The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 217

Winona completely ignored her, turning her attention to the staff member. "I do want the pendant. However, I only have one million in available funds right now. Could I pay the remaining balance a little later?"

The staff member looked uncomfortable.

"I'm sorry, miss, but that's against auction protocol."

Tallulah let out a sharp, mocking laugh. "Winona, if you can't afford it, just give up. They don't do IOU's here."

Winona bit her lip, debating whether she should just walk away.

Suddenly, Wynne stepped forward. With a warm smile, she gently took Winona's hand. "I'll cover it for you."

Winona looked at her in shock, quickly shaking her head. "No, please, you don't have to. I'll just leave it."

Wynne patted her hand affectionately. She pulled a sleek black card from her purse and handed it to the staff member. "Put the entire amount on my card."

Winona hurriedly pulled out her own debit card. "Let me pay the one million I have, and I'll treat the remaining hundred thousand as a loan from you."

Wynne shook her head with a fond sigh. "Oh, sweetheart, don't be so formal with me."

Watching Wynne step in to rescue Winona made Tallulah seethe with irritation.

Still, the thought of Winona blowing a million dollars on a broken piece of old rock was enough to make her smirk again.

Once the transaction was complete and Winona had the jade, she looked at Wynne with deep sincerity. "Wynne, thank you so much. I promise I'll transfer the remaining hundred thousand to you in a few days."

Wynne smiled warmly. "There's no rush. I'm hardly hurting for cash."

Sylvan, who had been watching from afar, walked over. Seeing Wynne happily paying for Winona only deepened his disgust for the younger woman.

She really was an expert at scamming people out of their money. He couldn't stand by and watch Wynne fall into her trap.

He stepped forward. "Wynne, I—"

Before he could even finish his sentence, Wynne grabbed Winona's hand and walked away, acting as if his mere presence was polluting the air she breathed.

Seeing that she still harbored so much resentment toward him, Sylvan let out a heavy sigh.

Tallulah, unable to contain her curiosity, asked, "Mr. Scully, do you know Mrs. Powell?"

Sylvan's eyes filled with melancholy as he looked back on the past. "There were some terrible misunderstandings between us years ago. She blamed me, resented me, and eventually married someone else. But I've never given up. I'm hoping we can find our way back to each other and rekindle what we had."
