Seeing the man, she inexplicably felt a sense of security.
After Hayes Yarwood exchanged a few words with the police officers beside Stefan, Winona and Rhea were allowed to leave the station.
Seeing that Stefan was taking care of Winona, Rhea said to her, "I'm going to head out first. I'll come check on you tomorrow."
Winona nodded.
Once in the car, Stefan frowned when he saw the traces of blood at the corner of her mouth and on her collar. He grabbed a tissue and handed it to her.
Then he told the driver, "To the hospital."
At the hospital, Winona had her bleeding stopped and got X-rays taken. Only after confirming there were no other injuries did she leave with Stefan.
Back home, Winona thought Stefan would ask about what had happened today, but he didn't ask a single question.
He appeared completely calm.
"Get a good rest and don't think about anything."
She nodded.
Stefan glanced at her again and asked, "Do you need me to stay with you?"
She shook her head. "No, I'm okay."
Only after she went inside did Stefan return to his own place.
He made a call to Hayes.
"How is it? Have you figured everything out?"
Hayes sounded furious. "Lachlan is total scum. He actually staked out that hotel in the suburbs, intending to assault Ms. Jowett. He covered his tracks perfectly—the security footage was wiped, and the hotel owner is playing dumb, insisting he doesn't know anything. This case is tricky. Since Ms. Jowett wasn't physically assaulted in the end, it's hard to gather concrete evidence."
Stefan's expression turned ice-cold. "Go tell Lachlan that if he doesn't want to plead guilty, I don't mind using other methods to make him pay."
It had been a long time since Hayes had heard him speak in that tone, and he couldn't help but shiver.
He remembered what happened seven years ago: Evander Goddard was murdered in a staged car crash, and Roxana Goddard was kidnapped, left half-dead.
Stefan remained silent.
He hung up the phone, his thumb lightly brushing against his watch, his face devoid of any readable emotion.

Winona lay in bed, mentally exhausted.
Every time she closed her eyes, Lachlan's filthy face flashed in her mind.
Unable to sleep, she got up, took a melatonin gummy, and lay back down.
This time, she finally drifted off into a deep sleep.
The next morning, the alarm went off three times before she slowly opened her eyes.
After getting out of bed and washing up, she was just about to order some breakfast delivery.
