Mr. Charlton looked completely baffled. He opened his mouth to correct Sylvan, but his cell phone suddenly rang. Throwing an apologetic glance, he stepped aside to take the call.
Camille and Winona remained silent, neither of them making any move to correct the assumption.
In Winona's mind, it was purely transactional. Since she was being heavily compensated by Camille to act as a ghostwriter, she had no intention of claiming public credit for the project.
Soaking up Sylvan's praise, Tallulah nodded shamelessly. "Yes, I've been heavily focused on the Scully Group project for the past two days. If any issues pop up, I make sure to resolve them immediately."
Rolling her eyes internally, Camille turned to Sylvan. "Mr. Scully, are you free to join us for lunch?"
"I'd love to," Sylvan agreed.
He glanced at Winona standing next to Camille, his eyes tinged with disdain.
Camille noticed Sylvan's obvious distaste for Winona. Knowing that Winona despised corporate schmoozing anyway, she turned to her and said softly, "You can head home first."
Winona nodded and quickly left the Scully Group building.
Camille, Sylvan, Tallulah, and Mr. Charlton headed to a high-end restaurant for lunch.
Since Sylvan spent the entire meal showering Tallulah with compliments, Mr. Charlton felt it wasn't his place to contradict his boss. He kept his mouth shut and focused on his food.
After lunch, Camille said her goodbyes to Sylvan and Mr. Charlton, walked out of the private dining room, and slid into her waiting town car.
Tallulah hurried after her, leaning into the window with an expectant look. "Camille, since you're back, does that mean Yulen is back too?"
Camille looked at her coldly. "No, he's not. I flew back early the second I heard about the disaster at Scully Group."
"Oh." Tallulah looked visibly disappointed.
Seeing that Tallulah still lacked even an ounce of self-awareness, Camille gritted her teeth. "From now on, keep your hands off the Scully Group project. If you have questions, run them by Winona. Stop creating messes for me to clean up."
Tallulah gasped, deeply offended. "Why? I'm the Director of R&D for Locke Group! Why are you always taking Winona's side, Camille?"
Camille let out a harsh laugh. "Do you honestly not realize the limits of your own abilities? If I hadn't paid Winona under the table to act as your ghostwriter, do you think you ever would have secured this project? You got the credit, so just shut your mouth and enjoy the benefits. Stop embarrassing yourself in front of Scully Group, before you make Locke Group the laughingstock of the entire industry!"
Tears of humiliation welled up in Tallulah's eyes as she was viciously dressed down by Camille.
She genuinely believed she was just as capable as Winona, but why wouldn't Camille believe in her?
It's all Winona's fault, she fumed silently. She's always working against me!
