The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 122

By the time Yulen returned with dinner, Nikita was awake.

To keep her grandmother from worrying, Winona dropped her cold demeanor toward Yulen and forced herself to sound gentle and agreeable. "Yulen, you're so busy with work, yet you're still helping me take care of Grandma. Thank you for everything."

Seeing her finally look at him properly and even show appreciation for his efforts, Yulen couldn't help but smile. "It's no trouble. She's my family too. It's my duty to care for her."

Nikita was delighted to see them getting along so well, and the joy seemed to lessen her physical pain.

After they finished dinner with Nikita, Yulen tentatively asked Winona, "How about we let the nurse stay with Nikita tonight and we go home to rest? We can come back tomorrow evening."

Nikita also urged them to leave. "I'm fine. You two should go home."

Winona smiled. "Alright."

But the moment she stepped out of the hospital room, her smile vanished.

Yulen took her hand while replying to a message with his other hand. Winona tried to pull her hand away, but he only held it tighter.

"It's hard for you to text like this," she said, her voice stayed soft, but there was nothing warm in her eyes.

Yulen's gaze remained fixed on his phone. "I'm not letting go. I just want to walk home holding my wife's hand."

She gave him a scornful look. He was probably texting Tallulah. He could sweet-talk her even while thinking about another woman. The two-faced act was almost impressive.

Once they were in the car, he put his phone down and said, "My mom's birthday is the day after tomorrow. There's a party at the family estate. You should come with me. I'll hire two more professional nurses for Nikita, so she'll be well looked after."

As much as Winona detested the Locke family, for the sake of ensuring Nikita's last days were peaceful, she agreed. "Okay."

She went back to the villa with him.

After they had both showered, he looked at Winona. The sight of her in the soft light made desire flicker through him.

Winona watched him quietly, feeling as if she already knew what he was going to say next.

But he said nothing.

After a long while, they lay in the same bed again, but without any of their former intimacy. A wide gap separated them under the covers.

Winona turned her back to him and slowed her breathing.

Half an hour later, she heard him get out of bed. The door clicked shut softly. A moment later, she heard a car start downstairs.

Winona was surprised that the Locke family had forbidden Tallulah from attending Willow's birthday party, yet had insisted she come.

It wasn't until she arrived at the Locke Villa that she understood why.
