The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 128

"I'm tired tonight," Winona said. "If you still want me to apologize to Ms. Powell, I'll go do it right now. If you think it's unnecessary, then I'm leaving."

When Yulen remained silent, Winona turned and walked away.

Seeing Winona leave, Willow marched over to Yulen, annoyed. "Why did you let her go? She caused all this trouble, and she dares to just walk out?"

"Mom," Yulen said, exasperated, "maybe Ophelia's injury really has nothing to do with Winona."

"Are you saying Ophelia fell on her own? This is the first time they've met. What motive would she have to frame Winona?" Willow clearly didn't believe it. "You're just too lenient with her. Her attitude is getting worse by the day. Keep indulging her, and she’ll start walking all over this family. I'm telling you, you need to go home and discipline her properly. Don't let her get too out of hand."

Yulen didn't want to listen to his mother's nagging any longer and walked out as well.

In the bedroom, Ophelia leaned against a pillow, her face pale, as the Locke family's doctor treated her wound.

Wynne held her hand, her face filled with worry. "Ophelia, it must hurt so much. We should still go to the hospital for a proper check-up later."

Ophelia gritted her teeth against the pain. "It's okay, Mom. It's just a scratch. I don't think Winona did it on purpose. Please tell Mrs. Locke not to blame her."

Seeing her so considerate, Wynne's heart ached even more.

"And here you are, still thinking of others at a time like this."

"You rarely take a liking to someone younger, Mom. I don't want you to grow distant from her over something so small. As long as you're happy, I'll be fine."

Wynne couldn't help but stroke her hair. "Ophelia, you truly are the treasure heaven sent to me."

Ophelia smiled. "I want to be your treasure forever."

The Goddard and Powell families were close, so Ophelia and Stefan were essentially childhood friends. But as the Goddard heir, Stefan's schedule had always been packed with lessons, leaving him no time to play with them.

Back then, the Goddards had favored a match with the Mallory family and had never considered the Powells, especially since Ophelia was only an adopted daughter.

In order to see Stefan more often, she had resorted to spending time with his brother, Evander Goddard. Later, when Stefan and Maeve got engaged, she got engaged to Evander.

It wasn't until Maeve herself ruined that engagement that Ophelia felt she finally had a chance. She had been trying to figure out how to get rid of Evander when he died unexpectedly. On his deathbed, he had even asked Stefan to take care of her. Stefan had agreed.

At the time, she had been overjoyed. Even if he publicly declared he would never marry, he would still have to look after her for the rest of his life. They could never be separated again.

Stefan watched her quietly for a moment, then asked, "Why did you frame Winona?"
