The Ultimate Litter: A Beast World System Tale novel Chapter 342

Chapter 342 Trail

Marcus nodded, agreeing obediently.

Learning that Claire had already given birth left him so stunned that he wanted to enter the storage space immediately just to see the younglings.

Claire let him in, then went to find Zane to discuss what came next.

Quentin had pulled Zane aside earlier. Apparently he’d wanted to talk over the sentry arrangements cirung the eagle clan.

By the time Claire arrived, they’d just wrapped up. Zane walked over to support her, tone indulgent.

“Why aren’t you resting at home? Did Marcus wake up?”

Claire nodded. After a quick greeting to Quentin, she pulled Zane aside.

Along the way, she repeated what Marcus had told her.

“I think I might’ve met that female beastfolk once before. She was from the snake clan. She gave off a decent impression, so she’s probably a good person.”

Zane mulled it over, then nodded.

“Claire, your instincts have never steered you wrong. What do we need to do?”

Claire considered it. She had no clue where that snake woman lived. Logically, snake beastfolk tended to run as rogue beasts without fixed dens.

She also couldn’t work out why the woman had taken Davy in the first place. Purely to save someone injured?

That felt unlikely.

She was rogue beastfolk. However kind hearted, she wouldn’t help a stranger without reason, especially not another female’s beast mate.

Claire felt no worry at all that the woman intended to steal Davy away. If that had been her aim, she wouldn’t have vanished so easily back then.

“We still need to go find Davy ourselves. It wouldn’t sit right leaving him in someone else’s care forever.”

As she spoke, Claire wrapped both arms around Zane’s waist, drawing in a deep breath.

So much had happened, one thing after another. She hadn’t caught a single moment to breathe.

Thankfully, Zane stood right here. As long as he stayed by her side, it felt like no matter what came, she’d still find a way through.

Zane shifted into his white wolf form, carrying Claire out toward the edge of the clan.

At the clan’s entrance, Quentin and Landon already stood geared up, ready to move out. A crowd of male beastfolk gathered behind them.

“Quentin, what’s all this?”

The eagle clan had barely survived a beast outbreak, plenty of beastfolk still nursing injuries. Shouldn’t they afl be recovering right now?

Why did they look ready to charge into something dangerous again?

Quentin nodded toward Zane and Claire, then smiled.

“Coming with you to find your beast mate Davy, obviously!”

Landon stepped forward too. The beast skin bandage on his arm had already come off, though a few strips still wrapped the wound to hold it secure.

He waved that arm carelessly, as though it were nothing. “My injury’s mostly healed. Won’t slow me down. Your beast mate went missing fighting off the outbreak. How could any of us just sit here?”

Claire felt genuinely moved. She stepped forward, took both their hands, and said, grateful, “Thank you.”

No words could fully capture what surged through her in that moment.

So kindness really did circle back around.

The eagle clan bore nothing resembling the cold, selfish fox clan. These beastfolk carried warmth and courage in equal measure. They’d truly welcomed her family into the fold.

They gathered to map out a plan, splitting into several groups to search different directions.

Claire went with Zane, bringing no other beastfolk along.

After all. Zane alone matched the strength of all of them combined.

One wolf, one woman, racing toward the forest’s deepest reaches. This ancient forest held towering trees and wild beasts in abundance. Even routine hunts required a group venturing this deep together.

The white wolf bounded several yards at a stride, carrying Claire swiftly through the trees.

“Zane, how do you know it’s this direction?”

Claire hugged the white wolf’s neck. His smooth, glossy fur streamed in the wind, brushing lightly against her cheek.

Scanning their surroundings for any trace of Davy, she asked.

The white wolf never slowed his pace. Running, he answered evenly. “Marcus said Davy was bleeding too. At the spot where he vanished, I caught Davy’s blood scent. It leads this way.”

Understanding dawned on Claire suddenly. She’d nearly forgotten Zane was a wolf. His nose rivaled a dog’s in sharpness.

As long as even the faintest trace of Davy’s scent lingered, Zane could track it down.

Still, the deeper they pushed into the forest, the slower Zane’s steps grew. Eventually he stopped beside a

narrow creek.

“Davy’s scent is gone.”

Zane studied the creek. Though barely six feet across, it had washed away every trace of Davy’s scent completely.
