The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 143

When Yulen opened his eyes, he found Winona sitting by his bedside. "Winona…" he murmured.

Seeing that he could speak, Winona let out a breath of relief. Thankfully, the cabinet wasn't too heavy. If it had been, she worried he might have actually died, and the last thing she wanted was to be indebted to him.

Yulen's mind was still reeling from the image that had flashed before he passed out. He grabbed Winona's hand, his voice urgent. "Winona, do you remember the fire four years ago?"

Winona was baffled by the sudden question. Four years ago, during that fire, she had fainted first. After a firefighter carried her out, she had regained consciousness and, realizing Yulen was still inside, had rushed back in to save him without a second thought. They were husband and wife, and she had loved him dearly then. Saving him felt like the most natural thing in the world.

After the accident, he had spent a month in the hospital. When he woke up, he never mentioned the fire. She had assumed the trauma was too much for him, so she never brought it up either.

"I remember. Why?"

"When did you wake up?" Yulen pressed.

"In the hospital," Winona answered dismissively. He probably had no idea she'd gone back for him, and she had no desire to tell him now. The memory held no meaning anymore.

Her answer confirmed Yulen's suspicions. He must have been imagining things. The one who saved him was Tallulah, not Winona. If she had been unconscious until she reached the hospital, how could she possibly have rescued him?

Once Yulen's assistant arrived, Winona saw no reason to stay and left the hospital room. When she got home, Rhea was waiting for her with takeout.

Hearing that Yulen had been injured and needed stitches, Rhea's face lit up with a grin. "He deserved it! Serves him right for all the rotten things he's done!"

As Winona ate the food Rhea had brought, a thought occurred to her. "It was strange, though. Today, Yulen asked me about the fire from four years ago. He's never mentioned it before. I don't know what's gotten into him."
