Chloe blinked in surprise.
Preston took the vegetable basket from Mr. Lynch with a charming smile.
"Chloe is always thinking of you. Even when she's traveling abroad, she never forgets you."
Mr. Lynch seemed to suddenly remember Preston was still there. "Why are you still hanging around?"
He looked at Chloe, quickly explaining:
"I told him not to come, but he insisted..."
Despite the complaining tone, the old man's expression was incredibly soft.
Chloe had told him they were divorced.
Logically, he shouldn't be associating with Preston anymore.
But this young man was just too helpful, so thoughtful and attentive that it was impossible to turn him away.
Deep down, Mr. Lynch was touched.
He couldn't help but add, "He keeps coming here to drop things off, bringing a whole crew of people. One minute he's helping me plow the fields, the next he's doing chores. I honestly didn't know what to do with him..."
"And a while ago, he insisted on teaching me how to use that robot vacuum so I wouldn't have to bend down to mop anymore. I told him an old guy like me couldn't figure that tech out..."
"But would you believe it? The way he taught me, I actually picked it up!"
Excited, Mr. Lynch practically demonstrated it right there, looking at Chloe with eager anticipation.
"What do you think?"
Preston laughed softly. "Who says you're old? You caught on incredibly fast."
"Right, Chloe?"
Seeing the rare, genuine joy on Mr. Lynch's face, Chloe didn't have the heart to ruin the moment. She forced a smile.
"You're amazing, Mr. Lynch."
The old man absolutely beamed, the deep laugh lines on his face crinkling with happiness.
He picked up his basket of vegetables.
"Go rest up, Chloe. I'm going to start on dinner. I'm making all your favorites..."
"Okay."
Chloe turned her attention to Preston. "Preston, step outside for a minute."
Instead, Preston followed right behind Mr. Lynch. "Let me help you."
