"Jenna is still lying in the hospital with severe injuries! Preston has been dragged into the police station time and time again! All of this is her doing!"
Eleonora frowned, stepping protectively in front of Chloe. "Stop spouting nonsense!"
Percival was livid. "Nonsense? Let her tell you herself! She knows exactly what she and her mother have done!"
"Since they got married, her family has milked Preston for at least millions of dollars!"
"I turned a blind eye to all of it, pretending not to notice! But now? After taking so much money, even a dog knows how to wag its tail!"
"But her family of ingrates turned around and called the cops! They're trying to destroy Preston, trying to throw him in jail! How poisonous can a person be? And you still want to protect someone like this?"
"Grandpa!" Preston's voice was bone-chilling. "This has nothing to do with Chloe!"
Eleonora had no idea so much had happened recently. She was shocked, but more than that, she felt a surge of heartache and fear.
"Chloe is a victim too! She can't control the mistakes her mother makes! How can you be so utterly unreasonable?"
She hugged Chloe. "My poor girl, are they giving you trouble again? Why didn't you tell me sooner..."
Percival scoffed. "Isn't she here right now doing just that?"
"Birds of a feather flock together. Watch your back, she's probably here to ask for money for that cousin of hers who took out a loan!"
His oppressive gaze bore into Chloe, his revulsion practically dripping from his words. "Our family must have been cursed for eight lifetimes to be plagued by a jinx like her!"
Eleonora turned pale with rage. Before she could even open her mouth, a deafening crash silenced the room.
Smash!
Chloe slammed her glass down on the table, shattering it into pieces.
Percival erupted. "You dare throw things in my presence?"
In the next second, Chloe flipped the entire dining table over.
Chloe kept her fists clenched, her spine straight as she spoke coldly. "If he's going to spew garbage, he should be prepared to face the consequences!"
"You!! You're absolutely unhinged!" Percival's heart throbbed with anger. His face was ashen as he pointed at Chloe and roared.
"Get out! Tell her to get the hell out right now! I never want to see her face again as long as I live!"
"Tell her and her leech of a family to get lost! The further, the better!"
"Chloe!" Preston's brow furrowed tightly, his eyes filled with complex emotions. "Grandpa is old, you know his temper. You don't have to take everything he says so seriously..."
"He's not my grandfather!"
Chloe retorted coldly, "I have no obligation to put up with any of you! And actually, I should be the one saying it. Please get the hell out of my life! The further, the better!"
With that, she turned and walked away without looking back.
From beginning to end, she didn't spare a single glance at the profound pain and disbelief in Preston's eyes.
