Leon didn't give her a chance to speak. He pointed right in her face, hurling accusations as if desperate to pin every vile label on her.
"What could she possibly say? The security cameras caught the whole thing, and all these missed calls on my phone are proof! She's nothing but a cold-blooded, ungrateful wretch—"
Slap!
Before he could finish, a sharp slap struck his face without warning.
Leon clutched his cheek, staring at Chloe in absolute shock. His face twisted into an ugly snarl as he raised a fist.
"You dare hit me? I'll kill you!"
The police quickly restrained him, then turned to scold Chloe.
"Use your words! You can't just hit people!"
"He filed a false police report," Chloe said coldly. "I couldn't let you come all this way for nothing."
Inside the ward, Linda, who had supposedly been lying weak and dying in bed, heard the commotion and bounded out. She charged into the hall without even bothering to put on her shoes.
"Leon! Leon!"
Seeing the red mark on his face, her eyes nearly popped out of her head with exaggerated distress as she rushed over and hugged him.
"Are you okay?!"
Leon rubbed his cheek, his hatred practically overflowing. "Chloe actually hit me! She's out of her mind!"
Since they were kids, he had always treated Chloe like a servant at his beck and call.
Her only purpose was to cater to him, serve him, and do what she was told.
So what if she was Mrs. Hayes now? That hierarchy was carved into their bones, and she could never escape it!
"What?!"
Leon lunged forward, grabbing Chloe's arm in a death grip. "You're not going anywhere until you pay up!"
"Don't think I don't know! Even if you divorce Preston, marital assets are split fifty-fifty. You have to hand over every cent of your half to us!"
More and more people were gathering in the corridor, and quite a few had pulled out their phones to record the drama.
Linda simply plopped herself onto the floor, slapping her thighs as she wailed at the top of her lungs.
"Oh, God, my life is so miserable! I worked my fingers to the bone raising this ungrateful girl, and now that she's rich, living in a mansion and wearing designer clothes, she won't even give me a dime for living expenses!"
"I'm sick in the hospital, and she won't even come look at me! I might as well just die right here!"
"Then go ahead and die."
Chloe remained expressionless the entire time, her voice so unnervingly cold it didn't even sound natural.
"Once you're dead, I'll be sure to bring you some funereal scrip."
