The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 137

It felt like she understood his hidden meaning. Winona’s face flushed so red it felt like it was on fire.

Stefan sat up, the top two buttons of his pajama shirt undone, revealing a hint of lean muscle. He had a great physique—tall and well-proportioned, with muscle that was defined but not overly bulky. Winona glanced at him, then quickly looked away, flustered.

He seemed oblivious to his open shirt, his voice low. “Do you know how to make spaghetti, Ms. Jowett?”

Winona nodded. “I do.”

He smiled. “I’m a bit hungry. I’d appreciate it if you could.”

She went to the kitchen, found some ingredients in the fridge, and started cooking.

When the spaghetti were ready, she brought a bowl into the bedroom. Stefan asked, “There’s only one bowl. Aren’t you eating?”

Winona shook her head. “I’m not hungry. I’ll wash the dishes after you’re done and then head out.”

“Eat with me,” he said with a soft smile.

There were still some spaghetti left, so she went back to the kitchen, got a small plate for herself, and returned to sit on the sofa by the bed, eating with him. She ate gracefully, her red lips looking incredibly tempting.

Stefan glanced at her, and the heat he had just managed to suppress began to rise again.

After they finished, she cleared the dishes, washed them, and came back to say goodbye. “It’s getting late, Mr. Goddard. I should go.”

“I’ll have my driver take you.”

“There’s no need. I can just get a cab.”

“Ms. Jowett,” he said, his tone taking on a more forceful edge, “if you won’t let my driver take you, then I won’t feel comfortable having you visit again.”

She hadn’t exactly planned on visiting again. It wasn’t proper for them to get too close, especially given his seemingly ambiguous relationship with Ophelia. She had no desire to be a third wheel. However, now that he’d put it that way, it would be rude not to visit again if he was unwell. In the end, she had to agree to let his driver take her home.

Ophelia glared at her brother. “Next time you want to make a move on Winona, be smart about it and don’t let Stefan find out. You don’t even have the brains for that, yet you still dream of inheriting Powell Group?”

Being lectured by his stepsister stung Lachlan’s pride. “You should worry about yourself first. Your man is about to get away, and you’re here wasting time lecturing me.”

“That’s none of your business. Stefan will be mine. No one can take him from me.”

Back at the office, Winona overheard Eloise and Wren making snide remarks again.

“Nolan said the office surveillance is back online. The disgusting things certain people have done will soon be exposed for everyone to see.”

“Good. Let’s see how she keeps up her act then.”

Hearing their conversation, Winona remained perfectly calm. She had a clear conscience and nothing to fear.
