“You’re joining our project too?” Winona asked him.

Julian nodded. “I am. I look forward to working with you.”

At noon, the two of them went to the employee cafeteria for lunch. When Tallulah and Eloise arrived and saw them chatting so intimately, they both sneered.

*Winona really knows how to get around,* Tallulah thought. She pulled out her phone, snapped a picture of Winona and Julian enjoying their conversation, and sent it to Yulen.

“Yulen, Winona is really popular at the Goddard Group. I heard that Mr. Hartley has been pursuing her lately.”

Yulen, who was on a business trip in Solace City, frowned when he saw the photo. He had noticed Julian’s interest in Winona at the dinner party before, but he never thought Julian would actually abandon his management duties at his own company just to chase her at the Goddard Group. A knot of frustration tightened in his chest.

“Buy me a plane ticket back to Riverton,” he ordered his assistant.

“Mr. Locke, you have another important meeting scheduled,” the assistant reminded him, confused.

“Let the VP handle it.” He grabbed his jacket and prepared to leave the office.

The assistant sighed. “Very well, Mr. Locke.”

That evening, Winona went to the hospital to stay with Nikita. Helena was also there. “Winona,” she asked, “I have a training session tomorrow. Could you go to the parent-teacher conference at the school for me?”

Winona knew Helena had already taken a lot of time off for Nikita and wouldn't ask unless it was absolutely necessary, so she agreed. “Of course.”

The next afternoon, she took leave from work and went to Greta’s school. She found Greta's classroom and walked in, only to see Julian.

“What are you doing here?” Winona asked, surprised that he had also taken time off for a parent-teacher conference.

“My sister goes to school here, so I’m here for the meeting,” Julian explained. “What about you?”

“I’m here for my cousin, Greta. I can’t believe they’re in the same class. What a coincidence.”
