The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 353

Looking at Chloe's glistening eyes, Preston regretted his words the very second they left his mouth.

He hated himself for speaking to her that way.

Time and time again, he had genuinely wanted to sit down and communicate with her.

So why did she always have to aim her sharpest thorns at him?

He refused to believe that unresolvable issues could just spring up between them in such a short amount of time.

They had been perfectly fine for so many years...

"Chloe, I'm sorry. That's not what I meant..."

Chloe's voice trembled slightly despite herself.

"Preston, that diary was mine. It has absolutely nothing to do with you."

Preston reached out to pull her into his arms. "I'm sorry, I'm a jerk. I was talking nonsense. Don't take it to heart, alright?"

"Chloe, let's stop saying things we don't mean. Whatever is wrong, let's calm down and communicate properly, okay?"

Chloe pushed him away. "Preston, do you really think there's any point in us communicating anymore?"

Preston looked at her, his tone deadly serious. "Why wouldn't there be? Are you truly willing to throw away years of our relationship? To just sit back and watch this marriage die?"

He leaned in, forcing her to look him in the eyes, softening his voice.

"Chloe, do you really have the heart to abandon me?"

"I don't believe that you don't love me anymore."

"But if this keeps up, I'm going to start believing it. I don't know how much longer I can hold on..."

Preston had incredibly striking eyes.

They were a deep, endless black—smiling when tender, and freezing cold when distant.

Right now, as he looked at Chloe, they held a pleading, almost desperate affection, carrying a cautious hope even he wasn't fully aware of.

"I think I've made myself perfectly clear." Chloe averted her gaze, refusing to look into his eyes.
