The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 385

"Chloe, don't say things you don't mean just because you're angry. Who else is going to take care of you like I do?"

Preston forced down the surging tide of emotion and reached for her hand, his words spilling out faster now.

"I came here because I wanted to tell you something."

"I know you don't like Jenna. I've transferred her to the branch office. From now on, she will never appear in front of you again..."

Chloe violently slapped his hand away.

Preston froze.

He couldn't comprehend why her eyes were filled with such visceral, deep-seated hatred.

"You don't need to play the martyr, Preston! And you certainly don't need to keep her hidden away like a mistress! The two of you can get married openly and be stuck with each other for the rest of your lives!"

"I don't just dislike her, I despise you! I want both of you out of my sight forever!"

Chloe glared at him, a suffocating wave of frustration crashing over her, making it physically hard to breathe.

"Drop this whole magnanimous, self-sacrificing act. It makes me sick! You’ve always thought I was just some petty, jealous wife who couldn’t handle your precious best friend!"

Preston stared at her, his eyelashes trembling slightly.

He had imagined a hundred different reactions when she heard the news. He had rehearsed this moment over and over in his head.

But he never anticipated this level of absolute, ice-cold rejection.

"Chloe, what exactly do I have to do to satisfy you?"

An immense wave of exhaustion crashed over Preston. He took a deep breath.

"I've been so incredibly patient with you. I tolerated your inappropriate closeness with Quentin. I tolerated you running off to another country without a single word to play assistant for another man..."

"Why can't you offer me even a shred of understanding? I feel like I'm actively trying to fix our problems here."

"A relationship takes two people. You can't just keep running away. If you need something, you have to tell me."

"I honestly have no idea what I'm supposed to do to make you happy."

Chloe glared at him, her fists clenched tightly at her sides.

Preston felt utterly helpless. He just stood there, fully expecting her to slap him across the face.

But Chloe said absolutely nothing. She just spun around, stormed back into the house, and slammed the door shut, throwing the deadbolt with a loud click.
