"You were drunk last night," Stefan said. "Does your head hurt?"
Winona hid her face. "No, it doesn't hurt," she mumbled.
Sensing her embarrassment, Stefan changed the subject. "Hayes is having a birthday party tonight. Would you like to go together?"
Hayes had helped Helena win her lawsuit, so it felt right to go and thank him. "Okay, but I haven't gotten him a gift yet."
"You don't need to. Just showing up to celebrate with him is enough."
The elevator doors opened on the first basement level. Winona hadn't planned on driving, so she was about to wait for him to leave before selecting her floor. But Stefan said, "I'll ride with you to the office. I have some project questions for you anyway."
Since it was about work, Winona didn't refuse and followed him to his car.
When they reached the company's underground garage, Winona glanced around to make sure no one was there before cautiously getting out of the car.
"Ms. Jowett," Stefan called out suddenly.
Winona turned back, a little nervous.
Stefan smiled. "Don't forget about tonight. Wait for me here after work."
Winona's heart began to race again. She quickly scanned the area, nodded, and hurried toward the elevator lobby.
At her desk, Corin handed her a coffee. "Winona, thanks for helping me revise that data yesterday. This is for you."
"Thank you."
