The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 135

When Winona woke up, she was startled to find a strange man sleeping beside her. Her heart leaped into her throat. On pure instinct, she kicked him off the bed, wrapped the blanket tightly around herself, and fumbled for something to use as a weapon.

A muffled groan came from the floor. The man slowly got to his feet.

When she saw his handsome, sharp face, Winona froze. It was Stefan.

Her rosy lips parted, and the angry words she was about to shout died on her tongue.

Stefan rubbed his temples and looked at her, seemingly at a loss. “Ms. Jowett, you were the one holding onto me all night.”

Vague memories of clutching his arm surfaced, and a hot blush crept up her neck. “I’m sorry, Mr. Goddard,” she stammered.

Stefan didn’t say anything more. He placed the medicine box on the table beside her. “Remember to take another dose.”

Then, he walked into the bathroom, his steps seeming a bit unsteady.

Watching him go, Winona felt a pang of worry. She had kicked him pretty hard. What if he was injured?

The more she thought about it, the more guilty she felt, wishing she could bury herself under the covers. Then, the memory of Lachlan’s scheme sent a fresh wave of anger through her. She got out of bed, straightened her clothes, and took the medicine with the water left in the cup.

When Stefan came out of the bathroom, he tossed his jacket to her. “Ms. Jowett, I’ll take you home.”

Winona still felt awkward seeing him. She nodded, unable to meet his gaze.

Stefan turned and walked out first. Winona put on his jacket and followed half a meter behind him.

At the hotel’s front desk, Yulen was holding Tallulah’s hand, his tone stern. “Didn’t I tell you to rest at home? Why are you out drinking with your friends again?”

Tallulah bit her lip, her voice weak. “My stomach hurts.”

Yulen immediately scooped her into his arms and headed for the hospital.

The moment he left, Winona glanced back and saw Yulen carrying Tallulah away. She paused, surprised that Yulen had also been at this hotel last night. The thought that she had nearly been assaulted by Lachlan while Yulen was here dallying with Tallulah drew a bitter, ironic smile from her lips.

Back at her apartment building, Winona thanked Stefan. “Thank you for last night, Mr. Goddard.”

Thanks to him, Lachlan hadn't succeeded.

Stefan just grunted in acknowledgment, then added, “I’ll warn Lachlan. He won’t dare to bother you again.”

Winona was even more grateful that he was willing to step in. She knew that for someone of her standing, trying to get revenge on a wealthy heir like Lachlan was an impossible fight.
