"This..."
A flash of hesitation crossed Rose's face, but she didn't dare refuse Preston. She handed the envelope over.
Preston took it. As he rubbed his fingers over it, he clearly felt the hard edge of a bank card inside. His frown deepened.
Just as he was about to tear it open, his phone rang urgently.
It was Jenna.
He answered, and a woman's heavy, sobbing voice immediately came through the receiver.
"Preston, please come quickly..."
At the same time, a chaotic commotion erupted from the direction of the manor's main gates. Something had happened.
Preston's frown tightened. He shoved the envelope into his suit's inner pocket, taking long strides toward the entrance.
"Sir..." Rose stood behind him, at a total loss.
"I'll give it to Grandma later."
By the stone steps at the front gates of Cloudrest Manor, Jenna was crouched down, her arms wrapped around herself as she sobbed helplessly.
Two maids stood beside her, comforting her in low, soothing voices.
Not far away, another maid stood holding a leash, struggling to restrain a dog. Her face was pale with panic.
Preston furrowed his brow and walked over. "What's going on?"
The maid holding the leash looked up nervously. "Sir... this, this dog..."
Before she could finish, Jenna heard Preston's voice. She sprang up and threw herself right into his arms.
"Preston, you're finally here. I was terrified..."
Tears streamed down Jenna's radiant complexion. Her short hair was slightly messed up from the wind. An oversized gray hoodie barely covered her thighs, showing off her stunning curves.
Preston's body stiffened slightly. He casually raised a hand and gently pushed her away. "Aren't you supposed to be in the hospital? What are you doing here?"
Jenna's hands grasped at empty air, and she looked even more pitiful.
Under her expectant gaze, Preston took a step toward Yuri.
Then, he leaned down and picked the dog up. "Jenna, don't worry. He doesn't bite."
"If you're scared of dogs, just stay away from him from now on."
"What?" Jenna stood frozen in place, thinking she had misheard.
Preston was already walking away with Yuri in his arms.
"Grandpa is upstairs. Go see him."
Jenna stared at his back, feeling as though her feet were glued to the ground.
A powerful wave of panic and anger twisted in her chest.
Preston had always protected her in the past. If there was anything she didn't like, even a company employee, they would be transferred or fired immediately.
But now, for the sake of a dog, he was telling her to back off.
