Chapter 341 Aura
Fints
Zane Eleven still looked unconvinced, but he obediently hovered close anyway, staring aythe younglings without blinking.
Zane Six’s size kept him standing a bit further back, head bowed as he counted with care.
“35 in total. Wonder how many are boys and how many are girls.”
They slept so peacefully that Zane Six didn’t dare flip them over, so all he could do was tilt his head and puzzle over it in silence.
The little panda beastling beside him stood too short to see the younglings on the bed and started whining anxiously.
Scarlet gently lifted one in her mouth so the little one could get a proper look.
The rest of the younglings followed suit, nearly every one of them taking a careful peek at the newborns.
“Wish Daddy Rufus’ first clutch were here too!”
A note of gloom crept into Scarlet’s voice. He’d heard Mom and Dad mention Daddy Rufus’ first clutch had already hatched, but Corvin had kept them the whole time, and none of the family had laid eyes on them
yet.
She wondered whether those baby birds resembled the other chicks in the clan.
The little ones were sweet enough to ache over. Barely past six months old, and already pitching in to care for their younger siblings.
Marcus stayed unconscious for most of the afternoon before finally stirring awake.
His fingers twitched, registering something holding his hand.
Marcus wrinkled his nose and sniffed. Claire’s scent!
Claire was asleep by the bedside but was still gripping his right hand.
Relief loosened the tightness in Marcus’ chest. He lifted his left hand, feeling for the white gauze wrapped over his face. Finding it still secured properly, he finally relaxed.
“At least I didn’t let Claire down. Wonder how much longer before this eye heals up…”
Claire’s scent carried a subtle difference. Piecing it together carefully, Marcus realized she’d already given birth.
Claire woke the next instant. Spotting Marcus lifting a hand as though reaching for her head, joy flooded
her face.
“Marcus, you’re awake?”
“Mm. You worked so hard, Claire.”

She must have been sick with worry
Marcus memory drifted back to before he’d blacked our Hed been locked in on the vicious beasts along the ground when a tearing pain suddenly ripped clean across his back
Something from the sky had ambushed him.
Though Marcus knew roughly where the bird was, he had no way to strike something perchedth
“That was a dirty move! It jumped me?”
Elsewhere, Davy had turned mid-flight and spotted a vulture, blood red eyes locked on Marcus, fresh blood still dripping off its talons.
A bloody gash had torn open across Marcus’s back, deep enough to expose stark white bone.
Vultures were scavengers by nature, rarely striking living prey directly, but the beasy outbreak had fully unleashed their savage instincts.
Davy snapped his tail hard, barely registering that the vulture nearby had been knocked instantly to the ground.
Marcus seized the opening and stomped down on it.
The vulture flattened into paste.
But blood kept pouring from Marcus’s wound. He forced himself to hold on until the outbreak finally scattered, then collapsed from blood loss.
Marcus recalled the strange sensation right before he’d gone under and asked at once,
“Claire, has Davy come back?”
Claire had still been riding the high of Marcus waking. At his words, her mood crashed like a plummeting rollercoaster.
She shook her head.
“Not yet. We searched everywhere, couldn’t find him…”
“Right before I passed out, I caught a strange scent near him. Felt like it belonged to a female beastfolk! But I’ve never smelled anything like it in the clan before.”
As Marcus spoke, guilt flickered across his features.
He’d always carried some hostility toward Claire’s other beast mates. Not overwhelming, but it had always nagged at him.
Davy, who’d bonded with her after him, especially grated on his nerves. The two bickered constantly!
But throughout the beast outbreak, Davy had shielded him at every turn.
One in the air, one on the ground. Naturally, Davy faced fewer vicious beasts up in the sky, while Marcus had to fight off the ground based ones and stay alert for anything overhead.

Yet in the end, Davy had ended up far more wounded than Marcus.
Not only had he blocked every flying vicious beast, he’d also touched down periodically to help share
Marcus’s burden.
