Her pace quickened.
Behind her, someone was trying to catch up.
Chloe looked back and saw it was Eleonora.
The older woman's face was slightly pale, her brows knitted tightly.
Chloe couldn't bring herself to meet her eyes. "I'm sorry, Grandma..."
Her eyes stung, and her chest felt unbearably tight.
She knew Eleonora had spent a long time preparing this meal.
She had originally planned to accompany her grandmother through this last meal.
She had wanted to leave her with a clean, tender memory.
After all, this was the last time.
"Chloe, my sweet girl, that must have scared you, didn't it?"
Eleonora reached out, gently pulling her into an embrace and patting her back. "You didn't do anything wrong. Not at all..."
Chloe couldn't hold back her tears any longer.
"Grandma, I..."
The words of farewell lodged in her throat. She couldn't say them.
Finally, she managed, "I probably won't be able to go abroad with you."
Eleonora held her tightly, remaining silent.
Chloe pulled a voice recorder from her purse.
"Grandma, I prepared this for you."
"I recorded a lot of magazine articles. You can turn it on whenever you want to listen."
Eleonora took it, her eyes slowly welling with tears as she looked at her.
Although Chloe hadn't explicitly said it, Eleonora had already guessed.
"Chloe, never do anything you don't want to do."
"If you don't like it, you don't ever have to come back to Cloudrest Manor..."
Eleonora looked deeply at her. "If I miss you, I'll come visit you. How does that sound?"
Chloe fell silent.
Eleonora understood.
"Preston might look gentle, but he's incredibly stubborn deep down."
His face was completely devoid of color. Rose instinctively stepped aside.
But in the next second, he stopped her.
"Did she leave?"
Rose quickly gathered herself, speaking cautiously. "Yes... she just left."
Preston's expression seemed to darken even more.
She left in such a hurry. She didn't even want her dog.
He thought she cared so much about that dog, but it seemed he was wrong.
Did she just lose interest in everything that quickly?
Seeing him silent, Rose hurried to walk past.
But Preston stopped her again. "What's that in your hand? Did she give that to you?"
"Yes, she asked me to give it to Eleonora."
Preston's brow furrowed sharply.
He held out his hand, his tone leaving no room for argument. "Hand it over. Let me see."
