarily unable to move, the white wolf leapt onto its head. With a sharp bite, he snapped off the horn, then grabbed the peregrine falcon and pulled him free from the battlefield.
Sensing that Zane and the peregrine falcon were moving away, Marcus unleashed his full strength.
His massive paws crushed every beast that came near, turning them into pulp as he roared, “What the hell is wrong with you guys? Stay in the forest where you belong! If you won’t, then go to hell-all of you!”
For a moment, an empty space formed around him.
Zane ran back to Claire and gently set the peregrine falcon down.
A broken horn from the ox-python was still lodged in the peregrine falcon’s wing. Even the severed piece was more than six feet long, thicker than Claire’s waist.
Claire and Landon both knelt beside him.
Landon was drenched in sweat. He wanted to shake Altair awake but was afraid of making the injury worse.
All he could do was call out anxiously, “Altair, wake up! Don’t die on me!”
Claire remained calm. She reached out and checked the peregrine falcon’s breathing, then let out a small breath of relief.
“He’s still alive.”
She pointed at the horn and said to Zane, “Pull it out.”
Zane gripped the horn with his jaws and gave a sharp tug. It slid free from the wing.
The peregrine falcon on the ground immediately shifted back into his human form.
Altair’s face was pale as paper. A deep, terrifying wound gaped in his arm, blood pouring out.
Landon grew even more anxious and tried to lift him, but his own injured arms were weak and trembling. In the end, he could only look to Claire for help.
Claire sprinkled a handful of hemostatic powder onto the wound, then tied a band above it to slow the bleeding.

She had only given first aid to keep him from bleeding out. The rest would need a proper healer.
Zane hesitated for a moment.
“Come with me, Claire.”
Claire glanced toward the battlefield. Marcus and Davy were tearing through the beast swarm, breaking it into smaller groups.
